It was nice in comparison today but compared to other decades they aren't really that good. The cold war created this cold, bleak atmosphere which is really apparent when you listen to the music. Just as artificial and boring. Synth pop was the curse that computerized music and ultimately led to the industry's downfall. All that computer made crap goes back to that era. Sure there were still good bands around I don't doubt that. But it can't compete with what was going on in the 60s and 70s. That is me saying that as a 90s kid. The culture itself though was of course way more open and real life oriented than today. So were the naughties when I grew up. Don't get me wrong I love 80s movies and a bunch of other stuff from that time since I was born in 83´ so I still perceived some of the Zeitgeist. But objectively speaking the generations before me had better music.

77 baby here and the 80’s can never be replaced. It’s that one decade through the ages that will always be remembered as the greatest of all time. It was the time after the slower paced old days and the time before the fast paced out of wack days. No other time frame can compare and the only way to ever get that back is to reset the world, our memories, and start it all over again. My 3 favorite memories of the 80’s were Saturday morning cartoons, playing outside every day until the street lights came on, and being absolutely carefree while living a simple life. However, I could go on and on and on like Christmas time, not having to lock our doors, less crime, television shows like Miami Vice, World Wrestling Federation, Kung fu theater, playing cops and robbers, skateboarding, bike riding, building treehouses and forts, running through the woods, walking across town, and the list goes on and on.
Edit: of course ALL OF THE MUSIC!!!!!
What’s your 3 favorite memories from the 80’s?

I don't know if it's more they go looking for trouble or they just happen to find it because of being triggered by something someone else said. This technology is a problem in that regards but ironically it's also the solution since you can always find something to either confirm or debunk almost anything. The "do your own research" crowd are the ones least likey to take their own advice, since their research equates to some memes that someone else posted. Very few actually go looking to find out if it's true or not.

I grew up in the '80s and had a pretty terrible childhood by most standards. That said, I still look back on that time period as the best time of my life. There was indeed something special about the '80s. Spending the summer being outside all day with my friends, exploring around on our bikes, building forts in the woods, and generally raising hell was always exciting. Going to the video store to rent a good VHS tape, with classics like Commando and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, was a highlight. No cell phones meant you had to memorize all of your friends' phone numbers. No need to call, though; you just went over to their house and knocked on the door to see if they were home. Everything was more laid-back and genuine; people were nicer and much more active. All of this technology we've become accustomed to is doing the opposite of what it's intended to do. Rather than bringing us closer together, it's drawing us farther apart. I look forward to living my life over and experiencing the '80s again.

1980 baby right here. Living in today's world with everything at the touch of our fingertips it's easy to forget how different life was for us back then. You forget that it was such a great time when you are so caught up in all of the technology we have. Isn't it funny we didn't have all the information readily available to us but we still have all the information we needed readily available for us.

Hostess Ding Dongs were expensive, and when you saw a kid pull out that foil wrapped treat from his or her lunch box or bag, you thought that the kid was lucky. Remember Chocodiles? What about the soda in glass bottles that had thin insulation around the lower part of the bottle to keep it cold? Plastic soda bottles also had a base made of thicker plastic. Thank you for posting this. Take care.

I loved the 80's, it was an awesome decade. I think it was a very nonjudgmental time. We all had friends we knew where gay, or low IQ, or overweight, there was only 1 race, the human race, but it went unspoken and excepted. We just enjoyed the person as they were. You forgot about VCRs, VHS tapes, Cassette tapes, Record players, typewriters, Bulky apple computers with floppy discs, going to arcade centers to play video games, taking photos and developing them in a dark lab. We used to write paper letters with a pencil. Playing NES consoles with actual cartridges and also blowing into them, going to video rental stores like Blockbuster Video, Hollywood Video, Top Hat Video, Cougar Video rental. Also we had no Internet and we used to go to the library to check out books or read from World Books. Also you can no longer watch Disney Channel shows the way it used to be in the 1980s which usually aired but then many of the shows was no longer available. Also cars used to have peg knobs and window rollers and also cars used to have popup eye lights. Also we used to use cash and had to go to the mall and stores alot to get our shopping done, Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken used to be a sit down restaurant. Also prices for food, drinks, clothes, movie theaters used to be much cheaper and affordable than it is now. Also the cartoons I used to watch usually was very detailed artwork when 2D animation used to dominate our pop culture like with Johnny Quest, GI Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, He-man, Secret of Nimh, The Rescuers and many more, also we used to play with toys way more than today. Also the Weather Channel used to play all the time and had Jazz music you could listen to.
But in Utah where I was born in there were strict laws about smoking and drinking alcohol in the 1980s and most people I lived with or saw never smoked or drank alcohol which was very rare to see, also I didn't hear or see as much profanity like I do now days. Also news used to be more local like KSL 5. Also you used to be able to call the Church of Jesus Christ the Mormon Church or Mormon Tabernacle Choir which is now frowned upon these days, and we had that awful 3 hour church block which has since changed to 2 hour church block, there also used to be home teaching which is now changed to Ministering. Also the awful alarm bells were in schools and in our Church of Jesus Christ building which terrified me which thankfully you don't hear much anymore. Also many of the LDS films from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s used to be available on VHS but most of them are lost media unless you can find it on youtube. I do vaguely remember my childhood in the 1980s but I was a little kid then, now I'm a grown man.

You forgot to mention that the aluminum foil on the rabbit ears antenna always worked better when you were touching it. Thus becoming part of the antenna. Then, if you were lucky you had a "kids" TV which was always an old portable black and white that usually had a fuzzy picture. I was born in 61 and can remember my parents complaining about gas being TWELVE CENTS a gallon! We spent all summer in that strange place called outside were we tried to kill ourselves on playground equipment that is now banned by the Geneva convention. Ahhh, the good old days!
