    I have 3 artists now in my biggest family. One of them is shy. She mostly paints in grey-ish light pastel tones. The second one is a Genius. His paintings are somewhat abstrakte abstract most of the time. And what flashed me the most!! I never had a painter who was neurotic and overemotional at the same time. His paintings are always in bright colours with unclean lines and mostly with Black backrounds. All of this looks so unique and special I can't put into words how much fun I have just watching These three painters paint.

      that’s so cool! i truly love how they made it so traits can affect a sim’s paintings… such an amazing detail! 🎨

    I LOVE having my sims at least one negative trait! They add so much to the gameplay, the challenge, the drama and see how they unfold. I cannot imagine playing with perfect sims anymore.

    The comment about emptying a sims inventory because of lag gave me flashbacks 😮. Once, when I was a teenager (and still avidly playing the sims 3, before now,) I did a remake of my favorite original character.
    We had gotten a new computer so I started fresh! She was very World Adventures focused (it’s my absolute favorite pack) and this time I built her a (very square) house with a nectary cellar in the basement and a *giant* garden. Over a very short period of time I started having this HORRID lag, but only when controlling her!
    I wasn’t very good at video game research or troubleshooting back then and so my dad helped me try a whole bunch of stuff, reset things (I lost other save files, but not hers,) and over time I eventually gave up!
    “I’m gonna have to remake her and start over!” But I loaded up the game one more time, a last-ditch effort to see if I could figure out why her husband was totally NOT lagging but she was ticking 1 frame per second…
    And then I found it. Nigh on almost 1000 pomegranates, in her inventory. Her garden was enormous and her nectar making kept up pretty well but I guess I hadn’t used that specific fruit as much as the others… and over time they accumulated to such high numbers that her person was LITERALLY weighed down. With somewhere near *999* pieces of fruit.
    I moved them into a chest, and she was free!!! Finally! Saves and progress lost. But we did it. We found the culprits!!
    I will *never* forget to check and empty my inventory again… 😅😅😅

    Another way to get invested in your legacy family is to befriend other households, knowing their back stories, and learning more about their legacies as well. Not only does sims in your town feels like real people and not just some rando, it incentives me to take my sims outside instead of focusing on my home lot all the time to see how the townies genes are passed down through generations (for example one the frio’s grandchild still resembles connor) and learning who marries who opens up room for juicy drama (especially if sims from rival households like the altos & landgraabs gets married). Although knowing too much about the families in the town can be quite disturbing since sims 3 is stupid when it comes to recognizing extended families & you know about the incest babies😅 (i always deleted them).

    sims 3 wins all other games for me because of open world collecting. ever since i've played it for the first time as a kid and discovered there are rocks lying bugs flying special fish swimming around etc i was possessed with completionism? of sorts? the urge to pick up everything that comes into sight and looking around the town with camera for new collectibles, sorting and displaying them just brings me so much silly joy :D
    in my current legacy (inspired to start by you actually) i have a couple of artistic girlfriends whose goals were to get married and found an art gallery and now i'm thinking of making a nature museum as well to display all my treasures

    What got me playing the Sims 3 longer than I ever thought I would was the relativity mod set to half speed. It got me spending more time looking around and moving the camera in to see things in more detail. The university life expansion is great for this kind of gameplay, because you can spend just a little more time sitting at a coffee shop with an overpriced pastry and coffee and -playing games- studying, to make up for the lack of breakfast and sleep. Sometimes, random sims would even sit opposite her and I'd get them to know each other. It was that perfectly cozy feeling Sims 3 can just be so full of.
    (plus the no social groups mod)

    What makes Sims 3 stand out from any other Sims game is how tools like cfe, create a style, moveobjects, not snapping to grids, basements, pools etc. All feel like a long-term minigame in themselves. In the Sims 4 you're given 80 different window colours but no option for 'peeling paint' or 'warning stripes'. In the Sims 2 and 1 you don't really care because there's not enough options to care in the first place. But Sims 3 hits this sweet spot where building an awesome L-shaped staircase with a tiny bathroom/laundry room underneath gives you this satisfying feeling whenever your Sim sucessfully uses it. Making a spa with a giant pool in the center, balconies on the second floor, hanging plants under the frieze places alternating with random rotations? Once it's all done, you make it a public lot, and 5 hours later when you've forgotten about it, you take your sim for a visit, and seeing all the other Sims get hungry and order food at the cafe, get angry because all the mud baths are occupied, and of course taking the camera to look out the window of an unoccupied sitting area to the sounds of nature and trees as far as the eye can see? It's this feeling of creative satisfaction that you wish wish everyone could experience.
    I think that's the longest run-on sentence I've ever written

