  • Here's this week's ASMR version of my teapot making video. If you'd prefer to watch the version with an informative narration, you can find it here: ( • How to Make a Ceramic ... ). Otherwise, for those who enjoy the sounds from the studio, this ones for you.
    Timecodes:
    0:00 - Introduction
    0:32 - Throwing teapot body
    3:30 - Throwing lid
    5:01 - Throwing spout
    7:45 - Trimming and assembling teapot
    20:19 - Pulling and attaching the handle
    25:17 - Packing the electric kiln for a bisque firing
    27:26 - Unpacking the electric kiln
    28:02 - Waxing the teapot
    29:37 - Glazing the teapot
    33:19 - Rolling out the waddings to prop up the lid
    34:03 - Packing the gas kiln
    34:49 - Firing the gas kiln
    37:32 - Unpacking the gas kiln
    38:27 - Grinding the lid smooth
    39:18 - Sanding the base
    39:42 - Finished teapots
    My wadding recipe is: 50% china clay/kaolin, 50% coarse alumina hydrate. Mix together slowly and then combine with water very slowly, as it seems to turn to a liquid very easily, so add less than you think.
    The gas kiln is a Rohde KG-340, and my potter's wheel is a Rohde HMT 500.
    Thanks for watching!

    I have one question good sir how did the color go from reddish brown to turquoise, did you color it or did the heat reacted to the pottery on its own?

  • @LesonaCrochet

    I love this kind of videos from you. My only wish is to stop speeding up some parts. Is so relaxing to see you doing this even if some parts are repeating (example: minute 7). I just wish everything was in real speed time not fast. Whoever is watching 40 minutes of this kind of videos i bet will be willing to watch 50 minutes also (if you stop speeding some parts). I am enjoying and when i watch i am getting in a specific mood but i am taken out of this mood by the high speed all of the sudden.

      @floriangadsby  Před 2 lety +2

      Well, it's hard to get it right. I think pacing is really important when watching videos like this and while you may like those very repetitious moments others might lose focus and click off from the video. I suppose for this ASMR version though you're right, they could be left out as it's more inline with the video concept as a whole. Thanks for the constructive criticism, I'll alter how I do it for my next upload :)

    I always wanted to do pottery but I have some back pain if hunched forward for a while, I wonder if every potter has to do the same position which they say is required :/ another hobby I can't do due to this freaking back. Anyone doing pottery with back problems? thanks :)

    • @floriangadsby
      @floriangadsby  Před 2 lety +3

      You can raise the wheel up on some blocks so that you stand and throw, rather than sit, works well from what I've seen. You can even sort of lean your upper body onto the chassis of the wheel to take some of the pressure off.
