    If you like marketing, and want some more in-depth videos on the topic, we upload 6 extra videos/month on our Patreon. There I don't have to care about algorithms and viewcounts, and all I focus on is delivering as much value as possible.
    You also get some extra goodies, and most importantly, you allow us to keep creating these videos!

    Concerning the screenshots, Chris Zukowski recommended in a recent video that you shouldn't be afraid to "fake" variety in your screenshots. Obviously don't be misleading but if you know something is going to make into the final game and it just isn't ready yet, you can still make it look nice for a screenshot without actually implementing all of the mechanics.

      ah yes The Day Before marketing strategy 😂 but yes you have a good point. I've added some lighting effects by just drawing on a screenshot before cuz adding it to the game is a bit more complex

      there is a small indie dev who faked the gifs. He animated stuff that is not yet in game that will be in later. But he knew that having visually pleasing gifs was the way to go (iirc he was aiming for releasing demo on next fest and wanted to have steam page up few days or weeks before).

    I think my biggest mistake is not having a trailer yet! Trying to fix that as soon as possible, but so much visual and audio polish left to do first (otherwise I'll be doubling my workload by needing to make several trailer updates over time). My capsule might need work as well... and more screenshot variety... so many things to do! =D

    Is it allowed to write other Game titles in the game discription ? like ....... "if you liked Resident Evil, this game is for you" or "this game is a mix of Super Mario with elements of Metroid"

    • @bitemegames
      @bitemegames  Před měsícem +2

      You are allowed to, but it's not always the best to compare yourself to other games, and instead focus on what makes you better instead. -M

      @@bitemegames Thanks, the the fast reply. :)
      I think sometimes it's not really needed to be better, some games want exactly similar games like known games ... I was one of them, for me was it important that it's something that I don't know, that's the reason why I have bought back in the days over 30 jrpgs, over 30 fightig games, over 25 wrestling games, over 20 Resident Evil clones and hundereds of action adventures because I wanted to play someting similar like Tomb Raider.
      The interest to make own games comes from playing so much, I got concepts how to make better fighting games and wrestling games (Tekken 8, WWE 2k24 are for me "too simple and old fashioned"), but that concepts are more unrealistic than making an AAA multiplayer open world action adventure game. lol
      My focus would be more on 3d action adventures that looks nice but would lack on purpose of things like maps, inventory and UI ...... most players would hate my weak and sometimes clumsy characters, and I already can guess how the Steam reviews would be. lol

      Not recommended. If someone is not a fan of the game you compared yourself to then they aren't going to be enthused by that description. And if the person likes that game you mentioned then you will be immediately compared to it or make them go "I could just play that game instead."

    Any games that have a good short 30 second action trailer for reference?

    I agree with everything except "jif" lol.
    Graphics Interchange Format has no "juh" in it anywhere.
    And no, I don't agree with the creator, who says it's fine, either. 🤓
    I'm a dork, I know, but I'll die on this hill, haha!

    Great video but I'm struggling with the Gifs. What do you use to generate these as the only applications I can find (for free) only output to specific sizes like 320 or 640 so I can't get them created at the correct size?

    • @bitemegames

      Record them as videos, use ezgif.com to convert them, you can crop, and set resolutions in browser, for free! -M

    I'm kinda glad we're moving away a bit from the 'launch Steam page immediately!' advice. You need something reasonable to show, and a basic trailer I think.

    • @mandisaw
      @mandisaw Před 2 měsíci

      There at least needs to be enough to establish your main hooks (or USPs). Things can still be buggy, or half-implemented, but the core fundamentals - incl genre, gameplay loop, artstyle, and overall story/theme should all be locked-down and clearly conveyed.
      If you're still asking yourself the "5 W's", then it's still too early.

    Trailers are overrated, you need polished gameplay for a trailer.
    1. Launch your page with varied screenshots
    2. "Announce" your game with a trailer to 'shock' Steam alg. to start showing your game (that's actually an important step that Chris Z. talks about in his course, Steam won't show your game unless you bring the audience first)

    • @tymondabrowski12
      @tymondabrowski12 Před 2 měsíci

      Yes, but on the other hand, just launching the page gives you some increased visibility - Chris said it's probably people who watch for all new pages or something like that, since it's not Steam giving you that. But I guess launching with everything else polished might be good enough.