  • @jesseMadoo

    I've been simming since 2012. I started in Sunset Valley, ported everyone to Bridgeport for a while when I got the Nightlife expansion (dozens of sims), but ported everyone back to Sunset Valley (well over a hundred sims) because Bridgeport was buggy. I've never started a new game, which means I have descendants of the very first sims I created. Some of the original family names are still around: Sedgwick, Largo, Santos, Haddock. Lots of family names have disappeared. My Sunset Valley is fairly urbanized with everything I've added: high rise apartments, performing arts center, 3 art galleries, a sculpture garden (with sculptures of some of my favorite sims) a White House, a movie studio with an alien planet set with a rocket and a huge green screen for special effects, a dance club, and a pool party club on the beach. I'm on week 1,054!
    PS: My sim clone, or Mini Me, has been married 256 times, so far, and all the brides' tombstones are in a special graveyard just for them. And I have couples wedding pics for every one, taken in the spring fair photo booth. I have one set up in Bridal Memories Park for year-round picture-taking, right next door to my Spanish villa. And for the most recent 100 or so, I have large size wedding pics in various poses, taken by a sim with level 10 photo skills and a nice camera. These are in a gallery I built on the ground floor of one of my high rise apartments. I had to add a basement level when I ran out of space

      @jesseMadoo Před rokem +3

      @@evelinruppel2175 It's a constant struggle. Right now I having a spate of good ol' error code 12s. I use a lot of Nraas mods, I clean my save game frequently, and before I save I go into edit town mode, and move every household out and then right back in again. This seems to somehow reset everyone, even more so than the MC town object reset or resetsim *. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to do it, which better than having to start from my last save game. Having problems lately. I used to be able to play 3 sim days before saving, but now I have to do it "daily". Also, I put my entire "The Sims 3” folder (the documents one, not the programs one) into RAM with Ramdisk. That seems to help performance a little. The LazyDuchess Smooth Patch doesn't work for me, but this is almost as good.

      I just restarted a legacy family . It was the 2ncd generation of 2 sisters , one sister had 2 kids and the other died with none , both boys went to college and got degrees , the second generation was with Shaad jr who was a woman manipulator . He has 9 kids , and most are with other women he’s had 2 wives , one was murdered by his second wife . Leaving his 2 oldest kids with just one parent . And now they live in aurora skys where his oldest TEENAGE son is carrying on the legacy . But he has twins with his girlfriend they are both teens and a little broke but they left their parents to be together and take care of their kids . But before I moved them in together they each had one of their kids . So their babies are estranged to one parent while being best friends with the one they stayed with 😭

    Thank you for this video ❤ I'm a bit of a control freak so when it comes to the sims, i noticed i usually drop my games whenever i add more than 2 sims to my family and it gets tiresome really quickly when i have this need to pause every 10 seconds to make sure all of my sims do exactly what i order them to do xD but i also notice and appreciate that slowly getting out of your comfort zone and in my case, letting loose to let sims sometimes do whatever they want will slowly bring out new enjoyment i can get out of my games :D I did the same when i was younger and was addicted to cheating up the money and motives, but at a certain point i decided not to and now i find it super enjoyable playing from the scratch and saving up every little money my sims make etc :) hope someone might relate and could take this little word of advice from me as well

    • @elixtirr2611
      @elixtirr2611 Před rokem +1

      There are a lot of houses you can find on the Sims 3 Exchange (yes, that old thing) that do not have any custom content. You can even filter the results based off what packs you have in your game. I have never been much of a builder myself either, more of a decorator. There are so many talented people who do build, though. My advice would be to always personalize the builds you download, if you can. In my experience, it makes the Sims 3 that much more enjoyable, and you begin to develop a stronger connection with your sims, your house, and your game overall. The Sims 3 is a fun game, but it can be an amazingly entertaining experience when you push yourself a little outside of your comfort zone and try things you have never tried before. You'll know you have that attachment to your sims when you realize you have been playing the same family for 4 hours straight in one session and you haven't checked the clock once lol.

      You sound just like me when I play. I always end up playing with no more than two sims (usually an adult with a toddler or child) bc of the same thing you said…pausing every few seconds to make sure they’re doing what I want them to do. I always get bored eventually and just stop playing. I recently started up a new game and I’m determined to try new things this time.

    • @rosemangofairy

      I had the same problem as you! Had to pause every second or so, so that the game became rushed and not relaxing at all. It felt like real life micromanagement 😅.
      I decided to use the nraas Relativity mod to slow down the time, and it was a real gamechanger for me. I don't know about anyone else, but I never had to pause the time anymore since they had soo much time during the day lols. You can actually customise how fast or slow the time goes. I had mine super slow. My sims actually had time to do a morning run/swim, do some massive gardening (which would have taken the whole day before), clean the whole house, and if you're not lazy you could pretty much plan a party every night 😂.
      My Sim was a painter and before she could only complete 1 large painting on a good day, and now she can finish 3. I also have like 6 sims + 2 cats. It's definitely not as overwhelming before, and I was actually so confused as to what to do I had to slightly speed my game up. But yeah it's so much more fun and fulfilling now 😊💛.

