Saying this looks like Civ 5 is like saying every Moba looks like LoL or Dota...Just because it shares the same structure doesn't make it the same game.
Dominic Kennedy ik its not, that's why i quoted civ 5. some people think that if its the same genre they'll assume it to one thing. like FPS games for example "its just another call of duty" lol
you know it's a positive thing right? that it looks like "Civ 5" makes me more inclined to buy it.., also this preview gives me more insight. Either way i'll buy it when it releases.
I want it so much, looking so good. Dominions 4, Age of Wonders 3 and Warlock 2 can only sustain me for so long. Need more "fantasy" (-ish) 4x! PS. Warlords (1989) was more entertaining than Civilisation (1991) ever was, and Master of Magic (1994) is still, even today, one of the best games ever made.
i would love a great sci fi 4x game that was more like fantasy. I noticed the 4x genre on the fantasy side has been getting better and better - but the scifi side it has stagnated. No one seems to generate a scifi 4x game better than MOO 2. Even to this date, new games of scifi 4x will always say, "like MOO 2" and rarely are they that similar. Most miss several key points in the MOO 2 likeness or do not distinguished themselves enough to be that GREAT uber game.
BoydofZINJ I agree, there is a barrier when it comes to the sci fi 4x, they either try to stay to close to MoO 2 but or get way to clunky (Sword of the Stars 2 comes to mind). While there's much more open experimentation when it comes to the fantasy side, even if that too gets quite stuck it still has far more different options out there, specially recently with a big surge of games coming out. I also hope that the new XCOM and xenonauts will bring a new surge of experimentation to the old tactical strategy games (XCOM, Laser Squad) that often walked side by side along the old 4x games (MoO, Warlords, Master of Magic).
Endless Space was a great game and I loved it so much. The only downside of that game was that it really wasn't immersive. The combat was very dull and it felt like a 4X version of Eve. This game looks like it has a lot more immersion in it. Considering the great time I had with Endless Space given the said limitations, I have a feeling I will love this game.
OMG! I just revisited Endless space recently and got totally lost in it for hours AGAIN! And now, only few days after I finally freed myself from its grasp, this comes to sight... Oh my...
Isaac Intner Why? Civ5 aint got nothing on the oldschool. Do Masters of Magic or Master of Orion, maybe even Warlords (first couple) and the first Age of Wonders. All of them more fun and rewarding than the Civ-series of games.
Yeah, It's not like I suggested Dominions 4 or Dwarf Fortress. Which people should play, they're incredible games, but they're not exactly beginner friendly.
I've played Civ 5, and then this, and while I do love Civ 5, this game is also great and different enough. Biggest differences are: combat can be treated like a RTT game like Final Fantasy advanced, quests, one city per territory, unit customisation, and heroes with skill trees. At least for me, that makes it quite different from Civ 5.
I really like the look of this one. Reminds me of HeroScape or that one GW game based off of the warhammer fantasy univerese (I can't for the life of me remember it's name)
Endless space is one of the best 4x games made in eons... MINUS the combat. You either love it or hate it. I mostly liked it - but wish it was more MOO. I am hoping this team does well with this game!
+Matthias Joseph Thomas van Trigt I havent try Age of Wonders 3. I heard its good, I might get it later. So far, I've played this and CIV 5. I can say this one much more spectacular.
Great game but low quality video. You did manage to put 30 seconds of the same footage of in battle archers, while there are a millions things to show. Did you really play?
I'am huge CIV 5 fan and hardcore player but guys cmon... it's not a CIV 5 at all. This game makes me passioned to play it not only because it's familiar to CIV 5 but because it gives fresh look to strategy genre. IMHO developers that make such games as Endless Legend deserve to have to have respect because Strategy genre is almost dead our days.
Is this on STEAM yet? I have noticed a surge of GOOD and GREAT fantasy based 4x games. However, I also seen a decline of GOOD to GREAT Scifi 4x games. Endless Space was a GREAT 4x space game - but the combat left me wanting more like (you guessed it) MOO 2.
I think the graphics are fantastic! It has elevation, much more personality than Civs (since everyone keeps mentioning that) and a lot of different terrain types. Just beautiful
Comparing Endless Legend to Civ V is as absurd as comparing Beyond Earth to Endless Space. Sure, go ahead and evaluate games that haven't even been released yet if you want to. But I'm gonna be to busy enjoying all these great games.
Hello 4E fans! I'm new to the genre and just bought this game. Now, I only have one question: I run this game on the quality of Fantastic aka all the way, but the textures on the units still look like shit. Everything else looks beautiful except that. Help please!
