I honestly think this is the most informative guide I’ve ever seen on CZcams 👌
Wow, thanks! 👍👍
Just brilliant, thank you. I have never attempted a belt replacement before, but it looks fairly process-driven, and your instructions certainly make it seem like something that I could do. Really appreciate the time you took to create this video.
You're welcome!👍👍
i think this is the best how to video to do a PD cambelt with torque settings and in plain English 👍
Thanks 👍👍👌
I have this exact same job on my to do list, thank you for making the job easier with your knowledge and expertise and of course 👍 for taking the time to upload this step by step tutorial
Thanks for watching! your comments much appreciated 👍👍
Absolutely briliant tutorial on "How to". I have done this job years ago on a 1980 Golf GTI and it seemed much less complicated, but I now have this job to do on and old passat TDI and having the checklist of what is needed has been invaluable. I have to remove the front of the car for that vehicle and want to make sure I have everything I need before I start.
Thank you for so expertly sharing your knowledge and experience.
👍👍 thanks , glad it will help
thank you for such a detailed video, helped me out much appreciated!!
This is the best resource I found for this job. Great job! Thanks for giving just the important info with none of the filler
You're very welcome!
Massively helpful. Thank you for taking the time to produce
You're very welcome!
the gardening can as a coolant funnel is the genius idea nobodys ever thought of.
Never been to service station 1960s!
I found your video really helpful when changing the belt on my 1.9tdi BXE engine as I brought locking tools that were suppose to fit however the crank lock didn’t fit in the correct place so by pinning the camshaft and using your video for reference point on the crank I got the timing perfect and engine runs great.
Thanks
nice one , glad to hear it 👍
Watching this jogged my memory must be 15 years ago or even more I remember doing my first belt on one of those bought the locking tools er took em back complaining that the crank sprocket one didn’t fit so bought a different brand same problem 😩turns out I was trying to drop the tool into place instead of sliding it IN 😂
👍 haha ive known it catch others out too! 😂 luckily I got shown first 🙌
Mulțumesc foarte profesionist.
Cheers Bud. Just done a full belt kit on my sdi Caddy. Your video really helped.
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment
Excellent job at explaining how to do this timing belt and water pump your camera work is great

Thanks for the detailed review
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastica guida, molto dettagliata, grazie e complimenti 👍
Just followed your video to complete this procedure on my old Audi A3. Very helpful, thanks a lot
PS - that engine mount bracket is a pig to get out
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment 👍👍
Thank you for the video posted on CZcams, it helped me a lot today my father Vw Golf 5 2008 1.9 PD TDI BLS engine code car control exchange. Greetings from Hungary👍
Glad it helped
Just done this on my mk4. Couldn’t for the life of me remove the engine mount with lifting and lowering the engine etc. Managed to remove and fit the new belt though, working around it. Nice vid, cheers.
👍 they can be awkward sometimes!
You made a lovely job of this video, I have done it before on a transporter ABL and on a SDI golf. But not recently, this is a very comprehensive video and well done!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the comment

Loving the videos where abouts is your garage.
Well explained step by step great video helping people out there who can do it themselves .. i have a question ..what technical data do you recommend for beginers ? many thanks
Thanks , we use all data but personally I’d recommend autodata
Great video. Thank you!

