Here's my review of the Siren Duke and safe to say I'm DONE with these books :''''')

So, Elise Kova's books aren't all for me, but I so admire her career as an indie author. Like, she's got a dedicated fanbase, she puts out soooooooo many books, and her books are translated in all kinds of languages. Girl is ROCKING IT.
Truly!!!
Agreeeee!
Definitely, doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy reading but kudos to the author for building her indie empire!
Yassss
I’ve got to Stan tbh 😭
ALSO, I PHYSICALLY SHED OUT OF MY OWN SKIN WHEN AN AUTHOR USES THE WORD 'PROBE' IN A SMUT SCENE. It's like, sis- WE ARE NOT AT A DR.'S OFFICE RN!!! 💀
the way i wanted to drop the book right then and there hahhahahha
My mind went somewhere completely different. I imagined a probiscus or something. 😅
Now, I'm just thinking of all the times that some people have used Drs &/or Nurses offices or whatever as the setting for certain smutty fantasies ... and/or all the times people have dropped the phrase "playing doctor" in reference to some kind of people's smutty exploration(s) of each other .... in the past. 😶 (Thanks, for those horror!flashbacks.😅😅🙃🤦♀️😂)👀 😅
I think, for me, 'probe' is a bit like the word 'moist' .. I totally get why it would not be everyone's cup of tea, but for some reason it kinda just doesn't really bother me personally in that same way at all. Lolll
A L I E N S !
english isn't my first language, so I didn't understand it watching the video... but then I've googled and oh my god😂
I want to see these three girls meet up for tea to discuss their magical arranged marriages
"So what's going on with your husband?"
"He won't let me look at him."
Im pretty sure this idea is a reference to Eros and Psyche. Psyche is told that she is going to marry a monster, but its actually Eros or "Cupid". He takes her as his bride but she is not allowed to see him at any point. Eventually she gets really curious and sneaks a peak, finding that he isnt a monster at all, but then his trust is broken and he leaves. She has to go through a series of trials to prove her love and win him back.

Oh same esp the part where she said her books are easy to read I gulped them down so fast as well
Her writing to me is between a pallet cleanser and a cheeseburger it serves it's purpose. It’s probably based on Eros and Psyche. Her sisters mistreated her (albeit, in most versions they only mistreat her after she marries Eros), Eros wouldn’t let her look at him (because she wasn’t supposed to know who he was/he was supposed to have killed her). She seems to like basing her stories on Greek Mythology
Edit: she just read the summary, I called it lol
whats the vampire lord story equivalent in greek myth?
@@adroitws1367 I’m not sure if there is one it’s based on? I’d have to rewatch the vid to know for sure. I’m most familiar with Greek mythology and it doesn’t remind me of anything there, but that doesn’t mean it’s not based mythology?
Worth mentioning that Eros was originally supposed to shoot Psyche with one of his arrows in order to make her fall in love with some horrible ugly monster because his mother, Aphrodite, was upset that people were saying Psyche was more beautiful than her.
Eros screwed up and accidentally jabbed himself with one of his arrows, falling in love with Psyche. So he took Psyche to be his wife, forbidding her from looking at him so he could make her think he was an ugly terrible monster and sorta kinda still follow his mom's orders.
As an author of 12+years myself, I appreciate the effort she puts out, but I am noticing that the speed with which she does write and release books often leads to a lot of sloppy, and easily avoided mistakes that could be fixed with more time. That being said, if it works for her then I'm happy an Indie author is doing well.
I could literally listen to you talk about books for hours!! You’re 100% my comfort CZcamsr!!

I'm guessing the first book, "the fae prince" one, is actually based on Eros and Psyche.

