Well I guess I suck at platformers, because I die a lot, even as Funky. Yes, there are sections where being Funky makes the game drastically easier, but there are also sections where it basically doesn't help at all.
Passing as I have it for the wii U and the switch version is full price. If the game drops dramatically in the next couple of years, I will double dip. Until then, no. If I didn't own a wii U, it would be an immediate buy.
Buying it right after work.

About Funky Mode being too easy - you can go into that mode and switch your kong to just get the extra life, lower item costs, extra item in-level, and the other non-funky abilities but not the like no spikes or slow fall thing.
Never played it before but playing it now and loving it.

Really nice video Zach n Gabe. I am 50/50 on getting this again on the Switch, I have played it already on the WiiU but it is probably the best platformer of recent times. 4th Edge Out.

For what got added and the age of the game it should retail at $40 on Nintendo Switch. Maybe if they added some extra content I would say $50 is justified but for $60 this game deserves a lot of extra content! Worth $60 if you’ve never played. Worth $30 if you’ve played on Wii U and don’t have access to it anymore. Worth $10 for the new content of 720p upped to 1080p in docked, better fur graphics, Easy Mode, and Funky Playable on Easy. I think something that would have been cooler is if Funky wasn’t an easy mode but just an alternate option. Maybe in World 4(water world)there is a secret exit that instead of revealing an A/B level it reveals Funky’s Surfboard! Give it back to him and he will be over joyous and join you! You can pick him and he has the same health as DK so you get extra abilities but are sacrificing maximum health! I feel like that would be a good balance and if they did things such as adding a couple secrets exclusive to Funky such as an area super deep in the water that you can’t reach unless you have infinite oxygen! Even just putting that effort in alone alongside what was already done and getting a full 720p in Handheld I would say would make me feel way better about the $60 price but because Funky is just on easy mode and seen as an easy character it’s lame because they didn’t do anything to fix any of the problems that actually were prevalent as if they did the game would be way better! Adding easy mode does help with accessibility but honestly games are supposed to challenge you and as a kid it annoyed me playing the newer Mario games as they were too easy! So newsflash Nintendo: Games for kids should be challenging too!

Okay so, i've played this game on the Wii U already (but didn't manage to finish because i had limited time), so i will buy this again for my Switch without a doubt. I've always been a Donkey Kong fan, so for me, if i hadn't played it, i would definitely picked this up (even before Mario and Zelda), but that's a personal preference. I played DK:Country 1 & 2 on the SNES and i'm really happy i got the SNES mini so i can play the first one again. I've also bought this through virtual console on the Wii U and i still have my Wii U for these type of games. I also have Dr. Mario and Luigi, so i'm very happy that i kept my Wii U :-)

I bought the Wii U version when it came out, but I never passed the second world because I was not a fan of the controllers. I picked it up full price because having it on the Switch for portability is a must for me just because I find the soundtrack to be second to DKC2.

Wow thank u I'm so glad i found this ch instant sub by 5m in I knew I had to sub cuz idk any other reviewers who answer these questions instead of the typical 5 topics like looks sounds gameplay e.t.c n then they give a final score but it leaves all of the other questions I like the rapid fire simple questions that'd be the ones I'd ask ppl that play it what I'd like in a review instead ppl don't know how to review anything these days lol. I love donkey Kong I remember playing one on the original Wii "i forgot which one" and I loved it! Can't wait to get this one! Also never played it on Wii u and only played my brothers Wii u

i'm loving the ports and bundles, i just wish they wouldn't do the online downloads... i would've gladly bought bayo 1 and 2 again if 1 wasn't a download... wish they would've just added multiple cartridges
I've now bought both of Retro's DKC games twice now (Wii/3DS, Wii U/Switch). Great purchases.
Honestly every great Wii U game needs a Switch port, they don't deserve bad sales just because of horrible hardware not many bought.
I already had it for Wii U, but I technically got it for free along with Smash Bros. in a Black Friday deal back in 2014. I’ve already packed my Wii U away so I definitely bought it again. I love this game so much to purchase it again. It’s that good.
If you already played the Wii U version its not worth it, but if you're someone who didn't play the game on Wii U or just never got the chance do it is worth it the Switch Version is for you.

