Proper, external active is the only way to go to eradicate the multitude of woeful effects of passive crossovers. If / when the big money comes, I will splurge on a pair of Jeff Rowland amps. But for now I found a preowned Schiit Modi 3 dac for $88. I'm not sophisticated enough to notice it's relatively inferior sound compared to what real people have. Also super happy with my newest piece, a 33 year old Adcom GFA 535 II power amp. Got it hooked up a couple days ago. Very satisfying loud punchy sound from the Pioneer BS-22 speakers. A brand new Nobsound solid state class A preamp sounds better than it should for $200.

You don't need a preamp to play analog, you can run the analog to the Pinot which will convert it to digital and then glass fiber to the MPD-8. I've done it a couple of times and can't tell it has been converted to digital, but analog is a hassle. You really need the MPT-8, digital from the transport is often better than the stream.
@JAGDesigns, Pinot is an A to D converter that converts analog to DSDx4 and MPD-8 is a DAC that converts DSDx4 back to Analog. It's a perfect solution to add Analog to my rig without an Analog preamp being required. Playback Designs is the company. Made in USA. Same DAC in this video.
One thing for sure, this system is "inimitable" (impossible to duplicate): discontinued streamer > via fibre-optics > into Dac that costs more then my entire system > into custom EQ > into power amp or integrated that each cost more than my entire system > into custom panel speaker or floorstander that each cost more than my entire system... :)
The cost does not make it inimitable. Absolutely not. The streamer has a replacement, I just don't have it yet. And as your "HiFi Guy" channel, I BETTER have a World Class rig or I'm just like another dude with a 5K system. In other words I can't speak from any level of experience. Make sense ?
@@OCDHIFiGuy Indeed a 5k system will impress no one. I was getting more at the point that the system with custom EQ and custom speakers is hard to replicate. But the new system based on Rowland integrated amp and Vienna Acoustic speakers which are stock products, seems more achievable.

You can hear and distinguish the differences in the performance (speed, attack, recovery, tonality, micro, macro, and spacial details). You can compare sytems and go up the tiers and hear differences either pleasing or not. Now whether it's worth it or not, that's entirely up to the individual considering the purchase. You will hit a wall at some point, but most times fleshing out those little nuances make the performances more pleasurable. And that's basically what this hobby is.
@Chris Ulmer. Come visit brother. You never knew audio gear was capable of what happens in my room. This is 23 years building a rig by an OCD Audiophile that has built rigs for others as my ONLY source of income the last 23 years. Come learn...
Kowinaida San, There is no process of "ditching" anything. This is a HiFi Channel and the only thing I refer to. Don't buy stereo gear marked "Made in China". It's EASY.
@OCD HI-Fi Guy So why would you keep other items that are made in China? If you choose to not buy or stock Hi Fi components that are made in China due to your principles then why would you keep devices & appliances that are made in China?

