      you know what i find interesting about this conversation, someone who's new to this game might perceive this dialogue to be an argument, which in hindsight it is, but if you know this game enough, you can see the disconnect with Solas and a dalish Inquisitor. so when you look at the dialogue options, most people would take it as, how does a simple question get turned into bickering. well i can answer it in one way, if your playing as a human, dwarf, or Qunari, this line of dialogue would not go this way. it only goes like this if your Inquisitor is an elf, a dalish elf at that. if you ask this question from a humans perspective or dwarf, he's more than happy to share, but the reason is because, he knows less about you than those who call themselves dalish. however if you played this game before, then despite how much knowledge Solas knows regarding the past, he's not as caught up with dalish. the way he sees them are, how much the elves have changed. since he knows more than they do, he feels a certain guilt, so even though he's not trying to be condescending to a dalish Inquisitor, for him it's more like a defense mechanism. but because this is the early part of the game, your Inquisitor is not gonna pick up on who he is, so to the Inquisitor they took as why are you being so snappy. by the way no matter which dialogue option you choose, the conversation still starts out a little condescending. i love inky, but that's also why i like playing as a human. playing as a elf is pretty interesting and fun, but as you progesss throughout the game, you'll find certain conversations and dialogue options can often end up in a similar manner.

      After watching some other gameplay videos I think it's close but slightly different from what I assumed. I originally though it was just recycled from DA2; in which the star icon marked mage only dialogue options. But I've come to the conclusion that it just marks unique options. So class, race and probably gender gated options.

      @shinsaikou1 Před 9 lety +1

      Sometimes it isn't always clear why the star option shows up in conversations. Often times it gives you some more insightful questions to ask or things to say. Though a few times the star has given me some options that seemed to be of the "do not want" variety... I'm talking in general, not just with our mysterious mage here...

      Having a culture that adapts and changes is not 'bullshit' but natural. The Dalish try to keep elven culture alive (as do the city elves in their own way) which inevitably will mean that aspects of it will be very different to that of their ancestors due to it existing in and responding to a different world to that which their ancestors lived in hundreds of years ago. Where Solas sees this as a 'corruption', I see it as healthy. Solas is usually a rational, thoughtful character but when it comes to the Dalish he clearly bears a large chip on his shoulder that clouds his better judgement.

    • @Erynnsilver
      @Erynnsilver Před 9 lety +3

    • @Tlevids
      @Tlevids Před 9 lety +26

      Sounds like you have both bought into stereotypes of the Dalish elves. The Dalish consist of many tribes, each adapted to its own environment and each consisting of different individuals and leaders with varying attitudes. Some are closed minded and inward looking while others trade freely with humans and welcome city elves into their ranks. The Lavellan tribe in Inquisition even works with the Inquisition to rescue a human/city elf settlement from red lyrium crazed nobles.
      Their attitude towards city elves also varies - some are derogatory towards them while others are welcoming toward them. Pol from the Sabrae clan was protected by the Dalish when he fled to them, Zathrian made Lanaya (a city elf) his first - a decision accepted by the clan, and Feynriel was protected by the Sabrae clan despite him being a powerful and dangerous human mage (of elven heritage). Hahren Paivel states that when the Dalish regain a homeland, the city elves would be welcome and could help the Dalish better understand the humans.
      Meanwhile, city elves also have a wide range of attitudes concerning the Dalish. Some look up to the Dalish (such as the elderly elf at Redcliffe in DA:I), others view them as savages (mainly due to human propaganda) and some even join bandit groups which prey on the Dalish - Warden Mahariel's father was murdered by a bunch of city elves and humans so that they could rob him.
      Regarding the Dalish culture, it consists of both elements of their past and new elements. The Dalish maintain old aspects of elven culture and history in order to maintain a distinct culture which gives them a sense of identity and belonging rather than live as second class citizens in a dull and uniform human world. The city elves also mostly maintain their elven heritage to some degree via a number of rituals. Only some elves (like Sera) turn their backs on elven culture entirely and that is because she was raised by humans. Dalish culture also has many new innovations such as their aravels pulled by halla which give them a nomadic life which their ancestors lacked. Many prefer this life to the lives of their past ancestors:
      "The keeper says that one day the Dalish will find a home that we can call our own. But why? Why should we tie ourselves to stone constructions like the humans and the dwarves? What is wrong with the life we have now? We owe nothing to anyone, we have no master but ourselves, and we go where the halla and the gods take us. There is nothing more wonderful than sitting on an aravel as it flies through the forest, pulled by our halla. We are truly free, for the first time in our people's history. Why should we change this?"
      So it is a generalisation to state that the Dalish look only to the past. Regardless, their lifestyle IMO is generally far superior to that of the city elves who live in slums in constant fear of humans. In The Masked Empire, elven traders at Halamshiral are constantly ripped off by nobles who refuse to pay them for their services and elves are indiscriminately butchered by chevaliers and guards in times of unrest. So in many cases, I don't blame the Dalish for viewing their own lifestyle as superior to that of the city elves.

    I have a question for you Lady Insanity, is there a way to get the text on your screen to be big when playing Dragon Age Inquisition? I don't have an HDTV or anything like that, mine is a simple tv and the text is super small that I can't see it. So I can't really enjoy my game as much.

      I thank you for trying but it's already been confirmed on the EA forums this morning it's the games coding.. It's faulty and glitchy for us.. It's happening to people on the ps4 and the xbox one, some people can't even get the disc to read after playing it for a while.. But I appreciate the help though but I really doubt clearing the cache would do it seeing as it's the only game giving me problems.. I resorted to go back to playing Skyrim or Lords of Shadow 2

    What does what Solas tell us about blood magic use tends to make it difficult to enter the fade mean for us now that we know what Lyrium is, more or less what the Titans are, and what we now about the fade and his making the veil? Titans used their own "blood" per se and they seemed to be separate entities of the world before the veil. Yet Templars draw their abilities from the lyrium in their blood, and as Cole says they hum the old song in them. Blood magic may not be evil, but it certainly has a draw upon it that leads us away from the fade and can cause a bloodlust and a maddening in those that use it too much. Are dwarves unable to use magic because they can't use their blood for magic, or rather that's all they have? Why do they need the Titans to have magic?