wow i was like 7 when i beat dkcr i was a beast.
I would have bought this at a reasonable price. Even at $30, it would have been a no-brainer. $60, I think, is a serious faux pas on the part of Nintendo. Bad enough that it is $10 more than the original release. Worse, it is $40 more than the most recent price on Wii U. Removing it from the Wii U eshop was really the icing on the cake, though. I've defended Nintendo's port pricing in the past, but this one is downright insulting. Not only is this a hard pass for me, but it is going to make me think very hard before buying anymore Wii U ports.
100% agree I would have supported it at $40 and maybe $50, but it being $60 and them removing it from the Wii U eshop makes it a hard pass.

$60 is definitely a lot for Tropical freeze but the fact is I’ve never played it on Wii U, so it was well worth it for me
i remeber i was litle and i was playing donkey kong country returns on wii and is was so hard but im glad i play this cuz now i dont suck at video games
I just noticed the HD rumble issue too and posted about it on Reddit and someone pointed out you guys mentioned this. Im playing in bed a very quiet room with low volume and it's SO jarring. I agree with what you said about the sound messing with your ears. It's such a horrible shrill metallic noise. I get that it's supposed to give you the feeling of the weight of DK when he's landing, but it's honestly doing the exact opposite of immersing me in the game. It just sounds so artificial and inorganic. Maybe I would understand if DK was a huge hollow vibrating robot filled with loose bolts and springs.
If just a little more content was added to this game then i would re-buy the game. As it is i will not re-buy the game again for the same exact experience. This should be $40.00.
At $40 it would sell twice as many copies.
Again I feel cheated being a Nintendo fan since i have already played all of these ports from the Wii U. Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad and now Tropical Freeze. I don’t mind the ports but i’m not paying full price for them.
Which is better to get on the switch? DKC TF or Rayman Legends. I neither played DK nor Rayman earlier, and as I want to play both, is one of them significant better then the other? Or are they both similar good in their own ways?
I absolutely adore this game, it's one of the greatest 2D platformers imho.. but I'm afraid it suffers from the same plight as pretty much all the N's big 'AAA' games / port's on Switch particularly the Eshop copies (the ridiculous high pricing!) Would love to own a copy & I'm craving to play again but there's not a chance that I'd ever pay the price that is currently being charged. I wouldn't be able to play it without feeling like the urine was constantly being extracted by Nintendo.. c'est la vie.
I always thought thought that rumble on my joycons was because I threw my controller a few times and I thought they were broken now and it was just sounding that way because I smashed them LOL
Random top tier Switch titles I’d recommend:
1) Metroid Dread
2) Super Mario 3D World
3) Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
I’d put games like Luigi’s Mansion 3 in there too but for simplicity’s sake try those 3 if you haven’t already.

Can you tell me if you can customize the A, B, X, Y? Can you make X and A jump and Y and B ground-pound?
I find it easier to use the JoyCons with the steering wheel. When i play games with my daughters we use them. You obviously don't need to steer but it's easier to hold and hit the L/R buttons.
my problem is that its in the Nintendo selects which makes it 20$ on the wii u so i dont think ill get it on my switch for 40$ dollars more

If you like 2D platformers, there are very few that reach Tropical Freeze’s level of quality. The only one that comes to mind is Rayman Legends.

The HD rumble issue he is mentioning is a bit difficult to explain, but it is there. It can get super annoying and to me it's a minor technical problem I hope they solve for the next iteration of Switch's, if any.
I got to play tropical freeze for a bit on wii u but never owned it. Think it's worth it since you can take it with you anywhere this time on switch

Well I have it on the Wii U, so no I’m not buying this again but if it was packaged with DK returns than maybe.. like switchforce said, if u never played it go for it. But for $60 that’s kinda expensive for a port tho for Funky Kong mode..

At 12:27, I agree that as hard as this game is, I would rather play it the normal way. I wouldn't get the same satisfying sense of accomplishment completing those levels in Funky Mode. I'd rather play the game the way it was originally intended to play.