Thanks Thomas. I've tried it all. I've got an open account with McMaster, Grainger,Digikey, Mouser and I've gone bonkers trying everything. Live Vibe is my choice. It sounds best to me. However not everyone can afford it So the products you mention are industrial and meant to keep heavy machines from moving on the floor via mechanical decoupling. I prefer mechanical coupling. The exact opposite. The results are better for Audio gear which is micro vibration.
@@OCDHIFiGuy That is correct they are made for just that, but the properties of vibration are the properties of vibration, no matter the source. And they aren't $126856.00. To "couple" something I have always thought that you need something to couple to that has the desired characteristics of being of large mass and inert? To me that means the floor must be much greater mass than everything on it and inert. That rules out 95% of peoples listening rooms. 8" to 12" of cement floor should do it? So when you tried these what were your results?
@Thomas Althouse there's a whole DIY group of enthusiasts for those with budgetary concerns of the couple thousand buck type. The Live Vibe stands are meant to couple to the Earth. We tunnel out cores 8 foot into the earth that feed up through the floor to ground our racks properly. ;-) just kidding. It is actually done that way in some peoples homes with stronger desire for Earth coupling than mine. But I'm on a 20 foot by 25 foot concrete slab on the Earth. That's good enough for me. Rubber "isolation" is not isolation at all. It's inefficient coupling. Zero gravity is the only true isolation. So anything short of stiff material is SLOW in its coupling. Rubber sounds fat to me. Brass is the most resonant metal, it's why cymbals and bells are made of it. So it's the best at moving/sinking micro vibration. Try it under your console and screenshot your pro tools response before and after. Compare that with Rubber. You'll see what I'm getting at.
@@OCDHIFiGuy I measure everything in a life long pursuit of finding cause and effect relationships and scale. Console? I got rid of a console and large summing mixer about 15 years ago. The listening area is as free of reflective surfaces as I can get it and consoles are a disaster for complicated reflections. Have you read Bob Katz's paper from when he did his experiments and measurements? I remember my years at GE with 80 Ton punch presses resting on 25 feet of rebar reinforced concrete that was sitting in tunnels of compacted gravel. Rows and rows of them all sitting on a cushion, not on bedrock. What frequency or frequencies are you trying to isolate (not conduct and add to the original)? Does any of the structure have a natural frequency that will create noise? If you're making music, a round brass disc might be great for percussion? Most of it sounds a lot like speaker cabinet challenges? All interesting.
@Thomas Althouse I've said "micro vibrations" a few times above and that's totally different than large machines which MUST be on rubber and or otherwise forgiving surfaces. Audio has different requirements. We want transformer AC vibration as well as high frequency resonances drained out of the chassis. Call Robert at Live Vibe Audio for the scientific discussion. This is where I hand the baton off to the Expert. I'm just a dumb sales guy.. ;-) 😉
We had to fix his plans and wiring diagram. Could just be he's just absent minded... but to me that was an irresponsible mistake and so he's not high on my list...
Lemme see if I get this straight. Your principles preclude you from using Chinese made equipment, but not selling it to someone else for money? Principle would dictate that you'd throw it into a garbage can, or tossing it into closet. I guess everything has a price tag.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't deal with Chinese products. The gr research is a kit and he is getting rid of it so there's no Chinese products in his system.
@@Phloored There was that black Chinese made doohickey on the floor in the back of the room that "has been sold." "Getting rid of" and "selling" are two different things. Seems to me the former implies principle, the latter commerce.
@@redrustler1 true. However it your stated intention is to not own Chinese made audio grear you should sell yours not give it away or destroy it. Seems like a waste. You sell it and proceed to support the companies you choose. That's how i see it.
Why would he throw money into the bin? Are you moronic? If you actually used the little matter you have in your skull, you will realise that the gear is already made! Already produced and is now redundant to your argument. It's like not liking fur coats anymore and not buying or selling animal fur. But your wouldn't be wasteful and set them on fire in a pit. You would use them , sell them to the needy. So cmon! Stop taking a dig. You're clearly bating mike. You have two choices in life Be a moron Or Don't be a moron
LOL @redrustler1, is your intent to "Expose" my hustle ? 🤣 what is a Doohickey? Use proper terms my man so I can address it. I've got 2 Made in China Danny Ritchie subs I'm eliminating. Yes, that includes me selling 4 pieces that I bought from a USA manufacturer with a GR label on it. Found out they were Chinese after receiving them. What's in your system ?
Ok…I’ll click your bait here. I can respect your concern to prioritize US products/companies. But have to say that great audio engineering happens all over the globe (and should be supported regardless). If it’s well designed and built, it’s well designed and built. Don’t blame or put down great engineers for where they grow up and and/or reside. Also, can you honestly point to every single component, wire and circuit (heck even discrete circuit) in your “rig” and truthfully say made in USA? ✌️
Mikey, if your principles are so strong, take the Chinese stuff out of your rig right now and do without until you find a replacement. And don’t further promote it by selling it. Take it out back and burn it. Live up to your principles.
@Green Beginner.... lol. What a dorky reply. I've got people asking me to sell it to them... why refuse $5500 ?? Plus my boy, it was bought from an American Company and is labeled from that American company. I discovered it was made there after asking them directly. You want me to burn it ? Lemme guess, you're from Los Angeles ? New York City ? Chicago? Portland ? Sorry bro, I'm not a Burner...
@@OCDHIFiGuy Mikey, your passion and dedication for high-end audio keeps me coming back. There are others that also reach for the stars (maybe Jay’s Audio Lab), but your enthusiasm tops them all. And your actions match your dedication. Who else has gone through the costly process to have a truly balanced crossover designed to your specifications? So when you repeatedly speak of your principles and how they have driven you to a conclusion regarding Chinese-sourced products, I assumed that your dedication would turn into action despite the cost. Instead, it appears to be so much talk with only the most convenient action. All symbolism and no substance. I’ve spoken my piece. I won’t bring it up again.
@Green Beginner lol. It was bought from a USA company BEFORE I stopped offering Chinese options for HiFi. Remember, I was the SOLE USA IMPORTER for Denafrips Terminator, Jay's Audio Lab, and Kinki Studio. Those actually came shipped from China. The kits I speak of here were purchased from Danny Ritchie in TX, and the cabs were custom made by me here in Georgia. So these sub towers have benefitted USA companies twice and now a third time. I've got someone begging me to purchase them. To burn them in my back yard is an assenine thought. That would mean I'd need to burn LOTS of shit in my house. You are taking my point of not offering HiFi product stamped "made in China" to a ridiculous level.
with all due respect, lecturing people in every other video and having GR research subwoofers with parts from china in your reference system for quite some time is simply hypocritical
Check out a few recording studio's and then the credits on your top 20 recordings that you listen to. How many haven't been taken through a digital medium?
Exactly Thomas. These guys are clueless. Every professional engineer laughs at the idea of recording/mastering/editing in Analog... bottom line is Signalfixer has never heard World Class digital gear.
@@OCDHIFiGuy My brother has a studio, the 2 inch tape machine sits in the corner. It's all done digitally in Pro Tools. It's all about the song, performance, equipment (mics, pre amps, outboard gear) recording (proper placement of mics) mixing and mastering. The analog part is the mics, pre amps and if you are fortunate a vintage Neve console, and analog processing gear.
Just as a small point I have head very quality digital sources but if you look at a lot of the earlier Vinyl OG Recordings like Bluenote Jazz Lps and Verve Columbia etc. They we analog sources a lot and they sound like a different world literally. Got it hooked up a couple days ago. Very satisfying loud punchy sound from the Pioneer BS-22 speakers. A brand new Nobsound solid state class A preamp sounds better than it should for $200.

