Thank you Leland for another venue tour. We are both the age when we had to confront a realization that we could not support.
Doris and I had spent the early Spring of 1965 at the University of Nevada Reno doing the paper work to immigrate to Canada. It was completed in July ’65 and our next step would be to report to the Canadian Embassy in San Francisco.
On the 26th of August 1965, in the early morning, President Lyndon Johnson announced that August 26, 1965 would be the last day to have marriage be an exemption to the draft. With a wink and a nod Doris and I married that Thursday, August 26th 1965 at 18:00 PDT By Justice Beamer in the Reno Courthouse. People from all over The Unite States were attempting to be married by the end of the day.
This year we will celebrate our 59th anniversary together with a great story and life together to tell. ☮

concerning the memorial shown in lee's video: as a european i have to say thanks a thousand times to all US-service men and to the fallen ones among them for having liberated europe in WW2. the sacrifices of the US were huge and i can't express in words how thankful i am for the consciousness and the courage you, the people of america, have showed when reacting to fascism and the holocaust in a overwhelming (D-day) and victorious manner. what would have happened, if the nazis were given free way to realize the europe of their dreams? i don't dare to think about it. this shall never happen again. not in europe and not anywhere else. thank you once more.

The Stage AE opened in early December of 2010 at a cost of 12 million dollars, with 2.5 million dollars coming from state taxes. The total space of the indoor venue is 22,00 square feet while the outdoor lawns total 30,000 square feet. The outdoor lawn can accommodate 5,500 people while the indoor venue can accommodate 2,400 people and inside The Club area can accommdate 400 people. Some of the notable performs who have performed at Stage AE include Alice Cooper, Dave Matthews, Girl Talk, Megadeth, The String Cheese Incident, Third Eye Blind, Neko Case, Nightwish, Marilyn Manson. WWE Wrestling and this evening Lyle Lovett and His Large Band. So, sit back and enjoy an evening of songs and storytelling that only Lyle can bring to life in his folksy style.

Hi Lee!! You and I are friends. We may have opposing positions on some things but I totally respect your right to your opinions and I am sure you respect mine. The Viet Nam war was simply awful! I spent a year there and thankfully made it back. That we lost 58,000 in that mess is unthinkable!!!! I tried to avoid all that after losing my college deferment but wasn't able to. I lost several high school friends there. Anyway Lee our love of music and our respect for each others beliefs and opinions will always come first for me!!! I have been working since I was 16, went to a University for a year and quit. I worked with combat vets in four Unions and three different wars. What I learned is the price paid is woven into their persona if not their souls. They are veterans in more ways than thought.

My uncle and my mother’s close brother fought in World War ll and was in D Day and never spoke of it. A few years before he died he talked to me privately and told detail that not anyone else in our family knew.
The burden he held could not ever be easily understood by many; they wanted to believe a legacy being told them. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder was not defined until 1980.
Sadly today there are 8 wars that are operational and being funded; the atrocity of what Israel is doing is yet to be even counted. We need to stop all war and use all our effort to control climate change before it may to late.
Over where the WW2 war memorial is, there is also a monument/memorial to Mr. Fred Rogers

My husband has survival guilt for surviving the war. He was shot ten times still has a bullet in him. It’s in a bone that can’t be removed. They say he’s Vietnamese now went back to DaNang his heart isn’t here so went back . Kind of sad his kids are here. We divorced but still care for each other. He was a player has a younger girlfriend. Oh well.

Thank you so much for sharing your discussion with Brad. I'm Canadian on the Michigan border and worked with a couple of draft dodgers, although I'm a bit younger. Older friends of mine used to go to Port Huron (by your favourite city Detroit) and chase women, and it was a really bad time even here. The entire Vietnam thing was poison, as is Gaza now. Thanks again for your honesty over your wool allergy, but you would have been welcome in little old Southwestern Ontario.
After your Columbus gig I dreamed this morning the state of Ohio required me to show up at work again to receive my disability check at 69 years old. That's why I moved to Thailand 24 years ago due to I couldn't afford the USA. First thing I saw today was your Phil tour "Always" post". Tough to type with tears in my eyes. Being able to go with the band to all the venues defiantly makes my day. Happy day from the mango farm.