Great vidoe every step well explained in detail. Torgue specs for every bolt 👌
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the comment
The whole Job took me 3hrs on my A3 1.9tfi bls engine. Thanks again DIY Daly
@@Caliproductions24 glad to help 👍👍
Hi how come you didn’t change the idler pulley pine as well as the tensioner pine they came in the kit together are they both the same setting in the engine mate
Brilliant step by step video. Thank you. I need to replace my cambelt in my Fabia 1.9tdi PD. I'm presuming the process on the engine side is the same?
👍👍 yeah it will be mate
Hey, I wanted to adjust the torsion value but accidentaly unscrewed the screw in the middle of cam gear and then by trying to tighten it again, I moved the whole cam gear with the camshaft clockwise. Now, the torsion value is incorrect and I’ve moved the camshaft too. Lol. What should I do in this situation? I messed up. Total rookie with engines.
Your going to have to take the belt off and re pin everything in the correct timing position , basically follow the video but if you are unsure I’d advise getting a mechanic to do it
That engine bracket removal by jacking bkc high, tension adjustment feature plus bolt torque specs saves the day.
👍
Great jobs, Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
great information good job
Glad you liked it 👍👍
Чудесна работа!!!
Great video
Thanks!
Hi, Great video for doing this job! Would it be possible to add the part numbers of the bits that you replaced? ... I am thinking particularly of the bolrs that were replaced for the crank pulley and engine mounts, etc. I am looking for these on ebay/internet now and I don't have part numbers. Cheers !!!
👍 thanks , I only used the bolts that came in the kit .. I’m afraid I don’t have part numbers for the crank pulley or engine mount bolts, you’ll be ok to re use them 👍
Keep it up I love this tutorial
Thanks, will do!
Great video, i only have a very basic torque wrench so don’t understand how I would do the 45/90 degree last turns ?
you need a torque angle gauge mate ebay.us/tit3gs
best video for that, thanks!!! :)
You're welcome! Thanks
It is great video ❤🎉😊
Thank you! 😃
Nice video! Would this be the exact same procedure on a BLS engine code?🙏
Pretty much the same mate
Great video! I did my timing belt today using this video as guide. Very detailed and helpful tips. However, when I torqued my timing belt tensioner while the arrow in the centre, I spun the crank pulley twice and I noticed the arrow move all the way to right still within the gap, is this normal?
Yeah that’s completely normal mate .. it will move .. main thing is it was torqued correctly in the right position to start with
If resetting the timing can you back the tensioner off and then re tension or do you have to use a new tensioner ? Great informative video thanks
No you can retention
Legend
Does the torsion values need reset after this? Closest to "0" for injection timing I've read.
Not really tbh , I’ve found it to be set at various places when I’ve checked in the past, it’s always best to use the locking tools then you know it’s bang on right.. I’d only look to check / adjust the torsion value if you are getting very poor MPG after
In 2016 I worked for a shop in Pasadena, California that had a real asshole of an owner. A customer's wife had always loved the Audi TT and they bought a used front wheel drive TT. The owner changed timing belt but shortly after the new timing belt broke so the car came back. He then passed the job to me, head off and a valve job, reinstall head and new timing belt. Shortly after we luckily caught the belt starting to get chewed up and changed it. Again a little later, the same thing. The belt was being pushed off the cam gear and once the belt edge came off the gear it didn't take long for it to get chewed up. As I installed the third or fourth cam belt I finally noticed a large washer between the tensioner and the block which I could not find in any schematics. I went and asked the shop owner, who had done the first belt change, why he put this washer there and if it was there when he did the first belt change. He just said he didn't know the answer to either question, as if he deliberately put it there to fuck with the customer. After NOT installing this washer everything was fine but now the poor lady had lost ALL confidence in this car and didn't love it anymore. I remember tha pain of wrestling that engine mount out and in on every one of these jobs.
Yep, getting that engine mount out and back in always seems impossible for me for around half an hour 😄.
I also need to replace timing kit I my 2006 skoda Octavia 1.9 tdi diesel alh 5 speed manual clocked 100k on odo. Is it 142 teeth belt?
Which is good, INA, conti, dayco?
Thanks friend.
Gates ina or Conti I’d recommend
Is this the same process for the caddy 1.9tdi engine, im thinking of attempting myself
Yeah should be very similar mate
What cordless rachet are you using im after one and I want a powerful one
Milwaukee 3/8 battery ratchet - ebay.us/BZZqQG
Thank you for making this video, it has helped immensely, although I am still having some trouble fitting the belt on. I am able to get the belt around all the required points but cannot do so while the tensioner retaining clip is located in its hole. If I locate the tensioner first, then I do not have enough slack to go around the water pump. With the belt on, It does feel as though there is more slack than there should be on the water pump side. How do I bring that slack over towards the tensioner?
Yes they can be quite tight! It’s has to explain in writing.. it’s because of the lip on the tensioner .. you can try fitting it with the tensioner not fully located and slide it all in together but just make sure it’s definelty located correctly after! If you’ve slackened the top pulley it should be abit easier .. just turn it further to the right put the belt into the teeth then oh can twist the pulley to the left to tighten the belt on the rh side.. if that makes sense
@@diydaly Hi mate, thanks again for your input. Ended up leaving it on the sprockets over night, came back in the morning and the tensioner pin slipped right in!
@@diydaly So far so good, although after installing everything and tightening up the 3 cam sprocket bolts, I removed the crank and cam locking tools. Now, 2 rotations later, they tools will not simultaneously go in. The engine turns over fine by hand, as it did before. Do you have any advice?
@@renegadesnarez3478 when u say they won’t go in can u see how far out the mark is? You may need to slacken the tensioner and re pin it if it’s too far out.. sometimes you can literally be the tiniest bit out
@@diydaly I think I can see the pin hole in the elongated hole. It seems to be a matter of millimeters. I was thinking to lock the crank and loosen the 3 sprocket bolts, and then turn the centre cam bolt to align the locking holes. At this point i would re-insert the cam lock, tension the belt towards the tensioner side with the counterhold tool, and then finally do up the 3 sprocket bolts. Does this sound like a good method? Surely this would allow both locking holes to line up following 2 rotations?
amazing video its a shame i started on the job and my ryobi impact doesn't have enough juice to undo the engine mounts xD
👍
Great job. How long did it take you to do this job ?
Thanks , Around 2.5 - 3 hours
Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI BXE engine. Looks to be similar but are those torque settings same for that? Or should I buy erwin for a day to confirm? It is the same engine code.
Would Be the same tbh but always worth a check to be 100% sure!
Do the engine mount bolts really have to be replaced?
@@veikkovahasoyrinki3200 no I reuse them
@@diydaly ok. Ever had any problems? The manual says that replace and I have read horror storied of the motor mount bolts breaking and dropping the engine. Not sure if I should replace them or not. It is extra 50€
@@veikkovahasoyrinki3200 neh I’ve never had any problems mate , fine if
You torque them correctly 👍👍
Hi is this the cam belt or fan / serpentine belt as I noticed you was saying cam belt but the garage told me it’s my fan belt that’s gone they won’t do cam belts as it’s like a few hours job but evidentially you’ve (I know you’re a mechanic) have done it in considerably less time so it’s left me wondering which belt this is ?
This is the cambelt.. the fan belt is the smaller belt that I take of first
@@diydaly great thank you was starting to think I had bitten if more than I can chew watching this video but the fan belt is no problem :)
Hi, what's the size of the tensioner stud ...is it 8 mm ? .
Yeah
Mines just snapped will they be valve and piston damage as garage saying they isn’t any they can see
Hard to say tbh mate , there’s a chance it might not
Ghee, those front tyres are thrashed. Old spooly boy burnouts, I see. Haha
Is it required change water pump if is the timing belt wrong?
I’d always change the pump at the same time
besides the engine mounting ....Everything else was a doddle ...Thanks