@@OCDHIFiGuy Different strokes, I play the videos back at 1.75X because I have other stuff to do also!
Cab you elaborate. I don't understand what the components are. Instead of names can you state what function they represent?
What’s a Pinot? What’s an MPD-8? Please elaborate and ignore my ignorance.
@@jagdesigns4566 As I read just the other day … Playback Design have some of their pricier DAC‘s named after wine grapes…so „Pinot“ is one of those
@Chuck Moore, good point... that escaped me as an everyday solution. Shows you about the priority I give Analog. 😉

Let the Market tell the story because at the end of the day it does.
I control MY market and what happens in it. So yes..
dude... 35k to 100k.??? My understanding is that physiologically you cannot hear it. Can you address how/why this makes things worth the time/money.
LOL @Joan Fredrick I make and sell my own risers. My rig is to the point risers don't matter. It will blow your ass away regardless

The principles of ditching anything made in China will have to include other products such as your cell phone, laptop, TV, appliances, etc...
Buy 8 of these and try them.

So the products you mention are industrial and meant to keep heavy machines from moving on the floor via mechanical decoupling. I prefer mechanical coupling. The exact opposite. The results are better for Audio gear which is micro vibration.
@@OCDHIFiGuy
That is correct they are made for just that, but the properties of vibration are the properties of vibration, no matter the source.
I'm just a dumb sales guy.. ;-) 😉

The products are Chinese, but the currency is made in the USA😉🤷
Good grief.

@@OCDHIFiGuy ss brap p p!
That being said at high sampling rate digital source can be good but if your system cannot tell the difference then maybe it's your system sometimes.