    Simler90 is good is fixes most issues with ea story progression and also fixes most bugs it finds in core files. It doesn’t fix any gameplaydata bugs though iirc since simler only want to touch one file IIRC to reduce conflicts but gives recommendations when they find issues in other files and usually the comment section quickly makes a mod for those files so its not an issue.

    Thanks for these tips! I am playing the 6th generation of a lepacy family I started around November of last year. My game has definitely stuttered more than a few times, especially when it comes to save files. Without mods or any awareness of save file corruption, you can easily, and I mean easily, lose your sims family forever. I am not sure if this is a feature of Overwatch or ErrorTrap, but my sims folder makes backups of each of my sims family files every time I save and exit the game. The backup is simply the same family but from one in-game day before you saved and quit the game. It has saved my ass on numerous occasions, particularly in the beginning stages of the legacy, when I moved around to different worlds using NRaas Traveler. I am still trying to figure out ways to make the game more exciting for myself, and coincidentally, I am also stuck at home because I'm sick lmao. I am not sure if it is COVID, but it is definitely some kind of flu or cold-like virus. I have been thinking a lot about ways to make my lepacy more fun for myself, so this video came at the exact right time! Here's to the Sims and good healing!

    Can't particularly recall if it was mentioned, but a tip I saw years ago and that I always use is always using "Save As", instead of using just "Save", because that way if you always use save as, the game is forced to create new files everytime instead of having to save upon the same ones everytime. This coupled with Save Cleaner kept my game Error 12 free for my 7 gen legacy family, never had it once.
    Also don't be like me and choose a small to mediums world without a bunch of routing issues. I was dumb and choee Isla Paradiso because I love Isla Paradiso however in the long run it made my game quite laggy without mentioning the constant routing issues I had. I had to say goodbye to that 7 gen save for now, even though I still have the files for them. It's simply too laggy.

    One of my biggest problems in the sims and something I'm trying to rectify with my current legacy is having one child per generation. It's something I've always done and it's probably why I find the game quite boring. I'm playing ts3 for the first time though I don't have many packs (pets, generations and seasons) I've just started gen 3 and I really want them to have multiple children. With few packs I definetely find I don't have a lot to do with my sims other than focusing on their careers. I do randomise all traits though which has been fun I used to always just pick the "good" traits.

    I had started a family and I was so invested in them had plans for each of them and an opportunity came up a free vacation for the parents ….girl only one of my sims came back I was devastated I tried to fix it and go back to an earlier save and ruinnnnned my game had to delete the family and start a new one I MOURNED. I guess this opportunity has is like notorious and modders can’t even fix it so yeah if you get the parents free vacation opportunity do not do it!!!

      I have never heard of that happening before omg. I am so sorry you lost your sims family! Honestly, I don't send my sims to private school or on the free vacation very often cause the fact that their portrait panel is greyed out and they are unplayable freaks me out. Also, as someone who has a 6 generation lepacy going, my game has choked several times. For whatever reason, the errors build up and may eventually render a save file completely corrupt. It's scary stuff! Fortunately, I always had backup files, so I just reverted to them. The most loss I ever had was maybe one or two in-game days. The game really doesn't like it when you save and quit on the same save file over and over again, so it is best to make a new save file every time you load up the family and quit the game. It is a little tedious, but I read it is the most effective way to prevent save file corruption and losing your sims family.

    I haven’t seen many people review the Simler90 mod. I know it has compatibility issues with nraas so I’ve never tried it.

    • @KrejziCat
      @KrejziCat Před rokem +2

      I play with Simler90's mod and some nraas ones so i can tell you! Simler90's one obviously conflicts with nraas StoryProgression, i also know for a fact it conflicts with nraas GoHere, Traffic, Traveller, probably Hybrid, and might conflict with Overwatch if settings in the tuning file of Simler90's mod aren't adjusted accordingly (you're suppose to adjust them with a program called S3PE). Simler90's most likely doesn't conflict with MasterController, ErrorTrap, Saver and Register (probably PortraitPanel as well, but i never played with that one), that's what i play with + Overwatch with adjusted tunings in Simler90's and i didn't really encounter any unusual errors :) That being said, Simler90's mod is constantly getting new updates to this day and so, some future updates might cause the mod to start conflicting with more nraas mods, we get listed all the changes done to the mod so it's essentialy up to us to figure out what might conflict with what ^^

    sims 3 forever. My favorite mods are so old they break my game. Your house dwindled down because of the game story progression is terrible. I turn off EA story progression because it will kill sims off like crazy. Your family moves out and one of them dies for not eating a sandwich!