I’m so glad people are finding Elise Kova’s books! I’ve been reading her books for a while now. Loved the Air Awakens series. I liked Duel With the Vampire Lord because of the lore and curse of the Vampirs. I agree that Elise Kova kind of has a formula to her books. She definitely hits the main things, but they can be lacking sometimes. But still love her!
As soon as the fae guy said, "under no circumstances may you look upon me." I knew it was a Cupid and Psyche retelling.
As someone who *absorbed* your ACOTAR series, I absolutely love hearing your hot takes and honest opinions

NO NOT THE STRAY KIDS MOSQUITO FANFIC. I SAW THW COVER AND DID A DOUBLE TAKE LIKE “FELIX??”
I love how happy and excited you started out, and then by the end you were taking psychic damage...
On an unrelated note, your eyes are such a pretty colour!
I find it rather humorous that we now cringe at "forced marriages" but arrange marriages were a very real thing for women throughout history. My great aunt had an arranged marriage in the 1950s... its still very real in many cultures (even the U.S). I guess for me it would be more "real" if the woman didn't swoon fall in love with the man she was forced to marry but that she slowly respected him, found value in the marriage, etc and eventually came to love him. But that's not how steamy romance fantasy works.
Also, as far as her novels, please read the Loom Saga. It is a gaslamp fantasy that as a pretty cool magic system. The author actually just got the publishing rights back for the Loom Saga so she will be publishing a 2nd edition with new cover art.
Just a disclaimer that arranged marriages and forced marriages aren't the same thing. Forced marriages are absolutely wrong, goes against human rights. Arranged marriages between two consenting adults are perfectly fine. That said, it ain't for me personally, but I know many people who prefer it (arranged not forced lol).
@@sabihasayeed1670 Omg was about to add this.
@@aasha8759 same
Actually most arranged marriages are forced. Take a fundamentalist or evangelical for example. Many young and I mean very young like 14 and in rare cases 12 are put into forced marriages opps.. I mean arranged marriages. The most common is young women 16 plus. It isnt okay. Women should make the decision not their fathers. A good chunk of these marriages are abusive and some of the women get killed from the abuse. Sorry but I disagree. I am against polygamy, child marriage, and forced or arranged marriages. It is wrong.
@@miscalotastuff733 " Arranged marriages between two consenting adults are perfectly fine" - sabiya sayeed, literally in this comment thread. if its a forced marriage, it's not an arranged marriage lol "most arranged marriages are forced" is a contradictory statement.
The Deal with the Elf King description makes me think of Spinning Silver mixed with Uprooted by Naomi Novik.
Ooo the second books feels like it’s based on the Eros and Psyche myth! At least that first part you were talking about.
Edit: just got to the description part- nailed it lol
I was thinking the same thing lol
just starting the video, just found your channel, THIS IS A LONG VIDEO WITH CAPTIONS YOOOOO I'M SO PUMPED FOR THIS THANK YOU!!!!
The books are obviously not high literature (and don’t have to be) but I was absolutely flabbergasted by the logical issues in Elf King and Duel (haven’t read the second one). The entire premise of elf king is basically built on the MC not wanting to take up her magic role or whatever because she wants to help sick villagers who only get ill because she isn’t fulfilling her role.
It’s impressive how much the author is able to write and publish but this series could do with some more attentive writing and editing.
Thank you for the reminder that Duel with the Vampire Lord is out! I really enjoyed the first 2 books. Definitely preferred the 2nd book better than the 1st one. I'm excited to read the 3rd one.
Never heard of this series but the covers are so pretty 😍
Graphic Audio was giving away their version of “A Deal with the Elf King” audiobook for free to members a few months ago so I downloaded it and just got around to listening. The little advertisement said “if you love ACOTAR you’ll love this” but what they mean by that is that the voice cast is virtually the same. As soon as Prince Harrow showed up I was like “oh that’s Lucien!”
In the second book, Dance with the Fae Prince, the point of the girl not being able to look at the prince is based on/inspired by the story of Eros and Psyche, isn't it?
…I’m literally *about* to finish A Duel with the Vampire Lord & have read all of the others, I’m hyped for this!
Air Awakens was my first foray into Elise Kova & I went straight to Married to Magic afterwards
She has so many books i was SHOCKED
@@caricanread SAME! Btw I also felt the book was long, I think it definitely could’ve been shortened
LMAO NOT THE STRAY KIDS FF 😭
The description you gave of The Dance with the Fae Prince gives me Psyche and Eros vibes in that she has evil sisters/ stepsisters and psyche is forced to marry Eros who she's not allowed to see but a relationship develops and eventually gives in and looks at him

