      My model had the 4050 with 16 GB. The performance was not good, especially on battery life. Everything chugged. Frame time consistency when gaming was bad always. And then I had audio problems - crackling and popping - that weren't fixed with Windows and drivers resets. I returned it and got a 16" MBP. The two positive standouts were the trackpad and keyboard - the best I've ever used and even better than those on my Macbook.

      I have it, it's great except the response time ruins it all... Such a shame that they cheaped out so much on the screen for such an expensive device. It'll be sent back tmrw and I'll be in the market for a laptop that doesn't have ghosting when I browse the web or scroll down in vs code.. I guess I'll just get an iPad pro to draw on :(

    I think the Surface line is a trendsetter, showing other Windows laptop manufacturers what a premium laptop should look like. I say that with bias because I had two Surface laptops in the past, and they were excellent devices.

  • @___Vortex___
    @___Vortex___ Před 10 měsíci +96

    I wouldn't really compare this directly to a Macbook Pro. My opinion is that it takes the place of the popular Macbook Pro + IPad combo.
    As an engineering student I see alot of my peers rocking expensive macbook pros + having an ipad for taking notes + having their gaming desktop/laptop at home. This is essentially all of those in one package.
    I'm currently still rocking the surfacebook 2 and it's a love hate relationship because they're utterly terrible in terms of repairability/upgradability, but also amazing in terms of flexibility.

    • @delta0307
      @delta0307 Před 10 měsíci +13

      the problem is battery life. there's a reason you're using ipad and peers have macbook pros. You'd probably get 6hours at best on this thing. imagine lugging a charger around and always constantly looking for an outlet in school. it's questionable flexibility if you can't finish your work remotely and you're always tied to an outlet

    • @___Vortex___
      @___Vortex___ Před 10 měsíci +5

      @@delta0307You make a valid point. Though most people I know have 4 hours maximum of class/labs/tutorials with some days being lighter. So 6 hours is honestly plenty, although I do agree it should be better.
      You can also just get a decent USB-C charger and use the same one for your phone, laptop, and headphones, so I always have that charger with me, and carry nothing else. Only need it if Im sticking around for an evening study session.
      Where you are right though is that once the manufacturers warranty is out you're pretty much shit out of luck when it comes to the high end surface devices. They're very niche so there aren't alot of parts put there, repair shops don't want to touch them, repair instructions are scarce. My surface is 5 years old, and I can't replace the battery that now has about 60% of its original capacity, my brother has a macbook pro thats the same age, battery died completely, but theres no issue finding replacement parts. So because of that, even though battery life isn't initially a problem, it eventually will be no matter what you do.

So both my mac and my xiaomi phone has superb batt life that'll last me a day. I guess depends case to case for each person but trust me, the freedom and the joy of not having to worry far more outweighs the extra flexibility that those 2in1 offers. I came from a thinkpad x1 2in1 and I really had a tough time with it

      @@___Vortex___ This is always the issue with this kind of review: Comparing a Microsoft Surface device with another machine purely based on specs. I´m still waiting for Apple to be actually innovative and release a 2-in-1. They won´t, for the exact reason you mentioned: They want people to buy MacBooks AND iPads.
      That said, Microsoft has missed out on making the surface line up something really great so far. The Surface Studio would´ve been a killer, had it not been so totally crippled.

    I agree, Microsoft can do so many good things with their Surface lineup that is competitive in quality against Apple's MacBook lineup. My gripe is, how they always release the laptops when new hardware is around the corner. Intel's Meteorlake chips have been announced to be released in Dec, and AMD at CES '24 (at least H1 '24) will most likely announce new processors as well. And while they aren't ARM, they'll definitely be/can cooler, quieter, and more performant this gen. WHICH is what any Win laptops need to remain competitive with M1/M2 for users who prefer battery life, and quality of life workflow (fans spinning 80% of the time, or a cable necessary to use at least 90% of the hardware's power).

This laptop as well is just such a great concept and would actually make the touch screen convenient to use unlike the 2 in 1 i have now. Its a shame though they are very pricy for the specs you get

    Honestly I respect them lower the GPU TDP. Gaming laptops are loud and hot, which in day to day I hate.
    I'd rather have a laptop be cool and quiet.
    I really hope Microsoft make a very compelling laptop soon. They have one huge advantage over Apple (who has innumerable of their own advantages), and that is gaming.
    Apple has their own CPU and GPU manufacturing, own OS, own apps, IOS integration etc. But MSFT has gaming completely cornered.
    I think if they made this laptop in a similar form factor to a Macbook pro, and also added very cool and quiet gaming internals/ while being a very good work machine I think they could chip away at Apples dominance.
    They need to use their advantages to better effect:
    - Gaming
    - Owning both the hardware and software (maybe creating exclusive tools or features)
    - Make a cheaper version, that has less gimicks and more practical features (like the MBP).
    Anyway, I don't think it will be easy, but MSFT are the only ones poised to do it as they own both hardware and software.

