    I see Frija-Freyja-Frigg as one goddess. The reason is that when I started working with Freyja, Frigg was always there too, in the background, but always there. I thought, well, then I'll work with both of them, but in order to really get to know them individually, I wanted to work with them individually, so I concentrated on Frigg, Freyja was always there, this time she was in the background. I found that strange, because until then I had actually seen them as separate and everyone I talked to about it didn't experience it that way either, I thought for a long time that I was doing something wrong. Then I looked into her history, not "just" her mythology, but her (probable) historical development, which you have also portrayed beautifully, and now the whole thing made sense and I could accept that I perceive her differently from others and finally found peace with it.
    For me, Freyja is the young Frigg, Frigg the more mature, settled, wiser Freyja. In fact, I often work with her as Frijia when I want to address both sides equally, for example, I have keys lying on my altar (Frigg), amber and cat figurines (Freyja). Colour-wise, I just stick to the colours that are in season, that suits me and my practice for both. If I want to address only her qualities, with which she is more associated as Freyja, there are corresponding offerings, I work with corresponding associations, etc. If I want to address the Frigg qualities, others.
    It may all sound a bit weird, so it's a comparison, and I realise it's lame, but I also have different personalities that I show to different people. Those who are really close to me know me completely (Frija), more casual friends know me more in a fun context (Freyja), at work they know me more professionally, of course I also tell them private things sometimes, but not the way my friends know me (Frigg). The classification of friends vs. colleagues doesn't fit so well, of course. I just want to make it clear that I am still me, even if I show myself differently in different contexts. That is also how I perceive Freyja-Frigg. I hope it comes across what I mean, I find it difficult to describe.
    Great viedeo, thank you

    I see Frigg and Freya as separate myself, though I lean much more firmly into my Swedish roots when pulling on folklore and stories to build praxis around. Frigg to me is the quiet strength of women, the leader of the home, the motherly figure that has all the answers for you - my logic being like the adult female figure that you'd ask all your questions of as a child, so that they come across like this mystical fount of endless knowledge. Frigg IS that fount of wisdom and knowledge, knowing how things need to be run, how to cure what ails and what someone needs to hear to keep getting up everyday. She's the steady rhythms of life and the peace of a clean home and full bellies.
    Freya, meanwhile, is the wild strength of women (or femme energy, not trying to be not inclusive but my practice is very solo and I am cis-bi so women and womanhood is an important aspect for me). She's the sorceress, the witch in the woods, the warrior, the one who fights for change, for equality, she's the femme fatal, the woman who is in control of her sexuality and grace. She's the one that seeks mysteries, who guides the dead, who holds the secrets of magic and who taught Seidr to Odin.
    Where Frigg and her aspects make up the backbone of my daily life, the domestic tasks that make life comfortable, and the joyful pursuit of knowledge. Freya is who I turn to when I'm ready to fact new challenges and magics.

      1 Corinthians 10:19-21
      What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything?
      Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.
      You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

    I have a complicated relationship with my biomom, and recently was really let down and hurt by her (even if I know it wasn’t intentional) and while having a good cry, I called out to Frigg, and talked to her about it.she was very comforting and supportive. And when I meditated and asked if she could touch my hand, my hands began to tingle slightly and feel extremely warm, as if I had winter mittens on. Whenever I talk to my deities, I shuffle tarot cards so they can reply whenever they want to. During my cry, I mentioned that I woke up early to meet with my biomom, and was probably gonna just stay up until I had to go to work and just deal with the lack of sleep. The fool card popped out of the deck and landed right in my lap. I took it to mean that she was saying that was a foolish idea and telling me to just take the nap. She confirmed that, and I felt much better afterwards. 100% sweet and comforting but with some tough love as well ❤

      I have a very similar situation with her too! 🥰❤️ My mom left when I was 8 and her wife has been abusive and just awful ever since (she’s still with her) and I’ve always been a daddy’s girl, I was drawn to Frig in a strange way and she was so maternal and sweet but also having that tough love aspect and fiercely protective too! It’s so lovely to hear someone else with a similar situation and also having a similar experience with her! I love that! 🥰❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘

    It's interesting to see Eir with Frigg, as I've seen Eir being the handmaiden of Freya and a healer of the Valkyrie. Specifically she's said to heal those not destined to die in a battle.

