Rodents Are Infesting Many Storage Units Across the Country

  • During the height of the pandemic, millions of Americans packed up their belongings and moved away. Many rented storage units, thinking their stuff would be safe. But customers Inside Edition spoke to say unwelcome rodents moved in while they were gone. So just how big of a problem are rats and mice in storage units? To see for ourselves, Inside Edition investigative producers rented units from Public Storage and U-Haul. After several weeks, we returned to see if any pests had moved in.

Thank you for saying this and also the storage unit can’t really help it because people rent units and leave food in the for example they will put a few things from there pantry that won’t soul thinking they will get it out quick and it’s too late

I already have bought storage units at auctions myself. I love to purchase the stolen possessions of people who lost their livelihoods and can't afford to pay their next month's rent then the company seizes their belongings and auctions them. It makes me feel so damn good when I purchase stolen property from the poor people who suffer financially. Opposite of Robinhood. Instead of stealing from the rich to give to the poor. We steal from the poor to make the rich richer.

No, this isn't true all the time. We had mice at our storage place years ago. We had to stay at an extended stay hotel for awhile and packed our things in storage. There was absolutely zero food anything in there because we brought it all to the hotel. When we moved into our new place, we discovered there were mice droppings all in our sleeper sofa under the cushions and a dead one inside the vacuum cleaner. Also there was some chewing damage visible to some boxes (no food inside). Basically, they were using our unit for shelter and if that "attracts" them, then we should never offer storage units as an option for families.
