This is a PCB repair for Romain from the youtube channel "Mod In France". The board suffers from issues with the background graphics.Previous repair attempts failed. Let's see what we can do. Enjoy!
Hey Doc, thanks so much for fixing my board. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting it but I got lost in the rabbit hole at some point. Your idea to keep the background frozen for more reliable test was incredibly smart. When I tested the ram input, I must have seen it pulsed and told myself it was OK. Anyway, fantastic work as always. Un très grand merci !
After watching those wonderful videos repairing Arcade PCB Boards from expert Doktorzett, and how explain in details I was able to fix my two non working DD, they were sitting in my shelf for more than 10 years, and now i am very happy. Please make more videos repairing arcade PCB, you are a great contributor to Arcade community many thanks
The problems with these boards is usually bad ram and buffers. 90-percent of those 16-pin DIPs on these arcade boards are buffers. 5☆ video friend. I might buy a huge box of faulty but complete boards soon. I have a lab at a factory unit where I can do all these repairs. I have plenty of buffer ICs 74HC and 74LS etc... but I needs to get some old RAM chips. Anyone have a generic list they want to share for RAM chips used on boards say 1981 - 1988? I am chasing boards between 81 and 88. Love that vintage of game.
Watched all your videos in the last week - thanks for posting. Very interesting, informative and educational. Reliving my miss-spent youth through your videos - might even give this a go myself. Danke
Welcome back! Nice work, as usual. Faulty RAM chips seem to be fairly common with old arcade boards. Luckily that's all this one was. The cool part, though, is the diagnostic steps and the results at each step. That's why I like these videos so much. I see a lot of "So I did this thing, then that thing." explanations on other videos, but without showing the steps themselves. I think your approach is much better.
Thank you! And yes, you are right, the ram chips are one pretty common problem on the double dragons, also the prom chips seem to be problematic often, I think because they tend to get very hot. But you also see eprom failiures, failiure of regular ttl "glue" chips and well as with all boards corrosion related and physical damage related issues. So I think that still every repairt I start is an interesting project and I have to admit that I do have another board on the bench with I worked on for a long time and I actually don't seem to be able to figure it out. Challenging!
I am trying to upload more vids to keep the channel alive. Thank you for all your nice comments, you seem to be one of my biggest fans... I appreciate it very much. ;-)
Thank you for the new and great video. I don't really know the "-5V" requirement. Could you tell how sensitive is the PCB to Power Supply "-5V" changes? -4V or -4,5V isn't enough, right? Thanks in advance for your answer.
Do you know where I could find schematics for an Aero Fighters PCB? I have two of them that need repair, and haven't been able to find schematics anywhere.
DOKTORZETT, can you explain more about how arcade games use the multiplexers to switch on and off the graphics and V&H sync signals. Why are they using RAM chips as a buffer chip? why not just use a buffer chip instead of using a RAM chip? Does the Test diagnostic program have the address mapping and address decoding RAM and ROM ranges built into the code?
Love the channel! Great repair here. Are you available to hire for repairs? I have a Boogie Wings from Data East that is having background layer issues like this DD.
My uncle has a Double Dragon board that won't boot properly, do you have any idea what the problem could be? (I think it's either the CPU or RAM) czcams.com/video/wSH7Rdduv_I/video.html
Hallo Christoph, habe ein Double Dragon Original-Board, welches jetzt leider nicht mehr läuft. Hätte ein paar Fragen bzgl. Reparatur. Kann ich dich via Mail kontaktieren? Danke!