    I view Frigg and Freya more as separate entities that aren't exactly interchangeable in Norse paganism (as we understand it)
    But I also believe the hypothesis that they share a common origin and only later manifested as two distinct deities among the north germanic tribes. I think Jackson Crawford actually has a good video on this!
    What I find really interesting is the connection between the continental germanic deity Frija, and later folkloric attestations of Frau Holle! It does really seem like at least some parts of paganism influenced later beliefs in her

    I see them both as separate identities and energies. Freyja is very much lust, passion, strength, red, bright colors and Frigg is very much the matriarch energy, head of the house, strong, compassionate, wise, with colors like light blue and white for sure. I used to dedicate the weekly cleaning, cooking for her as well as making tea for her as an offering. I would advise on watching Arith Harger's video about the two goddesses and a possible justification on why there might have been a separation of the two aspects.

    Frigg is my main god i work with! For me, as someone who is a homebody, she helps me in all things household. I have a hard time doing household chores so dedicating them to her makes it easier for me to do them. She also helps me with my stitchwitch magic as well as general guidance through divination. She is a very motherly feeling to me and has been very kind to me.

    My favourite Norse goddess along with Hel 🥰❤️❤️❤️ she is so lovely! Huge badass mama energy! ❤ I also see them as 2 separate goddesses, I have loads of spinning wheel stuff for her and keys and a bird of prey skull, now I have learnt to nalbind, I do that as an offering for her as I use raw wool for it too which is like the spinning aspect and the sheep/ram connection too so it works really well 🥰❤️❤️

    I was literally crocheting at hat for Frigg when I clicked on your video. The word matronly is the first word I would use to describe her. Because she fills that roll for the community. Being a mother is very important to her but it’s not all that she is. She has other aspect to her and that’s important to remember.

  • @krysaniab1558
    @krysaniab1558 Před 8 měsíci +2

    Frigg is my main deity and one who I think has been around most of my life, looking back on past experiences. She has a very warm, motherly energy (her presence feels like that feeling you have right after a tight hug), but she also isn't going to do the work for you. I tend to give her offerings of berries and wild flowers, and one of the candles I have for her is raspberry mimosa scented (it's such a mom drink). I'm also a knitter and a cross stitcher, so that just makes a lot of sense. I even have special scissors I've dedicated to her at this point. A lot of the work I do with her is working to be a better wife and mother, and maintaining my home, but also still being my own separate person outside of those titles.
    I agree with the person who said Frigg and Freyja are like two sides of the same coin. They are very much their own women to me, but their similarities kind of feel like how I am very different now (in my 30's, married with a child) vs a decade ago (in my 20's, unmarried). There's common themes and interests between those two versions of me, but they also feel like two different people the more time goes on.

    I view them as different personalities of the same whole woman. Just like all of us have different parts of us that we show the world or hide away at times, so does she. All people are walking contradictions, sometimes we can be domestic, wise, calculated, other times we are fiery, passionate, wild, irrational. By splitting this awesome goddess into two, they were saying that we are either one side or the other, that we couldn’t be both. They reduced her and us into either a good housewife or a woman of lust and fighting, when really she is sooo much more complex. I prefer to view her as one, but focus on her opposing qualities/personalities depending upon the need of the moment. As one whole goddess she is so much more powerful than just her two counterparts alone. She allows me to be myself completely and tells me not to diminish myself for anyone. At home I take care of my house and family, I read and create in my spare time and embody the qualities of Frigg. At work I am a boss, and authoritative, passionate and compassionate, so I embody Freyja. Combined, I am me, one woman trying to do it all through balance.

    I work with the Allmother, very caring and matronly energy. She has this protective, always urges me get over hurdles, makes me feel protected "feel" to her energy. She comes throughout everytime with blessings, and i feel she watches ove me, my home and my family. Every friday, I give set offerings for her pray to her. She is one of the 3 Aesir that I work directly with. Actually had a dream that she met me in the woods and gifted me a boar pelt❤

    wow this is so cool! i've just been sort of rambling around the internet today, saw a video about norse history that briefly mentioned frigg and had an impulse to learn more about her ... found your video and i started to get so excited by all these connections i felt. i'm not the domestic type at ALL, but my home situation the laat few years has been quite turbulent and been realizing i really have a desire for more stability and trying to cultivate more selfcare/homecare in my life. and i had so many resonances with the symbols... my birthday was recently and i saw a heron, in the middle of a big city where i have never seen a heron before... it gave my chills. it was by a pond in a park where no one else was around and the heron just hung out until it flew away and suddenly people came. it felt like it was only for me. recently i read a story in a book of folk tales about these magical marshes the moon descends as a woman to explore that i loved and i've seen that figure in meditations a few times since (made me think of her hall in the marshes) ... i've never been into fibre art but in october stumbled across a bunch of images online that made me curious. DAMN! i've always loved learning about norse mythology but never done anything more, but it feels like frigg has been speaking to me for a while.. thanks for this video!

