Well played!
That's going on the fridge xD
❤ on point.
Rip Escapist. Everyone follow Nick and the team members on socials as they also left with Nick. Even Yahtz resigned. Support them when they start their next venture!
Nick was fired, the whole team followed, Yahtzee included
@@ethan_mac_Where did they go? Do they have a new channel?
@rayzerot not yet, they've created a discord which Nick and Yahtz have shared on Twitter and said they will continue once they sort what their plan is.
The hell happened
@@daveraschke Escapist fired Nick and some others, as a result many others including Yahtz have resigned and are plotting their next course of action as a new team
boy, the "tank your company any% speedrun" category is hotly contested this year
True that. Escapist came in with an end of the year possible WR?
Only took a year after it being bought by a bigger grosser corpo scum bag to bring it to an end
Unity was on the top of the category but sadly the Escapist achieved the WR, insane strats.
The Escapist's management saw WOTC hiring the Pinkertons to go steal cards off a guy, Elon tanking Twitter, and then saw the Unity clusterfuck, and decided to get in on the self-destructive action.
I think Linus and LTT screwed up pretty bad this year, though I'm totally out of the loop on that one
You guys fired Nick and Jack. The rest of the team quit in Solidarity. If you have any shred of decency, let them take the rights for their life's work on their way out.
They don't have the slightest shred of decency. Escapist is a corporation.
It's a corporation. They don't have any decency or anything else. A corporate entity exists to do nothing other than generate revenue
The Escapist really went downhill overnight, didn't they?
@@utisti4976they were doing so well, too.
Unfortunately the entire point of copyright is to benefit those who take credit for others work. The artist almost never reaps the rewards, because large companies are the only entities with the capital to enforce such “rights”. Fortunately Yahtzee will almost certainly rebound with new ideas, because unlike some he doesn’t need to regurgitate or rent out old ideas to remain afloat
Here is for a Cold Take, the channel is in dire trouble without the video team
Frostpunk severe level Cold Take
I wonder which other company the current directors have in their sights to milk and destroy?
What the ACTUAL FUCK was escapist management thinking?! Nick had JUST managed to turn the escapist from a "This is where I go to watch Yahtzee" channel to a real ensemble where I was excited to see just about every single upload from many different creators- and oh yeah, I wanted to ACTUALLY FINANCIALLY SUPPORT THEM TOO. Needless to say my patreon support, small as it was, is gone forever. I'll be requesting a refund for November too. Un-friggin-believable.
If they refuse it just call a chargeback with the bank.
This. ^^^
Just more of the same money-grubbing MBA idiots who ruin everything they touch, then blame everyone but themselves.
They wanted to turn this into an eSports channel apparently. Let this ship sink.
@@ChipNoir It could've had that branch if they wanted it.
When an entire staff of talented people resigns, you know some bullshit is going on behind the scenes, usually to do with incompetent, money-grubbing management. Your site might survive without Yahtzee, but this channel certainly won't.
What happened? Ootl

I'm sure the lesson corporate will take from this is, "discourage friendship in the workplace".
That's really gonna clash with the typical "were all a family here" shtick lol
Goodbye, Escapist. I'll be following Yahtzee, Frost, the 3MR crew, and the rest wherever they collectively decide to set up.
The new channel is called Second wind
Literally the first FOUR HUNDRED most watched videos on this channel when you sort by "Popular" are all Yahtzee. Absolutely incredible that no matter what company, no matter what industry, corporate is consistently so goddamn tone deaf that they will slam their dicks in car doors until the end of time and will always blame someone else for it instead of their own greed and incompetence.
its especially stupid in regards to online content creation. we're here for yahtzee, not for whatever conglomerate he's signed to. if he leaves, we'll follow him because we're here for *him* and he cannot be replaced by just signing on another dude
Even the other new voices and new video concepts had his help to introduce them to a set audience so they could find their personal preferences. I love Darren and Frost’s stuff but likely would never have seen it without the boost.
And they're gone too!
@@UnreasonableOpinions Exactly! When they started the "Stuff of legends" series, it used Yahtzee to help us intrudce us to the concept and he came back a few times until Frost got to the point where he set up his audience
I mean, they didn't fire him, that is probably exactly the reason they started firing other people, because yahtzee is such a big part, and everything else is still not there, and its growing way too slow for them probably.
They just completely didnt consider that it could blow up in their face, and have yahtzee leave after it happening, because they are in their corporate bubble.
Head on over to Second Wind to catch the same people you knew and loved from the Escapist, now with 100% fewer greedy corporate overlords!
Already there!
This is the most recent video that has comments turned on. I hope they realize they fucked up
That sentiment of "not every game is made for you" is something so simple and yet so overlooked by a lot of people. It's like how a Mango Mousse can be the most carefully made lovingly crafted food comprised of the highest quality ingredients...but I hate mango so I just won't like it. But I also have no reason to trash it for being what I don't like if it told me what it was from the start.
Some people really struggle with this concept for some reason. Just look at the crappy discourse that always crops up whenever FromSoft releases a new game.
I’d add to this the layer of while a game might not be made for what your current perception of a game for you should be, you may find that you can learn to have an appreciation for a new type of gaming experience you didn’t know you would love.
So many games have fans that didn’t think they liked them after a first experience with the game or genre (decided it “wasn’t for them”) only to later find they absolutely loved them once they put more time in and they “clicked” with the game.
Games like Monster Hunter and FromSoftware and even Xenoblade have Fan base’s absolutely filled with people who initially thought the games “Are not for me” only to become the most die hard fans later.
Seriously, but people that need to hype up games that get high score don't seem to understand this, it's ridiculous.
A 10/10 for one person can be a 5/10 for someone else and as long as they aren't trashing it just cos they don't personally like it, that's fine, someone else not liking something you like isn't the end of the world.
It’s why I enjoy and hate videos that highlight negative user reviews on games. Because on one hand you notice that many of them rate it negatively because they didn’t jell with an aspect of the game, or couldn’t wrap their brains around it but refuse the idea that it’s simply a game not meant for them. At the same time that same stubborn and entitled energy drags down the gaming market and I know this which always makes me a little mad
Hope everyone gets together and starts their own thing. What a total joke and humongous mistake by the owners... what is The Escapist without the people?
Looking forward to their new show, Zero Employees
They already have! New Studio called Second Wind
Investors buy up things they have no hope of understanding and attempt to squeeze it for all it's worth. They don't know what the escapist is without the people who made it great, because they never knew or cared what made it great in the first place. They just saw a chance to make a buck.
Good luck getting a return on this investment now.

