  • Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) is associated with progressive growth of skin tumors that can begin in a person's 20's. These tumors number in the hundreds to thousands on average and can be quite difficult to conceal. They can also produce symptoms of pain and intense itching. For many patients living with NF1, removing tumors can have a positive impact that can change a person's quality of life for the better. Dr. Panossian describes the process known widely as "electrodesiccation". The actual process of tumor removal employs the technique of electrodesiccation as just one of method for actual removal of tumors. It is most useful for the smallest tumors. However, Dr. Panossian is able to remove hundreds of tumors during surgery by also excising tumors and using other techniques he has developed over two decades of performing this procedure.

I agree a lot of doctors want to wait until the tumor is large. I prefer to try to be proactive and have them removed before they become a big problem. I've already dealt with doing that when I was younger.
