I saw him perform live in the mid-80’s in Orlando. Fabulous show. Got back stage after the show and chatted with him for about 1/2 hour. He was a truly nice guy who talked to me so nicely. I was a professional musician at the time. So we talked a lot about music. He autographed one of his earliest albums I had brought me. He also gave me a cassette tape of some recordings that he had made which had never been released. On the way home I listened to the cassette in my car. Fabulous stuff! I had given him my contact info as we said goodbye. To my surprise, I received a post card from him from another city in his tour schedule. A very kind, warm-hearted handwritten note. I still have all of these things which I will cherish until the day I die. Wonderful guy! Wonderful voice! I will never forget him.
Bobby Vee came to perform in Bangkok in the 80's.It was unfortunate that he had to deal with a bad promoter.I was glad to offer him friendship and consolation, but I think he had a very bad experience that he never came back to Thailand again.I just wanted him to know that he has many loyal fans n Thailand and I pray for his health.
I was in Minnesota, 13 years old, working on a farm outside Perley, the summer of 63, and Fargo-Moorhead station KUTT would play Bobby Vee endlessly. Little did I know that he was from the area. The Night has a Thousand Eyes is the first 45 I ever bought at home, in South Texas.
I grew up listening to him, my mother would play his music constantly, and thankful got a chance to see him live. RIP you will never be forgotten..........Like a Rubber Ball ...Keep on Bouncing back to you.....
One of my all time favourite songs, Bobby was the most talented of the teen idols of the early 60s and has a solid place in the history of popular music. He had, and still has, a great voice and had some great song writers behind him. Wonderful to see this clip which I believe is from a British pop film 'Just for fun'. I remember seeing the film on during the summer holidays when I was a teenager in the UK in the early 1980s. My Aunt saw Bobby on a tour of his to the UK in the 1960s, and had many of his hits on 7 inch singles. Bobby toured the UK as recently as 2011. Sad to hear he has Alzheimers, but it doesn't look like this is stopping him recording, and he has a wonderful family around him who share his love and talent of music.
This was made as a POP VIDEO - and was FEATURED in "Just For Fun" (along with a number of other great videos). Pop videos have been around since the earliest days of sound film, but their EXPOSURE has been erratic. First, they were shown in cinemas as shorts - then as "soundies" on early video jukeboxes (8mm sound film cartridges) from the late Thirties to the early Sixties - then occasionally on TV (but copyright difficulties made those airings rare) - and finally burst forth in the early Eighties as an ESSENTIAL by-product of record releases. The rest you probably know...
Yes, it's catchy, but it certainly does have a weird and creepy subtext... although let's just say if "the night had a thousand eyes" back in 1962, now, 60 years later, "the night has a MILLION eyes," meaning that all semblance of privacy or secrecy is long gone. We are all under surveillance 24 hours a day. You can forget getting away with those "little white lies."
So shocked when I learned about Bobby Vee's passing that I was unable to concentrate on anything else. My personal bests were this one, "Run To Him", & "Sharing You".
Oh absolutely. Sixties studio production was DYNAMIC. Impossible to reproduce on stage, TV or in movies. But the public expected the performances to sound as good!
I read a story that when Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Richie Valens died, Bobby Vee got his big break by filling in for them in a concert on the day the music died. Bobby Vee your music lives on.
I am RETIRED to Thailand - and I sympathise. A rampant bureaucracy, combined with institutional corruption has put the tin hat on a number of western business ventures here.
Per: www.oldiesmusic.com/news.htm Condolences to Bobby Vee, whose wife of 51 years, Karen, died Monday (August 3rd, 2015) at the age of 71... She underwent a lung transplant last year and Bobby himself is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease... May she R.I.P and may God bless and watch over Bobby...
Truly we will never see this time again these people had class and just a few short years we'd see Mick Jagger the rolling Stones and that idiot with the doors and the Beatles had suits at one time until they turned out to be weirdos very sad and we still haven't recovered from it people sing today and roll around on the ground they don't even sing they just make all kinds of stupid noises this generation will never ever experience what young people experienced in the 40s 50s 60s 70s and even '80s but this is about 1961 I was 6 years old
Are you also related to Ron Thue? He was the cousin of Bobby through his Finnish side. Ron's Dad was Norwegian. He was my history and geography teacher in 8th Grade, Williston, ND.
Join us Wednesday night at 7:00 eastern time for "Mama Lillie's Beach Party." We're playing tons of oldies and paying tribute to Teen Idol, Bobbie Vee. For more info, go to facebook.com/mamalillie.
Joe Dollinter Dunno. Back in the Eighties, I got a friend with access to a satellite channel I didn't have to record the movie this piece comes from. The perculiar stripe came WITH the recording. And I lost contact with him YEARS ago, so I cannot ask him about it. But since said stripe was not TOO intrusive, I uploaded this gem anyway.
Tell me, doesn't he look like Anthony Denison, from Major Crimes/The Closer? Or at least like he could be Tony's slightly older brother (Bobby would be a few years older than Tony, like about seven or eight)? Look at Denison in his thirties, in the show Crime Story (as Ray Luca) and you'll see what I mean. Could he be trying any harder to look like Bobby Vee?
I heard the song on the Carpenters' Now and Then album and it was announced by the "DJ" that it was Bobby Vee's biggest hits. It looks like he is lip synching.

Such a great song. Why can't they make good clean music like this anymore.
Yes, we seem to have lost that innocence. Today's world is not a black and white world, the good and the bad have been mixed in together.
I can listen to this all day long!
ME to
Me too, more than one time
RIP Bobby, a star who'll shine forever!
Rest in peace Bobby. We'll miss you. Thanks for the great legacy of song!
this is when male singers wore suits. He had a big hit with this one. And he looked really cute in that suit!
Yes he did, he was adorable. Love this song!
When music had longevity! Thanks for the gifts Bobby!
How true. Today's music belongs in a trash can.

Fell in love with Bobby at 12 - in 1978 - and have been a life long fan.

he was so cute! Great song!
Loved this song as a kid during the 50s revival in the 70s, but it really is disturbingly sinister. So I still love it.

Bless your memory Bobby.
2:00 Damn this bit is classic!
This got played to death on UK radio when I was a little boy in 1963. His last hit over here.
Oh absolutely. Sixties studio production was DYNAMIC. Impossible to reproduce on stage, TV or in movies. But the public expected the performances to sound as good!

Turns out bobby vee is a distant relative of mine on my mothers side.
He still owes me money.
Are you also related to Ron Thue? He was the cousin of Bobby through his Finnish side. Ron's Dad was Norwegian. He was my history and geography teacher in 8th Grade, Williston, ND.
John Lennon once said "face when we arrived on the music scene you were listening to Bobby Vee" also, he needs some additional dance moves!
Cute.
Boss song Baz huyton

Is that some sort of sound strip running down the right side of the screen and was this
a broadcasters test video?

Thanks for the info and thanks for sharing this priceless gem. JD
Is it possible the strip is the original sound-track?

I thought this song was by Bobby Vinton. Same? Why does he not look into the camera? Looks like he is reading the lyrics off a prompter, lol
It a proper proper sound video Baz huyton
Yet another worthy person to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but isn't. He's as every bit as good as Gene Pitney.
The speed is too fast... and the sound is over-modulated.
I heard the song on the Carpenters' Now and Then album and it was announced by the "DJ" that it was Bobby Vee's biggest hits. It looks like he is lip synching.
Yeah, but he did a great job of it.
He looks like a puppet. Lol