    I feel like the hang up with these reviews are either comparing it to a Laptop, when this is a 2-in-1, or comparing it to low end 2-in-1s, and I don't mind spending the extra money. I am looking at powerful 2-in-1s, high end 2-in-1s, and this seems more worth it for that, even if I'm not sure there are more powerful 2-in-1 options out there (Because everyone is either trying to review these in comparison to laptops or gaming laptops, or cheaper 2-in-1 devices that don't even have a dedicated GPU and push 16GB of RAM on 1/2TB hard drives).
    I just found out the other day about HP's $5,000 foldable Specter, and Lenovo's and ASEUS's more high end $2.5kish 2-in-1 laptops, but all those still use onboard graphics (Don't get me wrong, Onboard graphics can get amazing these days, but from looking them up, they ain't it). So I'm just assuming this is the one for now if I'm looking for a quick mobile workstation that can complement my powerful desktop workstation? Basically I want it to be able to run a few games like Planet Zoo and Spider-Man 2, the Sims, as well as Photoshop and illustrator, while also still being able to run stuff like basic UE5 editor or Maya all on the go, without crumbling into dust.

I have a surface book and still love it but the price for entry level of the surface is as much as yoga book 9i which offers another level of productivity by two screen with pen (although I prefer to use my slim pen). Even foldable x1 fold 16 inch is CHEAPER than most of the configuration in the surface. I think comparing with MacBook is not fair as it doesn't have touch and pen that are big issues for productivity and cannot be ignored!

    Don't you think that saying such things like "weird design" is very subjective, when you're making a review. I have watched a lots of reviews on Microsoft Surface Studio 2, but there is no reviews which help me to decide between GeForce RTX 4060 and RTX 2000 Ada GPU onboard, is it really good for modeling in Revit and rendering? How critical this difference is? Why configuration with RTX 2000 Ada doesn't have 64 GB RAM, only RTX 4060 has? Are those missing 32 GB of RAM being compensated by RTX 2000 Ada performance? But everyone in their reviews keeps just repeating all the things you can read on Microsoft Store Website by yourself, about unique formfactor, or keep adding some very unnecessary subjective points of view. No, I like the review, but it's already tenth review I'm watching, and they are almost the same. I need more Infos and Details XD XD XD!

    This is just, wow. I think Microsoft understands it is not competing with anyone, just like Apple understands that. Microsoft is delivering an incomparable product. But that price for an IPS display that maxes at 500 nits even for HDR content, AND it doesn't cover 100 percent of the P3 color gamut? That is unforgivable. I feel like anyone who is interested in this is wanting, or in many cases needing, a mini LED display with a greater color gamut. And c'mon, there's no comparison to the MBP 14. Like I said, Microsoft knows it can't deliver a product that good for that price (Microsoft just doesn't make enough of the components inside nor can it buy it at the scale of some other Windows OEMs). BUT, at the same time, and dare i say even if it cost the consumer a bit more, this machine NEEDS a better display to attract the ever so small segment of the market that would be interested in it.

    Problem is that basically you are paying about $2k for "Design and features". It's about too much, as you can get a "good laptop" and a premium table for that amount of money. Sure, it's a good product, but it's more on the "luxury side" than on the high spec/features side. On the other hand, if money is not a factor, cool go for the highest spec model, $3600 USD.

      Key Considerations:
      Processor: The Zephyrus G-16 features the i7-13620H, while the Strix G614 has the i7-13650HX. Both are powerful, but the HX variant offers slightly better performance.
      RAM: The Zephyrus has DDR4 RAM, while the Strix G614 boasts faster DDR5 RAM.
      Display: Both laptops have the same 165Hz WUXGA display, providing smooth visuals.
      Storage: Both offer a 512GB PCIe NVME SSD.
      Graphics: Identical Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPUs with 8GB DDR6.
      Price: The Zephyrus is priced at $1790, while the Strix G614 costs $1686.
      Verdict:
      If you prioritize slightly better CPU performance, go for the ASUS ROG Strix G614.
      If you prefer faster RAM and are comfortable with the slightly higher price, the Zephyrus GU603 G-16 is a solid choice.

    The Surface Pro was MS effort to push Windows tablets, and Samsung and others followed the lead, and it was an utter fail, and relative to sales, no longer anything other than a niche sector. Then comes this Laptop Studio and rightly, Windows OEMs were hesitant, and were correct. This is again a product that has very limited demand and def is not the future of creator laptop/tablet hybrids. The obvious elephant in the room is that a tablet should be as light and portable as it can possibly be for mobile tablet usage. This is too heavy. I still think that a thinner and lighter laptop complimented by an Android/iOS tablet would be more professional in efficiency and productivity.