New Cold Tale just dropped on Second Wind's channel.
RIP The Escapist, long live the video production team members. Shocked management managed to fuck this up so badly.
If this is the last ever Escapist video with the old team I can watch in good conscience, it was a good one to go out on. Good luck all with future work! 🙏
The Escapist always been in the top slot of my CZcams subscriptions. Sadly, today will be the last day I ever watch an Escapist video.
I have said it before, and I will say again, perhaps one last time - Nick Calandra single-handedly saved the Escapist from devolving into "Zero Punctuation presented by The Escapist" or "The Escapist featuring Zero Punctuation." Nick took a toxic community and turned it into one of the most friendly communities. Nick added so many good segments that I actually watched more than Zero Punctuation for the first time since the days of "Unskippable" and "Extra Credits," two other segments that got screwed over by Escapist. I fully stand behind those you fired and those who quit in solidarity. You greedy business types only see the *possibility* of numbers (which is rarely based in reality), but you fail to see how difficult, if not impossible, those numbers are to reach. After what you did, not only will you never see those numbers go up, they will only go down. I hate to say it, but I can imagine in a couple of months or a few years a complete shut down of the Escapist, with the parent company executives claiming the shut down was due to "a loss of interest" and without taking responsibility of their own.
For the record for the future generations, may the record show this channel once had 1.25 million subscribers.
It had 1,26M two days ago, and is now down to 1,23M. I am impressed how a channel can lose that many subs without any content actually on the platform being the cause.
I also noticed that I was subscribed to something called The Escapist Live, and I think there are a few other relics from attempts at dividing the content to separate channels - I recommend anyone reading this to check your sub list and ditching any of those you might have followed years ago (as well as the new 3MR)
The new channel is called Second wind
Thank you for the benchmark, I unsubscribed but will be checking back to see how low the numbers go. This year has had so many good examples of hard won good will being so very, very easy to ruin with corporate greed. Like unity.
Sorting comments by 'newest' is satisfying.
Look at the Marvel Spider-Man 2 review!!!! They had the balls to drop it after Yahtzee quit and they disabled all comments
This dialogue is why I am so excited to see game demos making a comeback. I don't have to preface my opinions with statements like "Laika: Aged through Blood is a wonderful game IF you like yadda yadda..."
I can just say it's a great metroidvania style game with a fun twist. Try the demo and you'll know whether it's for you.
Personally Imiss TotalBiscuit... we need a first impression CZcamsr that actually knows what they are talking about and just plays the first 30-60 minutes.. that would be so much more helpful than reviews.
Sadly won't happen with bigger games I bet.
It would allow a potential customer to try the game out without paying and missing the point at which they would be able to refund it, if they are even given a choice to refund.

