My god! I thought Freelancer was dead forever!! This was one of the BEST games of my childhood, literally the game that got me into space stuff.
Literally keep my disc right here on my desk where I can never lose it. But haven't built a CD/DVD reader into my last 3 systems. Thank you for including the disk image for those of us who can simply pop in the code on our sleeve. And for those who can't.

absolute nostalgia kicking in. I remember working on the mod as one of the 3d artists for some ships, gallia and other stuff. Honestly getting the nostalgia train kicking off to the point im heavily tempted to reinstall this today :D

@@kinetickhaos6144 I have! That's what I replayed the campaign with. I haven't delved too far into the CF campaign though, I've heard there's a lot of grind. Will still play through it I reckon.

Almost 15 years ago I played on discovery server. I am interested in coming back. I wish we could play this mod with higher textures and screen resolution, in HD.

Just to clarify Sares the Discovery mod does have higher textures and will play the game at your PC's resolution. This video for example is in 2k as it was shot on a 2k monitor!

Bought the disc in 2004 played so many hours but i started to cheat made it so that my rhino's hull wouldn't take much damage. But the hilarious part was that the guns kept getting shot off the ship. I loved it 🤣🤣 Beat the game. It was a bit grueling for me. So many hyper bridges and jump holes etc.

Can 5.0 be played offline in SP? Awesome video. Nothing like Freelancer. The OG of space gaming.
It can be played offline in SP. But it's best to see the SP mode as a more test area. It won't save your game, it will reset each time you launch FL. What is it you wanted to do?

Eh, more of a playing to a role and having to respond to certain ppl (like police trying to figure out wtf ur doing or pirates trying to take money). You don't need to do 100% serious RP, nor get involved in narratives/or write stories if you don't want to. Treat it like a Bethesda game
There's also other discovery servers with non-RP but they won't have the same plugins as main server
Yea usually it's not very strict except for having to say a few words before engaging your enemy. You get used to it very quickly.
And you are compensated with a lot of new ships, equipment (cloaks and jump drives) and the highest population of Freelancer players on any server. 👍

@@tamaskosa4456 taking screenshots to prove to admins that I warned that trader to not do anything stupid in case that salty duchebag reported me for killing without RP reason even though that reason was shooting at my humble slave liner/pirate ship :D Only to rofl at Russian Corsairs and their broken English "eganagung" or "enanging" before novas started flying (and missing.... I swear Corsairs had worst pilots for some reason xD) :D Those were the days!
That's why I move to Rebirth. Too many rules and loopholes. Takes the fun out of playing.

And there have been times when the 150+ slot server has been full to the brim. It just depends on what people's IRL schedules are like, what player made or server made events there are etc.

Does Discovery is compatible with Freelancer HD Edition ?
Unfortunately Discovery is not directly compatible with Freelancer HD Edition. As well as updated textures, it included broader game improvement changes and fixes that conflict with Discovery. We'd strongly recommend playing Freelancer HDE for an amazing campaign experience before trying Discovery for the online multiplayer.

Still not worth getting into when parts of the community are still quite hostile to its players.
I remember seeing posts on the Discover server forum where they talked about different role play restrictions as they were coming out.
The discourse was wild; I remember flat out telling one moderator that they ought to care about alienating their player base with all the arbitrary restrictions they were creating. I was told that they don't care about growing or maintaining their player base: They had enough players, thank you very much.
Back then they regularly had over 100 players at peak hours; it was fun to play back then.
Now, they're lucky if they push 20-30 and they're spread out among so many systems that interaction beyond typing at people is sadly low.
I actually wondered if things had changed and they were more player friendly. I looked in on a thread regarding Player Bans and the like. Some guy recently had 2 of his characters/ships deleted because he ROLEPLAYED two different ships in two different systems cooperating to catch a trader/smuggler.
If I was a trader, that would be engaging to have that curveball, but I guess the higher-ups there don't like that kind of engagement. They want people typing fan fiction at each other.
It's just f++kin sad because Disco started off really fun. I was trying to get my friends to join me there before I gave up as the avalanche of nerf rules were instituted.
A lot of hate for Microsoft cause they canceled the sequel...

@@Henry-350 Yes, but it is important. Just who owns the license and whether the person allows it. And to steal Star Citizen stuff for other stuff is not cool and does not do justice to the Star Citizen quality.
Considering Star Citizen in freelancer were designed by the same guy I don't see much of a problem with it
I agree, it is very important. Credits were given to the artist(s) in the description. It's cool to see you also made a nice CZcams video on your own channel, which also has music from someone else, notably a large Hollywood composer. Ultimately this is a no-budget fan made trailer. Explore? Lol. Somebody will always get offended and ask for bounty/fine to be paid. Discovery is precisely not what Freelancer's core message was, Freedom.
All the new material they created was engaging until a sub-culture within the mod leadership emerged to push a host of arbitrary restrictions on gameplay not present in vanilla:
1.) Access to many new ships is restricted to Faction Members.
2.) New ships are often way more expensive.
3.) The best of the new trade ships are restricted to specific Factions
4.) The associated Factions for those new trade ships are restricted from the best trade runs.
And the reason given on Discovery forums was that leadership was upset that there was an "influx" of "overpowered" traders running around actually roleplaying money hungry traders trying to dodge pirates or law enforcement, instead of sitting in a station typing up contrived fan fiction that they call "roleplay."
I mean seriously, the gold standard for RP on that server is a guy typing out conversations happening on their capital ship's bridge, as if such a ship would open a channel to broadcast their private conversations to the entire system.
Definitely not freedom there. More like fascism pretending to be art.
