You really deserve a lot more subscribers. The quantity and quality of content you produce is top-notch. I hope more people realise this in 2024 and subscribe.
Thank you very much Nico. It's supporters like you that are the lifeblood of the channel and I am so grateful that you are there. Thanks.
Seconded, one of the best,
Agreed
Always thought the same
The production quality and story telling is way ahead of of most of the ultra running channels I subscribe to, I would say Ben Parkes is also way up there too. I was so surprised at the subscriber count....I honestly thought you had 100k subs. 20K should be a breeze. You deserve way more
Appreciate that Nathan. Yes I do try to keep the production values fairly high. Not always possible but I'll keep at it!!
Another interesting video. It’s obvious how much effort you put in to your work. Always insightful and always interesting, hope 2024 is a success for you. Keep up the good work 😊
I thought you were going to say “this time next year we’ll be millionaires” 😊 I’m one of your 2023 subscribers, keep up the great work, wishing you every success 🤗
Appreciate the data! Keep going
This is a fantastic channel, thanks for all that you do
Glad you enjoy it!
If the last 2 years are anything to go by, you'll hit your target this year for sure. Best of luck! 👍🏻🙂
Thanks Mark. I hope so!
Good luck, you deserve lots more subscribers
Thank you Brionia
Love the content and those revenue vs views are astounding!
Keep up the inspiring work!
You do deserve more subs Stephen. I unsubbed from all the channels I was following when YT forced the removal of ad blockers. I ran one for security. I know the refrain is always 'ads pay the way' but so do viewers, without us, there is no product. I was hoping some channels might stand up to YT but but very few did, sadly.
Anyway, I did re-subscribe to you, Loyd and Allen Millyard (he's not a runner 🤣 ) but I'm way more discerning about who i support these days. A lot of channels lose their way when chasing 'clicks' IMO.
See you at Arc. (I'm the slow old man at the back 🤣 )
Thanks so much Ian. See you at the Arc!!
I agree with others you really do deserve a lot more subscribers as your channel is just brilliant. Very informative, great camera work and you can just tell the effort you put in to making your videos. Keep going and thank you for what you produce :)
Thanks Amy. Thanks for recognising that there is some work goes into these videos!!
Great work Steve, were you ever going to do a video of your UTMB experience last year? I know you did a great video of all your gear and nutrition etc, but I thought you were going to do a longer version... I might have missed it tho...
Hey Adam, UTMB video still in the works!
I started running in January 2016, the same month you started posting to Film My Run. Alongside the Ginger Runner I have you to thank for helping me get into the sport!
Thanks Ed and yes it was Ethan who was a big influence on my early career.
Well done Stephen, i have some insight into what it takes to grow a channel and an audience (in year one of mine), i shan't be giving up the day job anytime soon! Good luck with your goals, both channel and running, for 2024.
Hi no CZcams certainly isn't going to make you rich overnight. But if you hit a niche it is possible to make a living. However, most people are doing the same as me and adding CZcams add revenue to other income streams.
@FilmMyRun yeah, it's merely a hobby for me. Cape Wrath looks fun, i can't decide between that and DBR. To avoid making that decision I'm doing Northern Traverse in a few months instead. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
I found your channel from the backyard ultra video and loved it so much. Regarding growing the channel, the biggest thing you can do to make that happen is to do more collaborations with other channels. My other sport is climbing and the biggest names often do collaborations where there a multipart story that has one video on one channel and then the other part on the other channel. This seems to work really well however I implore you to not go down the route of making those awful click bait types of videos where you try various different, and totally outrageous sports that have zero connection to running.
The other thing (and this may be a myth so correct me if I’m wrong) is to make sure you keep the endings of videos short as I believe videos get better stats/monetisation if they’re watched until the end. Some channel have super long and drawn out outro sequences which, if this is true, only hurts their stats.
Thanks Nick. Fear not I have no intention of doing any outrageous non running related sports!! haha and yes these days I do try to cut off the end of my videos to make them stop when the content stops.
@@FilmMyRun glad to hear it. Collaborations are definitely worth a think. I know you’ve done some with Ben Parkes and Lloyd at Run4Adventure but maybe some others like Chris Branch or Flora Beverley etc might help you all out
Your channel is brilliant. Good luck with growing the channel - definitely deserve more followers.
Thank you so much. Really appreciate your support
Thanks for the transparency Stephen, this is so interesting. It’s great to see such strong growth in recent years and I hope that continues. The channel is fantastic, highly professional and very entertaining. I am a strong ambassador for the channel and always tell people about it whenever running comes up in conversation! All the very best
Thanks so much Mike and thanks for your support of the channel. We should definitely do a joint project at some point.
@@FilmMyRun I would absolutely love that
Congrats, well done! You deserve much more! I'm curious about what are your other income streams with regards to video-making etc... Thank you!