Their site says it's pre alpha. Only a place holder so to speak. Personally I love it. I can't put my finger on why but I'd love it to stay this way :D (maybe add some details)
I hated Endless Space. Every battle was the same battle video played over and over. Endless Space was cheap game and I felt ripped off when I played it. This game looks good, but I'll pass because of Endless Space.
Erethas9999 At least with Civ, you can strategize to an extent, at least with Civ 5... The Endless Space combat system and the ship design system really killed it in my eyes, could have been much better had it bothered to have a bit more tactical gameplay and control and more diversity with ships. It was a good first attempt at a game though.
Drew Vasquez Yeah, agreed the was a lot of potential. But except for the partly missing strategizing the combat systems aren't realy different, you can just skip the cinematic battles in ES and you have the same kind of fight as in Civ5. But as already stated nice attempt, we can hope the learn from their mistakes, well Civ certainly did over the years why not ES? Give the next game a chance and don't hate it because of some gripes with ES.
You're an idiot. This only has a passing resemblance to Civ V and you're more than welcome to make that absurd determination AFTER you play EL. But we don't need your negativity in the community, anyway.
Devildogff I agree that they don't at all seem like the same game, but I don't think comparing two games in the same genre is in any way idiotic. Unless you were replying to a comment that got deleted or something.
Oh boo hoo. The civilization games set a standard but they are NOT the only civ style 4x games. Because this is a 4x with hexagonal spaces, it's automatically "exactly like civ 5"? This is pure blind ignorance.
Your comment is just lazy. You didn't bother noticing all of the elements that are very UNLIKE Civilization 5, did you? It's only like CIV V in that it has hexes and units. Otherwise, it's much different.
Saying this looks like Civ 5 is like saying every Moba looks like LoL or Dota...Just because it shares the same structure doesn't make it the same game.
Amen!
Just because it is similar to "civ 5" doesn't make it a bad thing
Its not even that similar, there is a lot of different things going on in this game, people seem to belive that hexagons is the main feature of Civ
Dominic Kennedy
ik its not, that's why i quoted civ 5. some people think that if its the same genre they'll assume it to one thing. like FPS games for example "its just another call of duty" lol
CIV is awesome
you know it's a positive thing right? that it looks like "Civ 5" makes me more inclined to buy it.., also this preview gives me more insight. Either way i'll buy it when it releases.

You forget the MoM-Clone Worlds of Magic
We need more games like this. Good.
This looks great. Nice review, obviously someone who enjoys their 4X TBS fix. Looking very much forward to getting my paws on this.
Finally! Some gameplay footage! So amped for this game :D
OMG! I just revisited Endless space recently and got totally lost in it for hours AGAIN! And now, only few days after I finally freed myself from its grasp, this comes to sight... Oh my...
The so much dislikes? this isn't even Civ 5 people >.>
i didnt know that civ 5 got its graphics shit on!
Lmao how inattentive are you IGN viewers? Didn't you hear him say this game is in an early alpha state?
You kiddin ? Civ 5 got nothin on this ... ... ... yo!
i have always liked the idea of 4x games, but could never actually get into any of them, id like to give this a go, looks good
Do civ 5 first
Isaac Intner Why? Civ5 aint got nothing on the oldschool. Do Masters of Magic or Master of Orion, maybe even Warlords (first couple) and the first Age of Wonders. All of them more fun and rewarding than the Civ-series of games.
F4R207 civ 5 is simpler and easier although its probably a worse game
Yeah, It's not like I suggested Dominions 4 or Dwarf Fortress. Which people should play, they're incredible games, but they're not exactly beginner friendly.
Jay Dee did you get into it?
This looks like Civ 5 but this game has better graphics and unlike Civ 5 this game is not a top down view....I probably would get this game....
CIV V: The cool, non-broken version...
This looks beautiful
Looks fantastic.
looks really good, its on my list!
I've played Civ 5, and then this, and while I do love Civ 5, this game is also great and different enough. This looks awesome! Mac release?
When will it be in early access on Steam ? It will buy it day one!!
Looks amazing as do all their games, I can't wait. Is there a proximate on the release date yet?
Thanks for that answer, I can't wait - Art design looks superb.
Out TODAY!
HunGARE Thank you, I bought it :D
Didn't it piss you off that all the battles in Endless Space were the same?
Endless Legend has been released a few days ago !! GO GET IT !!
this is really nice
When will it be avialable on Steam Early Access?
this looks allright I just have too many games to go through atm put this on the wishlist
Endless space is one of the best 4x games made in eons... MINUS the combat. You either love it or hate it. I mostly liked it - but wish it was more MOO. I am hoping this team does well with this game!
a good example of an early access game
Will this be PC only?