3:58 not to be pedantic, but no child left behind also extremely failed special needs students too. Instead of allowing those students to be in spaces where they can be individually allowed what they need and not be overwhelmed, it resulted in a lot of students with differing needs all being lumped into classes that were incredibly overwhelming. That, combined with the grading pressures in order to keep funding, resulted in a lot of special needs and lower-performing students to be overlooked, judged unfairly, pushed to drop out, or even just flat-out ignored and given automatic grade boosts to keep the funding flowing.
No Child Left Behind was a law with good heart and nice sentiment that was absolutely horrible for almost everybody. The advanced students got bored and never learned how to study, screwing them over in the long run. The special needs students didn't get their needs addressed well, but were continually pushed along despite not knowing what they needed to know, and the "average" student didn't get enough help from teachers, because they were forced to spend so much time with the students with disabilities.
@@RobinClower What makes it even worse is that often times the teachers weren't equipped or even had time to help the disabled students either. I wish so badly that the lawmakers, especially Kennedy who genuinely did it with the best of intentions, just listened to all the disability groups pointing out how horrid NCLB would be but instead it was pushed through anyways.
Yeah I got caught up in that mess back in 2006. Stuck me in a shack outside town with 50 other students with low grades just to keep us from effecting the GPA. No teachers, no classes, just desks in an old metal shack. I consider myself a middle school drop out despite spending the last 6 years as "enrolled" and getting a diploma. What waste.
We were not SpEd. Thwy had they're own programs that were state funded. We were just the unwanted students. Most of us from poor or broken families that had bad home lives.
@@RobinClower Not just that, but even some other good laws were struck down for flying against the constitution.
An example of that was "Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006". When that was taken off law books, gambling in the United States exploded.
Not from the US but as once a special needs student it is also very important to see that kids can be at very different levels for very different fields. You can easily be two years ahead in math and history and still write like a third grader. Or you can be a genius at language but unable to do calculations. The fact that school systems often do not allow for people to work at the level they are at is a massive problem. At the same time, you cannot expect teachers to teach five levels at the same time. the real solution is to simply have classes of at most ten people but there is never enough time or funding for that.

Bold move escapist. Let’s see how this works out for you.
The radio silence on this channel is deafening.
Yeah why haven’t they said ANYTHING about an entire division of their company up and leaving?
I've been watching ZP since about 2012. That's almost 12 years, the majority of which I only really came to Escapist to watch ZP. A lot of the other content was fine, I'd watch occasional episodes here and there, but ZP was the only thing that really kept me coming back. It's only been in the last couple years that more of the other creators on the channel got my attention. I think a big part of that was that the newer creators were given the freedom to make a wider range of content. Frost is an excellent example; I've loved both Cold Take and Stuff of Legend, in large part because it was content that had the passion of a person who wanted the world to hear their thoughts.
For a brief moment Escapist had an empire. The sentiment of "I only come here for ZP" was starting to fall by the wayside. It was growing and expanding, new people were being brought in and with them a wider range of audiences. In another year or two the content on this channel could have reached brand new heights. The channel's video production was trying new things, testing new formats, pushing on the frontier of what could have been. But that wasn't enough. You nearly had an empire, but were dissatisfied because you could have had two.
Let that be the lesson that you, and every other corporation in the world takes to heart. Whether because of greed, impatience, or pure and simple incompetence, you drove everything into the ground overnight. Yesterday people were gathering here because they found fellow people with passion, but tomorrow they will only gather for the spectacle of watching everything burn. And those same people that you spited, out of greed, impatience and incompetence, will inherit your empire when you're gone.

Time to abandon ship
End of an era folks
This is it, this is how the Escapist died.
This is something that I was thinking about the other day. Gaming is an industry bigger than Hollywood and Nashville together at this point. It's more than large enough to not only have, but need demographic targeting. We don't think it's weird that Barbie is aimed at a certain audience (fans of Oppenheimer apparently) and is a hit with them. It's a bit weird that, particularly in reviews, people seem to think that gaming is still all aimed soley at college age dudes and everyone is going to be talking around the canteen table about the latest CoD release like it was 2011. That might happen with a big hit, but I know from my own small group of ageing nerd friends that we have a very diverse set of tastes in games (with enough overlap to find some good co-op bangers).
It’s coming. With the recent labour wins in Hollywood it’s only a matter of time the same happens to gaming. And when you put workers in charge of their work and artists in charge of their art, we’ll you get art plain and simple. Until then we’ll have to do with high quality products that have their place and are fun and valuable but aren’t what you are describing in your comment. That’s the future.

Good Riddance Escapist, this will be probably the last good content you'll publish.
Still uploading Zero Punctuation and disabling comments. The end is near.
The Escapist's blunder a blessing in disguise. Yahtzee is older now and, compared to his early videos, much less vitriolic. He's due for a rebrand. Plus, the entire Adventure Is Nigh team can simply start a new campaign. Deep Delve can continue (JM8 owns the rights) and Darren's movie reviews can be repackaged anyway they like. Nick is a very good leader and the fact that he's ponced all the main talent to make something new is already a much more exciting prospect than 'more of the same forever'.
The new channel is called Second wind
not even just the main talent, the editors and planners and basically everyone bolted with them.
If only this channel could get a "second wind" hint hint
If you check their social accounts you can see that the new group project is called Second Wind.
Do they have a channel up yet? want to unsub here and sub to them
@@CorusameChannel and patreon are both up, and there will be a stream at the usual post-ZP time in a couple of hours (11AM pacific iirc)
To Hades credit, Supergiant's primary focus is to tell a story. And sadly in Hades it is very difficult to tell a story if you consistently win a rogue-lite. Failure is required for opportunities for dialogue and story progression to happen. They did an excellent job using the rogue-lite system to tell an interesting and compelling spin on a Greek myth created to explain the seasons. But even then if you keep winning runs in Hades consistently there is reward is speeding up the first act of the story, and it gets you into the lesser seen dialogue trees they specifically planned out and made assuming there will be some people who CAN blast through their runs.
