- On the way to Dikwella town, I stopped by this unique restaurant by the road. The shape of the restaurant grabbed my attention and wanted to have another lunch to try their food. The whole family is working in this boat and they showed the real hospitality of Sri Lanka - they were super kind to let me record and also enter their kitchen. The whole experience is in this video - enjoy it!

He charged 300/- for the Shawarma but didn’t want money for the rice and curry. Since you insisted he then asked for 500/- in total adding an extra 200/- for the rice and curry. However giving out extra cash to small businesses at a point the country is going through extreme hardship is a great gesture of yours.
I am so proud of this young man and the family.The way he is trying to stand on his feet is admirable.Big thank to david too.It is so sad none of the Local you tubers or any sri lankan tv chanels are showing this type of small business .
Local population too must help this type of business and buy things from them.The country needs more people like this young man.
What a kind gentleman, Simple restaurant but gigantic heart. This is what Sri Lanka is all about, No matter what religion you are in. If you go to a village regardless of your ethnicity they always try to feed. These people have less but has a bigger heart. It was a thoughtful gesture, and I'm tempted to visit this boat, which is run by a family, on my next trip. I believe no permanent structures were allowed on the beach following the tsunami, and I'm sure he came up with the concept while looking for an abandoned boat.

Friendly family. Sweet kids. Father was a bit nervous n shy. Maybe cos it is the first experience of having a stranger inside his kitchen. Especially a foreigner.
Regarding comments about the hygiene here. Pls note that for an unknown reason late March, April and May is the housefly season. (There are ways to chase them away) But we always have to adapt to our surroundings. That is how we get immune to certain diseases.
The way our country is going now with scarce food, power cuts etc we will have to expect water cuts in future. If so people will have to use outdoor privies like decades before. 🤭 Never complain about petty things. We should all have a high tolerance level.

I think he wants to say 300 for Shawarma & 200 for rice and curry, total 500 hundred. But there are miscommunication and total become 800..
As I see on his price chart, foods are cheap. So rice and curry must be 200 rupees..

Davud, This Boat Restaurant was an interesting stop in Dikwella. Very obliging host and family ❤. The crispy bread that you had is called 'Pappadam'. South Indians and Sri Lankans have it as a flavor enhancer for rice and curry. Some has Black Bepper, others have Cumin seeds mixed in the 'Urad dhal' batter, they are made in to circular forms and dried in the sun. . You may have started a new fad eating Pappadam with Dhal curry. 😜😂 Safe journeys to you. 🙏 Mano.

Those little gingerly sweets are really nice. Not ginger, but sesame. The crispy things are poppadom which are also sometimes fried as big whole rounds. They are made of a kind of gram flour and are often served with rice and curry.
