250 vs 300 2 Stroke | Why I Chose the 250!

    250 or 300 2 stroke dirt bike? In this video I share my experience and why I ultimately ended up purchasing a KTM 250 XC-W TPI instead of the KTM 300 XC-W TPI.
    The 300 has a higher displacement and provides more low end power and torque, while the 250 is a faster revving engine. 300s do a great job at a low RPM and will likely stall less - perfect for riders who are lazy and don't like shifting :)
    ____________________________________________________________________________________
    Why I chose the 250:
    Short answer: it was available.
    Longer answer: I personally prefer the more lively engine for my style of riding. The 250 can be opened up with more control, especially as a less experienced rider. It still lugs incredibly well and can honestly do anything the 300 can.
    You can't go wrong with either choice! The progression of modern 2 strokes has come a long way over the past several years.
    One final note I forgot to mention in my video. KTM actually sells a conversion kit for the 250 to 300.

    I've driven dirt bikes for a long time, but I've tried a TPI bike or an injection 4 stoke. Never felt attracted to 4stokes and I'm currently looking forward to buy a new bike.
    I'm mostly an enduro rider, from the reviews and by watching other people ride, it is perceptible that the "struggle" to ride one of these new bikes has diminished. But never had such a good explanation as you did at 2:05, I really enjoy "when the demon goes" (power valve opens) and we go blasting.

    Good review. I was there a year ago and went w a 250xc tpi over a 300. Glad I did. More nimble and fun bike to work on and off the pipe. Easier on a weekend warrior. I think the heavier feeling of the 300 is under emphasized. To me it felt appreciably heavier at the motor than the 250 and my buddy who I swapped w (300 xc-w) agreed. But the 300 does lug you through anything so the technical terrain consideration is real. Rider style and preference. Both awesome bikes.

    Both great bikes, it purely comes down to rider capability, you can be a fast rider on 125cc and a slow rider on a 250cc. Ktm 300 and the 250 two stroke are both very capable bikes, it all comes down to how capable of a rider you are, ive ridden a lot of bikes but you can only ride as fast and technical as your abilities allow, the longer you do anything the better you get at it and you can definitely start out on any bike, but obviously starting out on a smaller bike will help to build your confidence instead of getting on something that scares you, but that being said you dont have to ride a bike to the bikes potential you can ride a fast bike slow but inmo it just takes longer to learn when you get on something with a substantial amount of power, just dont be an idiot and ride to your limit until you gain confidence to push yourself and the bike even more. Stay safe peeps 🙏 also dont buy 4 strokes as they're extremely boring 😂 and dont make a good braaaap sound

    Hey great video! I’m currently riding a ktm excf 250 ‘18 and I love it it’s my first bike ever. Now I’d like to jump in the 2 stroke world because I’d like to do more enduro rides. My concern is that I have never rode a 2 stroke before so I thought buying something small to learn on it (like a 125 for example) but I was told it wouldn’t be the best for enduro. The 250 or 300 were suggested but I feel it’s gonna be « too much » for me. I’m confused!! I guess I can learn well on a 250 it’s just maybe be more careful? Do you have a suggestion for a beginner on 2 stroke who wants to do more enduro stuff? 🤣 thanks btw!

    • @ShiftGearsMoto
      @ShiftGearsMoto  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! 2 strokes are awesome, but do come with a slight learning curve. My advice is to go straight to a 250. A 125 is the same size bike, but you have to run it a lot harder since they don't have a lot of low end grunt. You can lug a 250 or a 300 so much easier. Modern 250 and 300s (especially TPI bikes) have a fairly linear power curve, similar to a 4 stroke. They will snap with the right adjustments, but you can modify so many different parts (ECU, cylinder head, power valve, etc.). Keep it simple and if you're comfortable on a 250 4 stroke, you'll be fine a 250 2 stroke.
      Thanks for watching and I hope this helps! Cheers.