Tbh I listened to the first book on audible and there wasn’t actually that much of that, at least not until the very end. I just skipped through it when I could.
Over all it was kind of boring and pointless in my opinion. World building wasn’t the best. Main character was super inconsistent about how she felt about the situation and the elf king.
Elf king dude wasn’t even cute in my opinion, I didn’t love them as a couple.
I always enjoy your reading vlogs very much! I almost love them more when you don’t like the books and/or make fun of them 😅 I just started the Air Awakens Series, let’s see how I like it.

i love the way you speak and ur expressions, so entertaining to watch/listen to 🥰
if the elf king book was based on hades and persephone then I’m guessing the second book is based on eros and psyche (like she was not supposed to look at him because if she knew her husband was eros it would tip off aphrodite who had beef with psyche and had originally ordered eros to kill her. also I believe that psyche also had two sisters who hated her so like,,, yeah that myth might have been a source of inspiration for that book)
EDIT: nvm it’s actually mentioned in the goodreads review or whatever
Cari if you'd like a detective suggestion I really recommend Gentlemen & Players by Joanne Harris. It's a dark academia and i loved it so much! (i humbly consider myself having a taste in detectives)
I'm sitting in a Malazan Book of the Fallen induced stupor and watching this is so jarring remembering that such radically different fantasy books exist 😄
Lol, yeah Malazan breaks are a nice opportunity for easy palate cleansers like these books. 😂
Lol, I felt that
I've had the Malazan series on my to-read list for a bit now (brother's rec and told me a bit about it), but I don't know if I'm mentally and emotionally ready for what I know is going to be a very involved world and story. So instead I've been sticking with some good, not to deep, or long of a series, si-fi fantasy romance, but have just been choosing lemon after lemon. Maybe I need to just give up and go where I know it's good, but gosh-darnit I'm not ready for that world. Your comment just made me laugh because I've been thinking the same thing when I look on book lists of gr and such very different types of books all are in the same genre and list.
I enjoyed the first one, just because I crave easy to read (easy to put on GR Reading Challenge...) fantasy with no evident suffering and happy ending. I'm pretty much depressed, and this is like a hell-lot of mental vitamins and nice things and stuff. And also, I freaking love long-hair male characters :DDDDD (we don't have Married 3 in Spain, and I haven't read Married 2 yet...but I want to read it :D ).
I've just started Deal with the Elf King. I wanted a stand alone so much just to break from all the series. Ugh I JUST CAN'T keep going! It's so heavy handed, the total lack of any subtlety is painful.
Yep 😭😭😭
About the Fae Prince book! Though I didn’t read it myself, just from hearing you talk about it, it seems like an allusion to Greek myth of Psyche and Eros? Mostly the arranged marriage stuff and and Fae Prince ordering her not to look at him!
i love your reading vlogs!!! that's how i found you a while ago and i watched them all in like a day lol and of course by now im almost done watching all your vids
The loom saga was incredible. The best Elise Kova serie.
the whole “you’re not allowed to look at me” is definitely eros and psyche inspired
The second book with the Elf Prince sounds like retelling of the Cupid and Psyche myth…which if you want a stunning retelling of that myth read Til We Have Faces by C S Lewis. It’s one of my favorite books. It explores the myth from the viewpoint of of one of the “evil” sisters, so it definitely turns all the tropes inside out!
the "DON'T TURN AROUND DON'T LOKK AT ME" really made me think of Orpheus and Euridike's myth
Air Awakens is one of my absolute favorite Fantasy series!
I’m loving the Vortex series. I love her style it’s very easy to just eat it up. Now I have yet to get into the Married to Magic serie. I bought a bookish box with a special edition of Air Awakens and I’ll be doing an unboxing on it. 😁 I hope I enjoy the Vampire Lord I love a good vampire story. That’s the one I’m gonna pick up next.
Hahah, you mentioned the fairy mosquito and made me learn a new term, FOMO. Subscribed
