    Thanks so much for all your efforts. Recently purchased my first Mercedes, a '99 clk 320 coupe, and your videos are a great help. First time I've ever done an oil change via the dipstick extraction method & didn't have to get my hands dirty!
    I'm lucky in that the one I purchased, even though it has 200k km, was babied & never winter driven. I'm saving all your W208 related videos for future reference.

      One of the prettiest cars ever designed in my opinion. Bentley Continental GT is almost a dead on copy of the clk design :)

    Ive done this job on my w210. Removing tire gives you more room,more light and better leverage to position everyrhing. Great videos you do my friend. Im thinking about engine mounts next.

      Ilia Khintibidze Yes it is certainly easier with the wheel off... I was trying to show that it could be done with it on.. But I think it is kind of pointless, unless you are in a really lazy mood :)

    Hey buddy. Make sure that if you're having a day, to double your safety procedures, like adding a tire chock when it is jacked up and you are under it. Just an example. We don't want anyone getting hurt! Thanks for the video.

    My ford has 268xxx and didn't need to swap out any suspension components yet expect for front ball joints

  • @jakesmbforeigncarrepair1032

    Hey question again about the 202...How long is the suspension good for on the C-class? I went through the service records on my car, no suspension components have been replaced so far and it's at almost 120,000 miles. Would you recommend a rebuild yet on the front suspension?

    230k km? My 2002 C208 CLK430 has 205k MILES (something like 330k km or something) and it’s just now having noticeable excess body roll from the suspension.
    It’s incredible how these Pre-2003 Mercs are built to last. Even in the early years of DaimlerChrysler, Mercedes-Benz still was easily the best.

    how far should the nut be tightened? I replaced my shocks but I don't know how to tighten the top nut, should it touch the removable metal sleeve that is put on the shock axis or no? my new shocks came with shorter metal sleeves but nevertheless I managed to tighten the top nuts so hard that there was huge noise coming from the rear suspension... I loosend the nuts so that there is no thread above them and I think the noise is gone but I still wonder how far shoud they be tightened?

    hi fupabox, thanks for all your great videos, should the car be lowered before tightening the top bolts? cheers

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 9 lety

      The top bolt yes.. you can tighten it a bit , but do the final tightening on the ground.. the lower bolt can be torqued to spec off the ground

    I have done mine today on my W208 320 CLK. Since putting the new ones in my car makes a kind of knock noise when going over bumps. I am wondering if I have over tightened the top bolts as I put them on super tight. Is it possible to over tighten the top bolts?
    Thanks in advance for any advice.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 4 lety +1

      yup..possibly a bit too tight . with the weight on the wheels the rubber should just start to compress.and squish out at the sides

    Do you have any comments on Monroe vs Boge vs Sachs vs Bilstein shocks (and struts up front for w203)?
    Thanks!

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety +1

      Monroes just seem a bit more compliant to me..with solid lower control arm bushings I worried about the Bilsteins,Boge being too firm...I have seen many original Bilsteins at 200k + km still in good condition, I have doubts the Monroes would last that long

      @LuisHernandez-ep8bb Před 9 lety

      +lakeisha farall you can use you jack under the control arm. I placed jack below control arm and jack it up a little then removed shock and control arm bolts and slowly lowered the jack to easily remove the shock and spring

    the monroe struts give a better ride quality i currently have the bilstein not sure if they have been replaced but i can feel every pot hole on the streets i mean everything

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 7 lety +1

      I'm happy with the ride of the Monroes.. very smooth oer bumps, and not as harsh as the originals, but they were worn out so I can't say how they were when newer

    Can u convert a self leveling system to regular shock absorb system

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 7 lety

      if your car model had a version with no self leveling , you can usually swap in the non leveling parts...if all versions had self leveling then you would need to find an aftermarket alterbative

      Thank you! My W203 makes clunking noises when I drive on bumps. I'm not sure if it's just bad bushing or the suspension struts need to be changed. Could bad bushing be the problem?

    • @fupabox

      daimasongoodspeed it could be bushings, shocks, ball joints.. any one of them

  • @kunalhuhu

    Does it make a difference to replace coil spring? I am rebuilding the front suspension on my w210 with 350 k miles and the original springs look pretty good. I live in Arizona so my car is rust free

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 8 lety

      at 350k miles I would do the springs as well..the front springs are around $100 per pair

    • @heinkmeister8415
      @heinkmeister8415 Před 5 lety

      At 350k miles I’d change the entire suspension. Push down on each corner of the car, it should come up and stop firm when you let go. If it bounces as if you just pushed on a waterbed, then it’s time to change the shocks.

  • @terrenceg3257
    @terrenceg3257 Před 10 lety

    Are these shocks spring loaded? That would make it significantly more difficult for me to change them.

    • @fupabox

      yes they are...they are quite tough to compress

  • @casylius

    Good instruction. A head light would give better lighting for the video. Also, shouldn't you take off the tire to have better room to work with?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety

      You're right on the head lights..I try to use one whenever filming just to help with the bad lighting..The tire can be removed but it isn't necessary, it definately would have helped with the lighting issue though

    • @LuisHernandez-ep8bb

      My CLK 55 W209, but since its based on the C class perhaps you've got the small gap too

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 9 lety

      Luis G. Hernandez Ahhh.. yes brain fart on my part.. The w209 has a shock in spring type setup, unlike the w209 and older cars that had the spring seperate.. The w209 has a kind of semi strut since it also has an upper wishbone..once on the ground there is supposed to be a tiny gap, but I can't recall how much