I was confused and thought you were overreacting about the hd rumble at first but completely agree. Just started playing the game and immediately noticed that on the springboards you have to pound on. Yuck!

HD rumble in handheld is not always a good thing. Nothing crazy but sometimes it is too powerful/loud.
So, I have never played a Donkey game kong game before and the game doesn’t look polished enough for me. Two days ago I wasn’t even doubting about buying the game, but now I’m just not sure. I don’t own a Wii U and have little experience with donkey kong platformers. Is this €60 worth it for me? Try to convince me please.
renS Yes get it! People who’ve never played the game love comparing it to a basic mario game, when it’s so far away from being that. The visuals are absolutely stunning, the music in every DKC game is always excellent and memorable, original version of DKCTF for Wii U is great, but I found myself loving to play as funky more thank DK himself. The resolution is up’d to 1080p on docked mode and looks amazing on both tv and mobile mode. Gameplay is actually pretty hard, but not the frustrating kind of hard. The boss battles are actually very well balanced and challenging. It’s a game you could always pick up and go and never really get bored or tired of. There are new collectibles which is cool, the game is honestly super polished, I really recommend buying and it giving it a try, if you don’t end up liking it then i respect that, but at least try(:

It doesn't look polished enough for you? These are some of the smoothest visuals available... And all the mechanics work flawlessly within the game. I just think someone is entitled is all. I'm glad this game came with my used Switch I bought, so I *didn't* have to pay $60 myself, BUT, I damn well would have because this game is so beautiful.
Never had the Wii U so I never played this game on that system but it is really fun on the Nintendo switch lite

Didn't grab this for the WiiU for some reason, so ill probably grabbing this eventually (I still need to get Mario) but this month is all about Hyrule Warriors for me. :)
It's my first Tropical Freeze experience so I'm good with handing over $60. I played it for 2 hours. But I like the original 3.

Funky Mode is for people that have small kids - i play normally, but my nephew is 8 and normal mode is too hard for him. As far as double dipping you prob forget that 94% of Switch users doesn't have Wii U.
There's also personal pref - i love it, and i don't like racing games + i don't like Splatton2 (it's good game, but i don't like the paint shooting).

If you like platformers it’s essential even if you have it on wiiu there is no better platformer on switch so just get it again. Best platformer ever in my opinion. And funky mode is genius.

For people who complain about the price why not just join the Best Buy gamers club unlocked and then get 20% off getting it under $50 and maybe in a few months if it drops to $40 on a sale you could get it for about $30
I was young when this game came out now I am at he same spot in the game we’re I left off.
I bought it for the first time on Switch and I’m loving it. Got $87 for trading in Bayonetta 2, Mario Odyssey, and BOTW so I didn’t have to really pay anything of my own money for DK 😁
I regret nothing. This is the best Nintendo game I’ve played since GameCube.

Not really if you played Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Orginal Wii then again they improved the background and breathtaking levels in Tropical Freeze so I'm not sure on this one.
Awesome video, I think I'll pass on this one for now. Never played it before, never had a Wiiu but spending nearly 70 bucks on a port is pushing it over the edge for me.

@@bk7064 honestly that’s up to you cause I’m not forcing you to get it. But I highly recommend this game to experience it for yourself. It’s way different from Mario. Cause this game could be really hard but that’s where funky mode comes in hand and it has beautiful crafted levels and good soundtrack. But that’s up to you though.

The game isn't "that" hard. That secret levels are and later levels can get hard but the game is not as hard as everyone says it is. I had 50 lives though most of the game and I never bought any items. Maybe it's harder than I remember. It has been a long time since I played it. I didn't get 100% but I still did a lot.
I have such a backlog of games I purchased during Switch Estore sales. I also started playing Xenoblade so I will pass on Kong.

You only died twice in god of war. Sounds like someone was playing on the lower difficulty.

I personally LIKE that Funky Mode is easy. It makes the game accessible to people like me who have enough frustration in their lives that they don’t need their fun leisure activities to be frustrating too. Why complain about Funky Mode being too easy? If it’s too easy for you, then don’t play it.