I'm back again. (Oh god, this guy again?!) I've been enjoying these videos since I just happened upon one a few weeks ago. I love this stuff, what a great little series. One thing I keep thinking is that they all seem to be afternoon waiting for soundcheck, which is cool. On the other hand, though, I keep thinking that people see the whole thing when everything is ready to go. It would be really good if there was something different, which is showing everything leading to there, from opening the truck door and starting to load in, just to show people what an enormous amount of work it all is (and even with local stagehands helping, a load of work and long day).
Go back in time and you'll find some piano loading and unloading, etc. ;)

Even though this is nothing like some big arena tour, there is still a huge amount of work, and it would be nice to see something that really shows that for people to appreciate what a long day at work people have. (PS- If Lee happens to read this, I'm mildly curious, how many local stagehands do you have helping when you roll in?)

@@JohnEaganMediausually about 10 local hands working with our guys. We are not there for the load in and after the show we do a meet and greet and most of the work is done by the time we finish.
@@lelandsklar6363 Right, I figure you and the other band don't arrive inside until setup is about done. (I would be sleeping during load in if I was in the band!) A lot of stuff, but not like some shows. I'm guessing the tour isn't carrying your own lighting, and maybe the FOH speakers and amps are house systems or local hire? Contrast-a few years ago I was a local stagehand for a Trans Siberian Orchestra show. 19 trucks, morning call was 6 AM, load out finished around 2 AM I think. GAWD. Oh, and I was told it was 100+ local stagehands on top of a HUGE TSO crew. Madness! (Edit-Actually, on second thought, from what I see, you and the band probably set yourselves up, except the piano, although your setup probably takes about 10 minutes (small and simple good!).)

I have certain allergies, and laundry detergent is one of them.
I also have uncles, and other relatives who fought in World War 2, and in the Korean War. My uncles made it back from those wars. My grandfather was in World War 1, and in some other war before that, when he was still living in Galicia, which was by the Polish, and Ukrainan border, before he and his wife, and 3 of their children came to Canada, in the mid 1920s.
I still have relatives in Ukraine, and it's sad to see what's happening over there.
Ukrainan is part of my mixed Slavic ancestry.
My maternal grandfather, left Poland, before World War 1, and he came to North America, in 1914, because he knew things wouldn't be good if he remained in Poland.
There are certain wars, such as the Vietnam War, and I can't understand why it happened.

Both my maternal and paternal mother and father came from the same part of the world, I am a first American born with my extended family's living in Canada, South Africa, and parts unknown. An immigrant can't be choosy.
My fathers family was from Odessa and my mothers side is Polish.

By the way I'm just a few younger than you , and when it was my time to sweat it out , something new was introduced. The draft lottery. I think like this had existed before. Our birthdays were printed on ping pong balls and placed in a giant bingo machine. My older brothers birthday came up #68 and the following year my birthday came up #355. Neither us were drafted and we didn't join either. It wasn't the right or just war.

Lee, I was a conscientious objector during Nam. Three times I got orders to report for duty since my lottery number was 17. All three time they were cancelled - twice because I was appealing my denial of the CO and the third time Nixon brought the troops home, ended the war and the draft.

There are too many people around now that declare "Freedom of Speech" until you say something they don't agree with, then its "Shut up, you don't know what you're talking about!" We'd be much better served if we could have a conversation about issues and concerns and agree to disagree sometimes rather than try to silence and hate those that have a different point of view.

I want to say that you played the outdoor side of that venue a year or two ago. I remember you starting the walk through outside the last time and discovering the indoor portion. It started looking familiar when you were looking out the window where you found Brad.

Friend of mine who's 83 now served in Vietnam said his proudest achievement is that the guys who were under him all came home.
