    Had my PX for 6 months and I never regret the day I first laid my ears on them. They have a very well balanced sounds that allows the music to engage you and never sound superficial. I like this about the PX, the simply deliver pure musical joy. I also agree that the source is important, pairing my PX with Fii0's Q1 markII DAC just takes the sound quality to a whole new level.
    Absolutely no regrets with my PX!

    I have both headphones, the Sony 1000mx3 and the B&W PX.
    SOUND:
    However, I intend to say that B&W has a more intense bass, and Sony has a more BOOOMMM bass! Did I make myself understand?
    After listening a techno music at high volume, the results in my head were different:
    With the Sony 1000mx3 I kept my head vibrating.
    With the B&W PX I got my head to echo inside!
    The B&W PX bass comes in inside the head, and the Sony 1000mx3 vibrates the outside of the head.
    Different results for different tastes.
    I prefer the Bass of the B&W PX, more real and penetrating, like a punch in the head.
    Sony sounds a little artificial.
    In addition, the B&W PX volume is higher.
    When it reaches the volume limit on the Sony 1000mx3, the B&W still has another 20% to add.
    Without a doubt, the sound of the B&W PX is superior, more defined and more elegant.
    I say this without any tendency, because I bought both.
    Do not forget the following:
    B&W is a company dedicated exclusively to sound, equipping high-end cars like Ferrari, BMW's etc.
    Sony produces a wide variety of things, from mobile phones to microwaves. B&W is a lady of sound
    quality, because she dedicates himself exclusively to this.
    COMFORT:
    With regard to comfort, the Sony 1000mx3 are more comfortable, nor giving almost by the presence of them in the head. 👍👍👍
    However, while the B&W PXs are less comfortable, the ears stay free inside the earpiece, being cooler and not causing perspiration.
    The Sony 1000mx3 ears do not have space inside the headphones, and make them perspire on hotter days.
    Unsustainable in summer days, much less to walk down the street on sunny days. 👎
    The quality of construction is top notch in the B&W PX. All in aluminum, and genuine leather. It costs € 400 in Europe but
    pays for the elegance and quality of construction. 👍
    The Sony 1000mx3 is all in plastic and synthetic skin. In Europe costs € 380, but it seems that we are buying plastic.👎
    However the Sony are lighter and therefore more comfortable. 👍
    NOISE CANCELLATION:
    The Sony 1000mx3 has a perfect noise cancellation, it looks like you put your head inside a vacuum chamber. Perfect!
    👍👍👍
    The B&W PX though reasonable in noise cancellation, but are far from the Sony 1000mx3.
    Android/ Apple APPLICATION:
    With respect to the Android application to control the headphones, the Sony is perfect, as well as the indicator sounds in your own language.
    The B&W PX are just beeps. 👎👎👎
    The B&W PX application only serves to control the level of noise reduction (which is best to keep it OFF), and to control the system to pause the music when you remove the B&W PX from your ears (which works at 80%). The app for B&W PX is terribly basic 👎👎👎
    CONCLUSION?
    Comparing these headphones to a women, I would say:
    That the Sony are that kind of woman, very
    devoted to home and children, but a little less beautiful and more chubby.
    The B&W PX is that a elegant woman, very pretty, but untidy woman at home.
    So, if you prefer the ugly and dedicated woman at home, you will always look at the beautiful woman.
    If you prefer the elegant and beautiful woman, you go and wash your dishes at home. You choose. 😁😁😎
    I prefer the B&W PX,
    although I know it does not have all those features that would do it great.
    I'm more of a fan of B&W PX's aesthetic and sound elegance.
    If you choose B&W PX you will make a good choice, but sacrificing some aspects of the Sony 1000mx3 that would make music even more enjoyable.
    If you buy Sony, you're just one more who bought a headset for €350.
    If you buy B & W, whoever watches you knows that you like not just music but sound quality.
    Some of the "business" websites that do the comparatives, seem to give 100% preference to Sony, but gave me the impression of sponsorship by Sony.
    😀😀😀
    Because everyone knows Sony, and a lot of people have never heard of Bowers & Wilkins, only sound connoisseurs know it.
    Thus, Sony is more mediated, and ends up having a control of public opinion, and obviously creates a subconscious tendency by Sony, even some of youtubers who make these comparatives
    .
    If you are young, and like techno, buy a Sony.
    But if you are over 40 years old, and want to make up for the lack of youth with charm, buy B&W PX 😎👍 .

