Our great president shri APJ Abdulkalam visited Maneksha when he was admitted in hospital president asked maneksha whether he had any problem or grievances manekshas reply was ‘’due to my health issues i am not able to salute my supreme commander please excuseme’’
At that time he didn’t mention about his pension arrears but president came to know from others about this after reaching delhi he summoned defence secretary and give him three days time to settle this issue and also told him to go coonoor and personally handover the payment to our great field marshal

This tribute to a much decorated military officer is indeed very timely. It highlights a number of interesting points:
1. Not for nothing that Parsis, the community of Maneckshaw, are eulogised as the ideal minority. They have made invaluable contributions to the development of India. One cannot forget the Tatas, Homi Bhaba, Zubin Mehta, Keki N Dharuwala, Rohinton Mistry, Dadabhai Naoroji and innumerable others. Moreover the Parsis have never entered into any conflict. The tower of silence where their dead bodies are fed to vultures is a powerful testimony to their altruism.
2. We need Military men who can resist unwanted political interference. His refusal to meddle in politics is a lesson to be emulated by the Defence officers.
3. Maneckshaw's funeral was a low profile one unattended by the political bigwigs. Of course Antony's absence cannot be justified. It is as it should be. We should love and respect military men because they make the greatest sacrifice for us, but we shouldn't glorify or deify them because war is a necessity not an adornment.
4. Army men are the best persons to conduct a war. Political leaders should never be a part of military strategy or administration.

You do have a point there. He did indeed deserve better. The lone representative of the government was MoS Defence, Pallan Raju. Deepak Kapur, the army chief, was on a tour of Russia. The absence of the other two couldn't be condoned in any way.

Adv. Jayasankar ji, you are a powerful and honest person. I love and respect you more and more as your sincerely broad concept and opinions about others in a sterling fashion come out every day. This video is a great tribute to the true Field Marshal, Sam Maneksha. As you said, Antony was an incompetent politician as well as a disastrous leader.
Anthony played a big role in weakening the Armed forces by not ordering new equipment as he wanted to maintain his clean image. He is responsible for weakening the Congress party by supporting the Italian lady and her incompetent family. So now we have a democracy with a opposition party which can't even win the minimum number of seats to get a leader of the opposition. Even most A group Congress men may not be interested in attending his funeral

Apart from being a great soldier and leader, Manekshaw was a man of great charm possessing a fine sense of humour. He was very articulate. Spoke flawless English with a British accent. Many women spoke of him as being the best looking Indian man they have ever seen. No Surprise!!
Spot on. A video of him being interviewed by his nephew had gone viral on the social media a couple of years. It was such a delight to listen to him even at that advanced age. His sparkling wit enlivened the conversation. Neither did age wither him nor did custom stale his infinite variety.

Before Field Marshall Maneckshaw, we had Field Marshall Cariappa as the first Chief of Army Staff of Independent India. So Field Marshall Cariappa is the first Field Marshall of India.
Yes, General Kariappa is the first Indian General, a great man. But, he was made field marshal after General Maneckshaw.
Cariappa was the first General, but only the second Field Marshall. He was awarded FM title only in 1986, long after his retirement. But before him, Manek Shaw was awarded with that title in 1973 when he was the then General of Indian Army.
Lt col.Niazi was the Pak side officer who surrendered with 90000 soldiers.