Good question! So I work for Zwift on a contract basis doing live streaming and writing. I also do social media and live streaming for various race companies. Plus I earn commission from my sponsors.
Fascinating to see, answers probably a lot of viewers questions. Would be good to make this an annual thing so we can watch your channel continue to grow! 👍
I might well do that. Ot at least every other year.
One of the best running channels in my opinion. Thank you and I really hope your channel and rewards grow 💪
Thank you so much. That is nice to hear and I'll do my best to keep moving forward and upward!
Interesting - would say the ratios to me are similar. I guess subs is largely how we view the success of a channel but count for nothing in revenue terms - which is watch hours of course. That said I guess subs do make it more likely a video will be noticed.
yes, direct correlation between number of subscribers and watch time hours
Well done and thanks for this interesting video.
Thank you!
100 percent should have more subscribers. Fantastic channel up there with the best. The viewers are there they just need to subscribe
Thanks Jake. Yes I think I still need to diversify more with the content. I probably don't do enough reviews and perhaps more How to videos as well.
Very good watch, and it's interesting to see just how little you get, I suppose to be able to live off CZcams, you need around 100k subs ?
You deserve to be able to do this full time if you wished.
All the best.
I would say so Marc yes. I have a friend who has a Sci-Fi channel with 500,000 subs and he's bringing in around £5000 a month. So 100,000 is probably a figure where you'd be earning enough to live off without any other income.
I'm 45 and have just started uploading running videos. 10 subscribers at the last check (mainly family and friends who feel obliged to subscribe!! 😂) 150 views is best video so far.
I always come back to your videos when trying to pick up (steal) tips to make them more interesting.
I enjoy the process of making the videos, and have come to appreciate how much effort and planning is required for each one.
As everyone has already said, you should have way more subscribers, but I'll be here enjoying you content as long as you are putting it out there 👍👍
It's a long road but it doesn't have to be as long as my journey. Create the right content and people will find you very quickly. Good luck and above all enjoy it.
@@FilmMyRun I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Thank you. 👍🏃🏻🏃🏻👍
My feelings are hurt I did not make the list at 1:57 I started my running channel I think to the day, 1 year before you. We should chat sometime!
Haha sorry man. I left so many out that I never knew existed!! Shows how saturated the running CZcamsr market is these days. I must admit my list is probably more UK skewed as I’m guessing there are hundreds of smaller CZcamsrs like me in the states.
@@FilmMyRun Seth and Mike(Ko) and I all started in the same way, just doing family day to day stuff and pivoted to all running. Ouch on the never knew I existed lol kidding, i have seen your videos pop up on my feed several times snf today 2 times. I relate to your story, I have not always been consistent and it showed as others I was peers with passed me (the two I mentioned) but they deserve all the success! I refocused about 4 years ago and have seen good growth, just have to keep providing value to the community!
Very insightful Stephen. What do you mean by 'taking things more seriously'? Was that in the events you chose to enter or the production values?
Id be really interested if you could recommend a self-teach resource on how to produce better videos.
Current we're using Movie Maker Pro, which my daughter tells me she used in school about 8 years ago. 😂
If you find out let me know :) That said I kind of think it is observing which videos you like the most yourself and getting some ideas. For instance have noticed with race vlogs that doing a voice over can be a very effective way of making seemingly random bits of footage seem far more compelling. "Jog On" Harry Morgan is very good there and increasingly Stephen as well. Think there is also a big difference between a "good" video and one that also has mass appeal and the latter is usually seemingly rarely about running in relative terms! My best performing videos have been ones that seemingly have had ongoing traction from search so there can be a bit of a game there. Best advice I heard though was to make videos you would like to watch yourself otherwise think motivation soon dips.
IMO re your channel, which I recently un-subscribed from. The reason? You started to swamp my video feed with video shorts of pointless footage, no one is interested in a 30 sec video of a man/woman running past a statue or river or anything really. Did I enjoy your longer content? Yes most of it, but the Video Shorts which many channels mis-understand and over use, wreck your channel. Something else you may or may not wish to consider, is these hundreds of pointless shorts, stop viewers finding your full length content, ie the good vids are buried by junk shorts. A recipe for subscriber destruction..
@@astarrastar341 thank you for your honest feedback. We hadn't realised that being relatively new to shorts. We will only post shorts in the future that are relevant to the main content.
@TimGrose yes, I absolutely agree with producing videos we want to watch and picking out bits from channels we enjoy. I'm wondering how much slick production grows a channel versus the actual content of what you're showing.
@@tworunningbrooms good question. I often get puzzled by comments saying great production but no actual comment on the content as if that viewer could not care less. Personally I often skip past the “arty” bits and look for the next audio part actually telling me something. I do think audio quality is very important these days otherwise I do tend to click off.
