Was thinking the boys aren't wearing life jackets but no point if they fall overboard the men in grey suits sort it out ! 😂 nice wheelhouse 👍

Yes I have been thinking about the guys wearing personal flotation devices but in the heat of the tropical weather we have up here the crew would certainly not be willing to wear them.

I went over the side of the Starlite in 2010. 4 am with a new moon. Pitch black like ink. I was in the water with the sharks for minutes. I made it back. Reef sharks wont get you unless your bleeding. Tigers however. On deck you are wet and sweating and moving/chafing. PFD 's get in the way. The rope is the danger when you are dropping traps. It will grab you in a bite in a second and rip you off your feet and over the side. Always wear boots a size too big so you can get out of them when the rope grabs your foot. Good memories

Came across your Whangamata video TK. Remember it back in the day. Towed that bloody Mirki home from Slipper many times!! Was a heap of shit. Remember the Ahipara boats and buying quota off Duncan and Graham, with that alloy longliner. Think l saw Vangard for sale just the other day in Raglan. Pretty sure we bumped into you on hills off Hokianga. We were trolling for tuna and you were bottom lining for Blue nose on the 107 hill Lord Nelson sticks in my mind?? Late 90's 8:30 😂 Love your content.

Yeah TK, lots of water under the bridge since then. Funny story. Was having a beer at Puhoi Pub recently, if you know it. Staunch bike came up to me and give me a hug. Recognized me straight away and reckoned l saved his life, age 16. He was deckie on Mirki when it went up to Tairua and l towed them home on a shit day. It's a small world ha ha. Keep up the good work TK.. truly professional.

Yeah TK, that's right. I couldn't remember his name. Did he fish for Keith Imms, they had the fish shop next to the Cedarwood, was it;, on the main street there.l used to supply them a bit too,, particularly over holidays when they were busy. Then Mirki went up to Tairua to Staford Venn. About 1992sh. He went bust and don't know what happened after that. Think l saw her up Whitianga at some stage. You video got me thinking a bit aye!! Grahams boat was "Ramage" l think. Remembered today. Guess you remember Avon & Sneak & John Norman, rest of boys that used to chase tuna in the Bay, mostly from Whitianga when not dredging for scolops. Happier days for fishing industry this side of the Tasman. Good times back then down Coromandel when it was a community and not a holiday destination for Auckland. Good luck with your new venture TK and I'll follow you with interest. Nice clean sustainable fishery so good stuff.

Possible Stupid Question: Would you ever consider slow-steaming out to the fishing ground to time your arrival for the morning, rather than sit at anchor overnight?

Yes we normally would but we are governed by the tides when we depart from Darwin.

    Good morning Skipper ,
As you know I have been following you for quite some time , and always wanted to ask you :
Do you ever go fishing near
    New Caledonia?
I am asking as I was there in ‘92 , for 12 months , doing my National Service.
Thank you once again for the adventures.

    Great informative video mate.
A couple of times throughout the video you sounded a horn of some sort. Just curious as to what the reason for that is?
    Keep a the great work.
    Cheers

I watch the cameras and when the deckhand comes into view and gives me the thumbs up that they are ready to set the next trap I hit the horn to set the trap. They won't set it until I sound the horn.

I have been subscribed to your CZcams channel for a while now and your knowledge is amazing and I would like to ask you would you think about doing this in the Cook Islands. I have a GPS coordinate that has never been fished in the history of the Cook Island’s. sometimes in life it’s not about the money it’s about being the first to ever. Going to the moon and climbing the highest mountain in the world. I will not post the location because others might go there. Untouched by humans for billions of years and you will be the first. I wish I could be fishing that area but I’m focusing on my last 3 kids. 6 kids last 3 my baby girl 21 years old is studying to be a registered nurse my 19 year old son is studying at university to become a doctor and my last baby boy is 11 years old and is autistic and I have been looking after my sister for 30 years and lives with me and my wife who is cancer free and can’t look after herself. I remember at 5 years old fighting kids because they were teasing her and I’m the youngest out of 6 . 5 brothers and one sister. I love fishing and I have 2 boats a 4.6 dory a 6.7 barcrusher from New Zealand and I truly believe that this location will make you money. I might be wrong but millions of people have been wrong. From a Aitutaki Cook Islander and I’m sorry about my mistake writing English is my second language so sorry I forgot to say I live in Australia so my kids education is recognised through the world
