100%, when you look at the stupid driver aids....
Lane keep assist - So you cannot stay in your lane?????
Blind spot assist - So you cannot be arsed to look?????
Automatic emergency braking - So you didn't see what was right in front of you????
Adaptive cruise control - So you have no idea how far away the car in front is or understand speed and distance?????
Automatic parking assistance - So you cannot park????
Are we turning cars in the Microsoft of the motoring world. Make everything for the most stupid and incompetent driver.

If Tesla says that the problem is due to the Chinese hardware, then how does an "over the air update" repair the hardware?

    • @Jeddin
      @Jeddin Před měsícem +10

Exactly the right question that should make you investigate deeper . Because the reporting on this issue is all word-of-mouth inaccurate and just being passed along with more and more misinformation. The actual issue has nothing to do with hoods flying open due to hardware failure . The actual issue is that when drivers forget to latch the front hood (bonnet) the Tesla software did not signal to the driver that the front hood was open. This over the air patch was put in to restore that functionality. Plenty of vehicles do not signal you that you left the hood open but the Tesla did have that functionality, and it was a bug that it was lost, and that notification function was restored over the air.

My 2004 MG TF160 has its bonnet opener in the boot. It is a cable. You pull it and the bonnet opens. It is quite a long cable and can stretch, so every 10 years or so you may need to adjust it. Easier than wiring a 13 amp plug! If the bonnet doesn't close properly, it wobbles on its stay and makes a noise. You then remove yourself from the car and push the bonnet fully down. Job done, no electrics, no fuss, just common sense...

US cars may not be great, but historically, they were easy to repair, inexpensive to buy and own, well suited to US roads, fit for purpose, and reasonably stylish.
European cars are better suited to european roads, but european roads were generally not well suited to travel. Some european cars were easy to maintain, but those days are gone. ost european cars were underpowered as a compromise to fuel efficiency. And, when sold in America, the european cars are way overpriced and very expensive to maintain (few dealers, unavailability of parts, few standard parts, and even fewer aftermarket parts in the US). In europe, presumably their cars are less expensive to buy and maintain and American cars are expensive to buy and maintain.
The one thing that is universal is that the Japanese have done the best job of making nice, well built, long lasting, reliable, low cost of ownership cars.
The Germans make really expensive cars that are finicky. The French make some pretty decent cars. The English and Italians make very stylish, but totally crap cars.

You are factually incorrect. Tesla does pre-test before launch in cold and hot climates. The issue during last winter's cold snap was due to some charging stations not changing the charger coolant to winter grade fluid - just the same as making sure you have anti-freeze in a petrol car radiator. I would rather be stuck in a blizzard miles from anywhere in a fully charged Tesla than a car with a full tank of fuel. I would be more likely to survive the cold for many hours - tested & proven fact.

A software recall is in no way less serious. Either way it means something is potentially dangerous, only with a physical issue- chaffing wire harness, weak bolts etc- there is usually an obvious and easily verifiable fix. Faulty software is a lot more ambiguous- it can be easy to fix one problem and create more, especially with things like self driving- with no real way to fully test it.

It doesn't matter whether it's an OTA update, it's still a recall if it's safety related. Being able to update the firmware by OTA simply encourages car makers to release cars with flaky firmware, instead of thoroughly testing it before unleashing it on customers.

So to answer your question: clearly people don't have the intelligence to use their eyes to tell them that something is wrong 🤣
At least on a positive note, for the bonnet latch issue they are getting a recall unlike Renault when their bonnet latches failed on their cars going down the motorway and would fold back on the windscreen.
Just for clarity I'm not a Tesla owner or fan boy but I would say pretty much every car on the road today has parts made in China now, so I can't see anything changing, anytime soon😭

My 2007 Mercury has no problem letting me know if any of the doors or the trunk is not properly latch, I guess those simply switches with no software involved just keep on working. As for the hood the simple mechanical latch with the simple mechanical back up seems to hold the hood closed just fine or at least it has for 16 years. When the hood is closed there a very satisfying bang that tells me I have shut completely and so far it has never popped open. I suppose Tesla owners could get a good long bungee cord or ratchet strap that reaches from fender well to fender well to help secure the hood. There will likely be more heart attacks and such at Tesla plants as the stress of worry when the email telling people they are laid off takes its toll.
On a happier note Ford has decided otherwise to convert one of their plants I Canada over to building electric cars and will instead build F250s and F 350s. Seems they can’t keep up with the demand for these large gasoline and diesel powered trucks.