They did mention something about tablets a while ago, but I think it is PC exclusive. Don't quote me on that.
!!!!
But how does it distinguish itself from Age of Wonders 3?
+Matthias Joseph Thomas van Trigt I havent try Age of Wonders 3. I heard its good, I might get it later. So far, I've played this and CIV 5. I can say this one much more spectacular.
Great game but low quality video. You did manage to put 30 seconds of the same footage of in battle archers, while there are a millions things to show. Did you really play?
is it out yet?
Should be on Steam Early Access soon!
CIV 5 = Pandora First Contact = Endless Legend
this looks even better then AOW 3
SILENCE MORTAL!
game is out today
Now if only this was for Mac...
They look like Twi'Leks.
WHERES MY DAMN COMMAND AND CONQUER!!!??
"all people in the comments" Oh its a hex grid must be a civ 5 clone
+Favillion Bellarion (FAVILLION) Nope. Not "all", sir.
so age of wonders 3 but better?
Can you guys just say fucking civilization 5
It's not Civ 5 though, so no.
I'am huge CIV 5 fan and hardcore player but guys cmon... it's not a CIV 5 at all. 0:07 Endlessy lost in endless legend... what?
Is this on STEAM yet? I have noticed a surge of GOOD and GREAT fantasy based 4x games. However, I also seen a decline of GOOD to GREAT Scifi 4x games. Oh, god! The DUMB! They're making me blind!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHH!
This is early alpha people. It's no where near finished, so stop complaining about the graphics
I think the graphics are fantastic! It has elevation, much more personality than Civs (since everyone keeps mentioning that) and a lot of different terrain types. Just beautiful

Am I the only one who thinks of HeroScape when they see this? With the Hexagons everwhere?
Hello 4E fans! I'm new to the genre and just bought this game. Now, I only have one question: I run this game on the quality of Fantastic aka all the way, but the textures on the units still look like shit. Everything else looks beautiful except that. Help please!
+Autmar The Grand idk, unistall and install .
looks good, the terrain i dont like though.
Their site says it's pre alpha. Only a place holder so to speak. Personally I love it. I can't put my finger on why but I'd love it to stay this way :D (maybe add some details)
KalecAmagosh I thought their shitty stuipd tree drawings were hilarious and awesome. They should leave it in xD
I dont know whats worse really...IGN reviews or the people who take them seriously.
I can't believe people actually think this game has good graphics
I hated Endless Space. Every battle was the same battle video played over and over. Endless Space was cheap game and I felt ripped off when I played it. This game looks good, but I'll pass because of Endless Space.
Do you like Civ ?
I do, but I felt deceived by endless space with the graphics on the advertisements I watched before buying it.
Erethas9999 At least with Civ, you can strategize to an extent, at least with Civ 5... not remind CIV 5 at all
its civ 5, but with just the medieval stage. ide love to be proven wrong though as the game progresses.
They just showed the early game, it's supposed to have the same historical reach as a typical civ game.
Is Civ5 the only 4x game you've ever played? Then you have about 40 years of gaming history to catch up on.
Argh another turn based :// where all RTS games
I rather play Sid meir civ 5 than this shit
You're an idiot. This only has a passing resemblance to Civ V and you're more than welcome to make that absurd determination AFTER you play EL. But we don't need your negativity in the community, anyway.
Devildogff I agree that they don't at all seem like the same game, but I don't think comparing two games in the same genre is in any way idiotic. Unless you were replying to a comment that got deleted or something.
While Civ5 is a good game, it's not as deep as Civ4. This game is.
saborwolf whis game came from another chanra, might and amgic HEROES 9one of the best strategic games)
Mr. DarkTrollBoy CHANRA LMFAOOO.... you mean GENRE?
seriously... this looks exactly like civ 5. this is just lazy, id rather wait for civ beyond earth
Seriously, this doesn't look exactly like civ 5.
Oh boo hoo. The civilization games set a standard but they are NOT the only civ style 4x games. Because this is a 4x with hexagonal spaces, it's automatically "exactly like civ 5"? This is pure blind ignorance.

It's only like CIV V in that it has hexes and units. Otherwise, it's much different.
Devildogff Thank you. I don't know what it is about some people. I mean, Titanfall is an FPS with machines, so it's obviously a Half-Life clone.
No, this is not CIV 5, CIV 5 has pacific ways to win the game as well, setting it appart from all 4x games, this doesnt
Endless space was dull and generic, hope this game isnt the same.
im playing elderscrolls online, no time for this boring shit
Civilization V was boring ass bland shit with no depth selling parts of actual game for money as DLCs.
Most casual 4x ever.
