Today is an easier day without any climbing and I use the opportunity to briefly talk about what I eat.

Small tip for you from someone who loooooves burritos (I probably make them 2 or 3 times per week if not more). If you only put one side on the pan or the grill or what not and use that as the inside of the burrito, it will still taste crunchy and grilled but they won't actually break :-)

P.S.: Your vlogs are really interesting, don't stress yourself too much out about it. As you said in an earlier vlog, be genuin rather than "overstaged-interesting"... The people who find you interesting (and inspiring) as a person, will stay and subscribe, and the drama-hungry won't (but I guess this wouldn't be the fanbase you tryna reach anyway...). All I'm trying to say here is, people who like your content for what it is, will stay, and with enough patience (I know that can be tough) the hard earned subs will follow. Continue doing what you're doing, that's what we're here for!
Wanted to comment the same thing. Just keep doing what you're doing Magnus! Vlogging is all about seeing the real, day-to-day life of someone. For you, right now, that's a lot training and climbing boulders repeatedly, which you may not think is the most interesting thing to show your subscribers, but I don't mind it at all. I don't expect your videos to be like a Game of Thrones episode...

I really like this! You don't see many climbers talking about food. My impression is that climbers generally don't pay much attention to nutrition. "Protein? What do I need that for? Isn't that for bodybuilders?" Climbers generally also don't pay much attention to general strength and conditioning training, nowhere close to what other groups of athletes do. Unfortunately. So these videos are really great. Make more of them, if you can. Bring in nutritionists and have discussions on nutrition for climbers. Bring in physiotherapists who specialize in sports medicine to talk about injury prevention for climbers. With the high quality that you already have on your videos, doing a few of those videos would really give a lot to your already amazing channel!
the reason they dont talk about it is because many climbers are essentially starving themselves to stay at a low bodyweight. It is the same problem in gymnastics. For the amount of activity Magnus does he eats barely anything. As someone who used to maintain a low bodyweight for calisthenics I understand the struggle and his diet looks pretty familiar. these guys dont want to talk about it because they dont want to give people eating disorders, but that is pretty much what it takes to maintain a low bodyweight unless you are naturally skinny.
jweber544 / Hanuman interesting. I’m naturally really tall and skinny, so I’m always looking for tips on how to eat enough food and gain muscle. I know magnus isn’t too tall, but it’s inspiring that he seems to have a casual diet and a very loose training schedule focused almost 100% on climbing and not doing much repetitive calisthenics or weight training that everyone talks about.
And the result is an insanely strong, lean and buff body. Proving that you don’t have to do muscle isolates weight training to have a well rounded strong body. That the “farmers body/strength” does exist
@@11219tt If you have a high metabolism then you have the opposite problem to Magnus. Magnus looks like he would naturally weigh about 80 kilos, not 72 or whatever he maintains through diet. Just watch the episode with his brother if you want a good comparison of what that might normally look like. As for "casual diet", his approach to diet, is pretty much to cut everything in half, so yeah that's not exactly casual or even healthy but whatever.
You want to gain muscle to look like magnus? first of all ask yourself what your real goal is. Do you want to be a great climber or do you want a physique? because if your goal is building muscle you can attain that goal much much faster in a gym. You can attain the physique most climbers have or better in a year of weight training, followed by a diet to get the ripped look. The reality is that climbing is not a fast way to gain a muscular physique, because most of climbing is about technique, i.e how you use your muscles rather than overloading them to grow. most climbers weigh in the 140 to 160 pound range and the only reason you know they have a good physique is because they are so lean, which comes from restrictive dieting.
As for well rounded strong body, climbers have a strong grip and are strong on pullups but they are ok pressers, weak squatters and weak dead lifters. so that means they cant pick up heavy things, cant lift heavy things over their head or lift heavy things on their backs. I dont know what you mean by farmers strength, farmers are as strong as their job requires. As someone who worked a physical labour job I can tell you most people in physical labour are skilled, but they arent strong. As someone who used to climb, I can tell you that a lot of climbers do weight train, even magnus does dips and pullups every now and then as you can see in his vids, and he does a lot of grip training. the reason I am typing such a lengthy response is because I too was young once and wanted to know if I could get a good body from climbing. the answer is you can, but if your goal is mostly to get a good body, rather than being a productive athlete, than you would be better off in a gym lifting weights. Lifting weights is what I switched to and I got strong and got a good body which is what I wanted. Ask yourself that question before you go buy your rock climbing shoes and a climbing gym membership. Finally I would point out that Magnus is genetically gifted, look around the climbing scene, few climbers have the kind of muscle that Magnus does, if he weight trained im sure he would have a great physique or could become a strong powerlifter and probably pretty quickly, which is why tom and juji were encouraging him to do a bodybuilding show/take up arm wrestling.
Lifting weights doesnt have to be repetitive, the most important thing at the end of the day is that you train hard, get your rest and eat enough to grow. that goes for any sport train hard, rest and eat enough to fuel yourself.
tips on how to eat more food? eat as much as you can and try to focus on calorically dense foods. what I mean by that is foods that have more calories compared to volume, i mean just think of the difference between eating an apple and 16 grams of peanut butter for example. you wanna be the guy eating the peanut butter because it has more calories and takes up less room in your stomach compared to the apple. Thats just one example, and you should still try and keep healthy stuff in your diet, but it is what it is you might have to eat some delicious stuff to gain weight (oh no :P)

As someone trying to be light for climbing this was very helpful. I'll do the opposite of what you said and start eatting more food with more volume like the apple instead of the peanut butter in your example. That being said how do I make sure not to go to the extreme of an eating disorder ? Seems like a fine line to thread. AlsoI love food and used to body build and loved that it let me eat as much as I could.
Nice job again! Good to see what you eat, I totally agree that eating the same kind of meals every day is really helpful in terms of staying consistent with a particular diet. When you do running, do you tend to do sprint intervals, longer runs or a mix? I'm guessing the main objective is just to build some conditioning and get the blood flowing for recovery.
Would love a macro break down because I spent the past year lifting and gaining wait but recently got into rock climbing. I’m bigger than the average rock climber but not bulky. ~170+ at 5’7. I don’t want to lose the progress I’ve made but also don’t want to make climbing harder than it already is

I remember it's definitely in one of them. At a rough guess I'd say it was somewhere in the #40 - #50 range. Might need to watch them all again from the beginning ;) I think it was just before or just after Magnus and Robin stopped collaborating, so you could maybe work it out from there.