I love how there are other people who also cannot read these cheesy synopses out loud without giggling but still enjoy the heck out of the books.
NO WAY!! I had no idea that you were going to make a full video on Kova’s whole Married to Magic series so far when I left that comment on your other video! Can’t wait to see everything you have to say, especially on A Duel with the Vampire Lord because…I ended up DNFing it. 😅 It just started to drag and I was like, “Ah, I think I’d rather read something else,” and I think that’s how I’m feeling with all her other future books in this series (have not even touched the Fae Prince one). I will say, though, that A Duel with the Vampire Lord definitely _feels_ a bit different from A Deal with the Elf King at least, like it has a much more gothic lean which I always love and did keep me engaged for a time! That could be why it got higher ratings too, just for having a different, more somber vibe. And because everybody loves vampires. 😆❤️
OH. I think I must’ve stopped before the plot turned to the smut, lol, dodged a bullet there looool. I lowkey take it back, maybe people also just liked this because it was steamier. 😅
Honestly, I love these books so much and haven't read Air Awakens yet but I think its also cause I really don't have to think too hard and know what I'm expecting. Though honestly, the vampire lord book was different than I expected. But also, I'm biased since I have signed copies of this series lol (it also helped get me back into reading as well so... soft spot for them!)
I think this is one of my first series with the "married to fae" trope and I really loved it but more for the books not the trope itself (I listened to the audiobook, that might have changed my experience). I still have to listen to Air Awakens, I'll do that by the end of the year for sure!!
I loved Deal with the Elf Kind and Duel with the Vampire Lord. The second book not so much because I pretty much guessed the entire plot by like the 3rd or 4th chapter. Also the 4th book isn't the last book in the series. Elise Kova said there were more books since lykins are mentioned so much in the 3rd book.
I read her books whenever I'm in a reading slump and need a quick read, lol. It's a weird love/hate relationship for me, because enemies-to-lovers and forced proximity are some of my favorite tropes. I really respect her as an indie author though and all the work she puts in! I want to support her to help her succeed.
So, this is the first video from your channel that i see, but i already love your style. It's super fun and entusiastic, and it's great to see some positive insight mixed with genuine criticism. Also the intermissions to show your progress are hilarious.
The fae prince one seems to be based on Eros and Psyche with the whole “you can live in my big house but never look at me”
Omg felix’s face on the mosquito 💀this is literally an ff of a STAY🥲
The dance with the far prince was modeled after the myth of Eros & Psyche - the mythological beauty & beast tale. I haven't read the book, but it sounds exactly the same.

I love 'so you don't have to' vlogs the most, especially if the series or book is one i'd never be interested in 😂
The fae prince one sounds suspiciously like the myth of Eros and psychy
Like that she was forced and that she’s not allowed to look at him

I'm just at 13:00 right now, but the "you're not allowed to look at me" reminds me of the psyche and eros myth. That plus like the sisters makes me think maybe it was inspired by that myth?
Lol. I'm thirty nine and single, never married, so this video has given me the only pickup line I need to use in my stage of life. "MARRY ME AND I WILL GIVE YOU SUCH STRONG BABIES" You know....as a joke...I think.... but I am 6'3", a fit 240lbs, and a fairly accomplished HEMA practitioner, so it is not an empty claim.
Why are you announcing this
You should probably also announce your birth weight with that because most of us are not interested emergency c-sections. (large men often = very big babies)
@@brittahasnofilter lol. Based on your screen name I think you know my type all too well.
@@kohakuaiko Your so right. As a person who will not be giving birth I hadn't had the thought. Large men, incuding me, are a major hazard in that way. My birth weight was 10lbs. My mother did not require a c section, but she has very wide hips, and is 5' 10" herself.