    Thank you for mentioning the lack of multipairing on the Sony. I can't believe how many reviewers seem to leave that out, and it's a bloody huge feature.
    I am wondering if you have any thoughts on the PX vs Sennheiser HD1/Momentum wireless.

    • @dontwatchmydoomvideos
      @dontwatchmydoomvideos Před 3 lety

      I realize this was 2 years ago but, as far as I can remember HD1 sounds worse than both of these under almost any context (except with an amp). PX vs Momentum3, both are bassy, momentum rattles bass a bit more and sounds bigger, good for electronic music. PX sounds more natural, better with instruments. I can't remember the vocals on the momentums. However, if you use USB-C mode on the Momentum 3 is\t sounds better than the other two by a huge margin. Its driver has incredible potential but its internal DAC or smthn isn't powerful enough to let it shine in normal Bluetooth mode

    • @dontwatchmydoomvideos
      @dontwatchmydoomvideos Před 3 lety

      Oh and build quality Momentum 3 < HD1 < Px. The new momentums feel more plastic and frail than the HD1s, and PX is the best built by far, feels like sturdy metal. Comfort HD1 > Momentum 3 > PX. Px clamps pretty harshly, HD1 just kinda slides onto your head, Momentum 3 is in between, just feels cheap on your head. ANC PX > M3 imo

  • @JohnArmwood

    One major feature you missed on the Sony's is if you need to speak to someone while they are on all you have to do is put on your right hand over the right earcup. It will simultaneously turn on ambient sound and ower the volume level of what you are listening to so you can easily speak with someone.

  • @wackyp
    @wackyp Před 4 lety +1

    Great thorough comparison. One feature/annoyance I noticed between the two was that when placed around your neck, the Sony's will lay cups down and face your chest whereas the PX will lay cups up.

  • @ctd702
    @ctd702 Před 5 lety +10

    Having such a hard time deciding. I have both with limited time to return. To me, the XM3 sounds muddy. The sound of the PX seems to suit me better. XM3 has nice features and better NC, but the touch features are finicky and play/pause/skip when I only want to adjust the headphone. The fact XM3 only connects to one device drives me nuts. It also doesn't tell you what device it has connected to so I have to search all of my devices in order to manually disconnect and reconnect to the device I want. However, XM3 wins on comfort, which is not to say the PX is uncomfortable. Just takes some breaking in time.
    PX looks nice, feels better once broken in, sounds better but NC not as good as Sony. Also, heavier, but after break in, it’s okay. PX doesn’t fold and comes with soft case so you will likely need to buy a hard case. But the sound quality is what gets me. They just sound better than the Sonys and the automatically connect when you put them on your head. Lifting one ear cup will pause the music which is a nice feature too. First world problems of having to choose between them.

      ctd702 I’m having the same dilemma right now, coming from Sennheiser Momentum 2’s.

      @ctd702 Před 5 lety +1

      @@Big2Planker Hi there. It took me roughly about a week or two. I'm at a desk job, so I would use them for the majority of the day, but after work or for charging, I'd actually place them over the box that they came with in order to assist with breaking them in more, and loosening up the clamping force. I hope that helps you out!

      ctd702 thanks for the quick reply and tips - I really want to get them to work out, but with a 7 3/4 “dome”, it’s a fight. Thankfully, I’ll have time to break them in physically and sonically.
      I did a “wind comparison” today also and the PX’s won, hands down due primarily to the differing build materials, rather than all all plastic.
      Thanks again!

    One extra with the Sony's (actually, I only tested this on their predecessor) is that from the off state, touching the NFC to an NFC enabled phone or tablet will not just handle the initial pairing, but also power the headphones on and immediately connect them. This has been a real usability improvement for some older folks I work with.

