    Off-roading (ie: rock crawling) folks often disconnect the sway bars to improve "articulation". FWIW: My 2000 TJ auto trans w/4L 🙂 can easily be rocked from side to side also.. The steering box "adjustment" can cause it to wear faster, Ford trucks are notorious for this.

    Let that son of yours do the wrenching. It’s the best way for him to learn & he’ll thank you for it later on in life!!!!!!!!!

    Morning Brock, the way I taught my boys how to work on cars when they were young. I would have them watch me do something.. for example.. I would show them how to replace the brakes on one side then I would have them do the other side while I watched and stepped in if needed or answer questions they had. Great memories and bonding time.. you two are going to have a great time working on the jeep and something to be proud of.

    Haven't even watched the video yet but as a former repair shop owner I can tell you everything in that front end is worn and contributing to your sway. Worn doesn't mean worn out or unsafe but If you want it tight replace everything.

    If the tires are larger than stock it helps to install a steering damper to help control steering shake. I just rebuilt the front of my lifted Dodge RAM 2500. New control arm bushings, steering damper, ball joints, sway bar links, and a new dropped pitman arm as my truck is lifted.

    Good morning Brock. If it's still shimmying a little at a certain speed you might want to try having the tires and wheels balanced. God bless and have a wonderful day. 👍👍🙂

    Howdy Brock! Well... I'm totally out of my element here. If I am severely lacking in any skill set it is auto repair. So YT is my friend lol. Learning a lot though!
    I bought a 3 pack of Rust Patrol not long after you made the demo vids. I've been impressed - they have worked exactly as promised. So they get the coveted Cowboy Steve endorsement 😁Of course that endorsement and $10 will get you a cup of coffee... so... Nicely done and thanks for sharing 🤠

    If you want some help, please reach out, and I'll be glad to help you out.
    Like how to correctly adjust that top stud on the box and diagnosing your wobble issue.

    Yes Jeep sway is normal. I just drove a brand new 2024 Jeep Gladiator and the body roll is so bad it feels like you could easily roll the thing over at highway speeds. I handed the keys back to the salesman and said, thanks but no thanks. These vehicles are made for off roading and getting a good road ride is tough.

    There should be another adjustment on the other shaft on the steering box to get the rest of the slack out of the box. A vehicle that old I would replace all the bushings and rubber parts in the front steering and suspension. Should get those tires checked and balanced so you know you don't have a bad tire screwing with you.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I want to upgrade all of the steering and suspension components overtime but it was starting off looking for things that were obviously bad and needed replaced before I allow my son to drive.
      Sounds like the steering stabilizer and track bar might be a couple of the first things to change

  • @BENNHENDRICKS33
    @BENNHENDRICKS33 Před 8 měsíci

    Even if the shocks appear good id still change them you just never know if one of the 4 is bad and causing ride issues. 55 mph into a curve with weak components can be sketchy. I would also buy a good steering stabilizer. Repairing jeeps takes a whole different line of thinking than cars. Totally different animal. I have a JL and have owned several over the years and this is just from expiernce.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  Před 8 měsíci

    Shocks and springs, unless you're planning a suspension lift ,it can wait until then.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  Před 8 měsíci

      From what I’m seeing, I can do a 2 1/2 inch spring and shock only lift that doesn’t require me to change everything else

  • @gregmckenney1715
    @gregmckenney1715 Před 7 měsíci

    You might try a new steering stabilizer. That the shock looking thing on the steering linkage. If that is the original to the Jeep then it is probably worn out.

    Working on it "together"??? Ya need to let the lad turn a wrench & feel how tight.... or use a torque wrench. Just watching you is not very fun! LOL!
