  • Catching a 1000lb tuna is among the toughest fishing challenges on earth. The power and speed of the Atlantic giant bluefin is legendary, but before Matt and the team can experience this first hand, they first need to find one. The expedition is set in the Gulf of St Lawrence in Nova Scotia Canada. After battling tough conditions and some near misses with these ocean giants, they hit the jackpot. The footage of dozens of giants must be seen to be believed.

    A great run of giants on P.E.I. every late summer/early fall. They've done such a great job of managing the stocks, that there are 1000#'ers still plentiful and only a 20 minute run from the dock lol. It looked like a great trip, glad you could experience it and share it with us. Great episode, cheers.

      Prince Edward Island? Lucky the Japs haven’t figured out a way to get there and decimate these stocks. These granders are worth over $50K each in Tokyo fish market.

    We are now getting massive shoals of bluefin tuna off the SW coast of the UK, average sizes seem to be 200/500 lb, but there are definitely fish more than twice that size in amongst the smaller fish. Love seeing the massive shoals feeding, it's like an episode of blue planet some days, with bait balls erupting everywhere, truly amazing!

    Awsome trip mate. Those big blues are awsome animals. They come into the Gulf of Mexico here off the texas coast in the summer to spawn. We have hooked and released a couple fishing for swords. Big differenc is we are In 2 or 3 thousand feet of water and they head straight down. We fought one for 23 hrs before release the other a much bigger fish was fought for 26 hrs before hook pulled. One or two are landed here on the Texas coast every yr.

    • @mdv2043
      @mdv2043 Před 8 měsíci

      @brettkuhn118 there are definitely a targetable species in nova Scotia and there abouts. Here in Texas they are acidental catches for the most part. Spawning in 3000 + feet of water changes the game. Usually results in long battles and dead fish.

    In North America we don't call them "giant blue fin tuna."
    We just call them blue fin tuna.
    Callig them "giant blue fin tuna" would be like calling the fire ant the "tiny fire ant," it is redundant.

    Pretty sure chances are that many will die after release, the drowning starts once they are hooked, and by the time you get it alongside to release they are about atleast 75% dead. Sports fish are classified species that can handle catch and release, not tunas.