    I think that with the sound quality being so close, it probably doesn't really come into it. I have both and the Sony wins on all accounts except Looks and overall quality of sound, but they both sound incredible for wireless headphones. If you are really bothered about that little bit extra in sound quality, you probably shouldn't be looking at wireless at all. Also, I have to disagree with your verdict on Noise Cancelling. In this regard, the Sony's win hands down. The Sony's have the best noise cancelling of any wireless headphone currently available. It is way better than the PX and also it does not affect the sound quality as it does on the PX. AirPlane level of NC on the PX really has a bad effect on the sound so I have to set it to the lowest setting to enjoy the best out of the headphone. To me, buying a wireless NC headphone is all about the convenience, features, and performance of the Noise Cancelling function and as much as I have loved the PX for the last year or so, It is simply
    put in the shade by the new Sony.

Sony had major issues with their previous models of this Headphone cracking and snapping headbands and creaking sidearms. On the other hand B&W and B&O will last you years and for sound quality and better build/ looks they just win big time. B&O are majorly comfortable as well, the B&W take a few weeks to become more comfortable because the quality material they use for the earcups softens with a bit of time and becomes very comfortable.

      It's not worth going for the PX. The sound quality advantage is very small and technically the Sony is way better. I have both. Also, you must remember that being B&W's first ANC headphone, it won't be long before it is superseded. It is over a year old now. Also, make sure you can feed the headphone aptX HD or LDAC, it really does make a huge difference. Last year when I purchased the PX, I was taken in by the whole B&W audiophile pedigree thing and to be honest I was not disappointed. However times change and Sony have really upped their game and fixed all the niggley problems from the previous models. It is a no brainer.

I think there is enough difference in sound quality to make a difference when considering B&W, I have had the px but although I liked them I had issues with the sensitivity of the sensor and sent them back, I prefer the P7 wireless, I have B&O H9i and love them, I just cannot justify paying over 300£ for plastic cans that have had previous issues with cracking, snapping and creaking on their previous models, but Sony continues to knock them out in the same plastic quality, not for me I’m afraid.

    Great review! Multi pairing of PXs is super nice and you’re right... they have super balanced sound that is amazingly accurate, but if you favor bass... you may want to go with the MX3’s. Dubstep, EDM and hip hop just aren’t the same. But I can hear the twang of a string and the individual bounces of the drumstick on the drum head with each strike on my PXs. Can Sony do that?
    I listen to a huge variety of music and just wish PX would offer an EQ setting in the app. I wish there was a bit more touch controls on the headphones themselves as well. It would be nice to be able to skip forward on a current track, and back. Also, the double-tap to skip to the next track doesn’t always work properly so sometimes my music will just pause instead of skip. The power switch is a bit clunky too since it’s so small, it slips easily.
    I think the Sony’s have a way better UI when it comes to touch controls and app but ultimately, I bought these headphones for the sound quality first, bells and whistles second.

      I’ve used the PX for a long time and can confirm they sound great! The main problem people have with them is that they don’t get a good seal and a good seal around the ears is so important with these headphones.
      They don’t leak a lot of sound. Never had that problem. But if the seal is bad then sound will leak.
      And some say they don’t have much bass. But again it’s down to the seal. With good seal you have good bass. Without good seal, thinner sound and less bass.
      The padding on the cups is quite stiff and therefore you can have bad seal depending on the shape of your head/jawline.
      You should try them on. If they fit you, they will have better sound than the Sonys

Sony hands-down win on comfort, portability and noise cancellation. Bowers and Wilkins wins on design and sound quality, even with noise cancelling turned on. If you are looking for comfortable, robust headphones for travelling, go with the Sony's. If you are an audio/music enthusiast who just wants a great soundstage, go with the PX's. It's really that simple. Also, you can lift/turn the cans on the PX's while keeping them on your head to cancel the noise cancellation, so there was no omission.

      XM3 just arrived. It does really comfort. Also very happy with the bass and NC. I think it is clear which one I am keeping. Thanks for the review.
