  • In this video I share how I work over the pre-prepared collage concertina sketchbook in the autumn woodland.
    The location work is sped up so that you can see a couple of pages. I know it is a bit shaky but this only lasts a couple of minutes. I then share how I edit pages back in the studio. Finally, I walk you through the completed sketchbook.
    Here is the video that shares the pre-preparation :

    Good tip about looking back later and adding connecting marks to connect the spreads

      Thanks Anne yes I think it really helps to do that and also to simplify as necessary at this stage too.

    Hi Liz, just wanted to thank you for all your wonderful videos, which are so inspiring. And your enthusiasm is contagious! I don't really work directly from nature, but your process is really so interesting that I have adopted some aspects of it, like the organisation of collage pieces or how to seal wooden panels. Your generous sharing is very appreciated!

    Really enjoyed this sketchbook, Liz. The colour has come more spasmodically this autumn…. So much to be inspired by.
    Love the variety of marks and your editing technique, and am so intrigued by the effect of the collage, which seems to open the vista up in a mysterious way. Thank you!

      Thanks for your comments Sue. You are right about the spasmodic colour- different to last year. Yes the collage has always intrigued me too! It gives something to respond to and a less obvious result- I always think it really does help me into abstraction.

      Thanks Imelda this sketchbook will soon be available on my online shop . Yes it is a bit of an occupational hazard!! I’m using gouache rather than acrylics outside now - find it easy to wash off!

    Wonderful work Liz, I feel like I'm walking through the woods looking at those pages! I'm currently doing an online course and working in a concertina sketchbook at the mo, I love how it flows from one page to the next. It's definitely something I'll be keeping up!

      Hello Nina thanks!- No I don’t gesso the sketchbook. If you follow the link in the notes to the preparation video it shows exactly how I pre-prepare.

    We’re those little tubes of watercolour of gouache you were smudging straight on to the page Liz?

    • @LizAckerley
      @LizAckerley  Před 2 lety

      Sorry Anne, I didn't see this comment before. Yes, little tubes of gouache. I find it easier to use with the small concertina than acrylic.

    I love your videos . id like to see a slower one. its hard to focus on anything because the picture jumps. so sorry to say

    • @LizAckerley
      @LizAckerley  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Nicky - yes it does on this one - sorry - I mentioned it in the comments. I wanted to give an overview rather than a slow version which would have been much longer. Although it’s jumpy it does give a gist of the approach- it’s often a juggle with these things.

      Hi Judith. I was sure I had responded on this before, so apologies. The concertina sketchbooks are pocket size from Seawhite of Brighton and are 9.5 x 17.5 cm folded.

    The first part of the video, with all the shaking and jerky movements, made me dizzy! It was impossible to focus on what you were doing. I did enjoy the latter section where I could actually see what you were adding to the page.

      Thank you for your feedback. When I speed it up so as to have a video that’s not too long then that sometimes happens - I mention it in the description. I’m glad you stuck with it and enjoyed the later parts . Thank you for your patience.

    • @annepercival7814
      @annepercival7814 Před 2 lety

      If you click at the top,of the video, you can adjust the speed back and slow it down…..just makes Liz sound rather drunk on the voice over 🤣