    PERFECT timing. I have this jar of cat whiskers in my altar and every time I see it I think of Freya. I don’t work with Freya nor have I ever, but I have thought about it lately. And today I was looking at my altar and I moved the ehiskers to a different spot and I was like “Ya know. Maybe these are in honor of Freya. I keep thinking of her when I see them so i guess I accept that these are for her”

    Wonderful video-as always❤. I recently started hand sewing a late Victorian outfit, and I started with the corset. I’m interested in wearing historical dress on a day to day basis. I’ve been working with Freyja in terms of self confidence and living my authentic self, and wearing historical dress is one embodiment of this. I just finished the corset, and have been wanting to add some embroidery including bind runes I’ll create for self love and confidence. I’ve been wanting to dedicate the sewing of this outfit to a goddess, but wasn’t sure which would be appropriate. Thanks to this video, now I know 😊. I’ve also been drawn to learning spinning and tablet weaving. I’m feeling very drawn to Frigg after watching this video. I didn’t know much about her prior to this. Also, my favorite spot to walk my dog has a creek running through it, and there’s always herons hanging around. I often bring a garbage bag and pick up trash around the creek while my dog Frekki plays, and this can be another offering to her as I clean up the area for the herons. I can’t say enough how much your videos have helped inspire my Heathen practice. Thank you for all you do ❤

    I see them as two sepereate goddesses. I might be biased as a Freya devotee, but the Frigg=Freya thing never made any sense to me. From what I've read the theory is solely based on the similar names and the fact that Freya doesn't appear outside of the norse regions. imo that's just like saying Loki and Udgard Loki must be the same. They're both called Loki and both are cunning, but they're two different beings. Aside from that, Frigg doesn't have a brother. I see no problem with Freya being simply unknown in german and anglo-saxon areas.

    Could you do one for jord? I find these so interesting❤️ I believe in the “Christian” god, although I don’t think most would consider me Christian. However, I am very interested in Norse paganism. I believe there is an earth goddess, however I’m having serious guilt & an internal battle over switching my religion. It’s scary with the amount of fear Christians push into their community over only believing in one god. I feel like if I didn’t witness so much fear mongering when it came to religion , id actually allow myself to believe in the worse gods. They speak to my soul. I’d love to see a video about that too, about switching from one religion to Norse paganism.

    I personally work with Frigg and Freyja (I've always spelled it that way and I don't care😂) as a dual sided Goddess. 2 Goddess' in one and I tend to work with Frigg in Autumn and winter and Freyja in spring and summer. I see the Frigg side as Mother and Matron even crone level and Freyja as Maiden to mother, much more sister like though. For me her Frigg side is Hearth and Home and Freyja is Healing love and fertility. Personally 🙏🏻

    I have been really enjoying learning about Norse culture and their worship practices lately and have found that I gravitate to your videos the most! There's just something about your teaching style (grounded in good research) where you share the actual history without it becoming so much I tune out, while also adding the "witchy", intuitive perspective (and the act of how to actually *work* with these deities) that just works for me so well! I find myself interested to learn more and actually retaining the knowledge you give, so yes please keep making these videos! I believe the god Njord may be trying to reach out to me, but so far have found very little info on him. Do you know good CZcams videos I could perhaps watch on him (and would you consider making a video about him next?)? Thank you so much, super look forward to all your videos!

    Absolutely different deities.
    1. Freya is a Vanir
    2. Frigg is an Æsir
    3. Their "functions" are different, their handmaidens are different, their animals are different ...
    The similarities are the letter F and gender. Full stop.
    As a Norwegian, I find it "interesting" that non-Nordics theorize/affirm things about the Norse deities and customs they know little to nothing about.

    • @sarahgilbert8036
      @sarahgilbert8036 Před 4 měsíci

      Side note: the Æsir also invaded the Vanir lands - it's quite possible that certain similar-looking aspects of Frigg were put in to help them being accepted - much as the White Christ's followers did in later centuries.

    • @TheNorseWitch
      @TheNorseWitch  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Well, this question comes up a lot in academia, theorized about by people who have been studying this their entire lives. I wouldn’t say they „know little to nothing about“…. But this sounds a lot like „if you’re not Scandinavian you shouldn’t even think about Norse paganism“ to me. Btw, the entire conversation arises because a similar deity exists not only in Norse mythology but also Germanic and Anglo-Saxon myths. So I wouldn’t be so quick to exclude non-Scandinavians from this conversation.
