  • Lots of videos on how to use live traps to catch critters, but not many on how to release them, so this video will cover that topic.

    This was a huge help. Your cord trick to open the door worked like a charm.

    Used this same method with the wire for opening the door.... worked great this morning.... Rocky is now in his new digs 10 miles away.

    I just caught a troublesome squirrel and knew some kind soul would tell me how to safely get him out without getting myself bitten! Thank you so much! I like your release area! I will do the same type of area for this guy!

    Great release method, Mr Eckard. Thank you for sharing. I've used a spray version of rubberized dip on my trap to minimize damage to the animal's forearms, something Havaheart could be doing. Keep managing your land and have a blessed day.

  • @robthewaywardwoodworker9956

    They do scoot when they realize the door is open! The ones I've done in the last couple of days didn't even look back or say thanks! LOL I find putting a blanket over the cage when you transport or even when you carry it, makes the critter a little more at ease. No need for extra trauma. I like the welding glove; extra protection up the arm a ways.

      Good video! I just trapped and released a raccoon this morning! He moved into our barn in late November. He was sleeping in a horse stall feeder, then he found his way up into the higher parts of the barn. I could hear him crawling around in the walls, and decided that now’s the time to get rid of him. I took him down close to the river that’s near us, opened the door, wearing welders gloves, out he ran through the snow to a big cottonwood tree and climbed up. It’s getting warmer now, and though there’s a lot of snow, I’m sure he’ll be able to find food and shelter.

    Had a very large one who was very agitated, opened the door, it went about 5' stopped and turned around to look at me. I was prepared with some wasp spray, one shot and he decided to head in the other direction. Caught this one when the trap was set for a groundhog. Do not like dealing with them since large ones can really tear into a trap and they can carry parasites that are transmittable. Big ones can be very unpredictable.

    I just did this. My trap is a little different. I used a spring clamp to keep the door open. This guy would not leave for about 10 minutes so the clamp allowed me to walk away. How about a video on releasing a skunk! That’s when I call the pros! 😊

      Ive had a few of those. I didnt bother with relocation. The more docile ones, I try to give a second chance, in an area where they are miles from any places they could become a problem again.

    No clue how that was tied.

    • @roberteckard4063
      @roberteckard4063  Před rokem +2

      I just tied a piece of wire, one end to the spring handle to pull back and the other to the bottom of the door so I can pull it up. So with both ends tied you just pull the wire and it simultaneously pulls back the spring hinge and lifts the door open. Now keep in mind, if that little raccoon was upset, you can drop the wire and make a run for it, but Ive not had that ever happen. They are always ready to go the other way.

    Did you ever think about the rest of the animals that live where you release that raccoon? If everyone does that then the population will be too high. They are still going to travel, maybe find the closest houses trash cans or small livestock and have at them. If you have a problem raccoon and decide to do something about it, please suck it up and don't make him someone else's problem.

    • @roberteckard4063
      @roberteckard4063  Před rokem +7

      Yes I think about where I release the animal. It is miles from any people or areas where it could get into trouble. Its a very large wildlife area swamp on the Tennessee River. The ones I release are young ones im giving a second chance at a better life vs old boars, which I just dispatch

    • @oczhaal
      @oczhaal Před rokem +1

      @@roberteckard4063 If you catch raccoons so frequently, there is an overpopulation in your area, so you don't need to release them and in fact you're helping maintain nature's balance by dispatching them.

      @@oczhaal Actually developers are clearing 100s of acres behind my farm for homes and stores. My little oasis is 500-600 acres now surrounded my million dollar homes and soon to be homes and shopping centers. So the wild life is running to my property, with no where to go. I do what I can to save some. I have more deer running around now than a state park. I cant trap them so they end up on the hiway, typically destroying cars and trucks and a few lives. Now we are fighting off the many wanting our land now that we are surrounded. Imminent domain they have tried that a few times, dig up my property and cut my hundred plus year old trees to make room for the sewer lines and power poles. Come walk my shoes and then see how you feel then.
