War Nickels - 5 Reasons They Are AWESOME to Stack!

  • This video is all about war nickels and why they are an awesome type of silver to stack. War Nickels years are 1942-1945 and contain 35% silver. I share details on how to recognize them and why they are great to be stacking. If you have not considered stacking war nickels then I think you should give them a chance. I love war nickels and I will be stacking more of them in the future for sure! War nickels value are based on the spot price of silver. When the spot price of silver goes up then war nickels worth goes up. War Time Nickels NEED to be a part of every silver stackers portfolio in my opinion.

    You've got big points with easy recognition and lack of counterfeiting. My reason for war nicks, is that if there are ever currency problems, at current spot prices, a war nickel approximates $1 on barter. Everybody understands what a dollar is, and war nickels become de facto specie backed dollars for barter.
    The fact that they can be had under spot just adds to their allure.

    Finally someone that knows what they are talking about. I am 62 and have been collecting silver since 1974. I have vaulted and insured outside Austin Texas over 6000 lbs of silver. Wish it was gold but that's another story. I have over 300,000 war nickels and drawers are tripping over themselves to buy mine when I say how many I have. I recently sold 12,000 at one time for 3 dollars over current spot. All over uou tube you see these guys saying war nickels are a waste of energy snd time. Bull. Nothing other than kilo bars and above can I buy as close to spot as war nickels. Go look they are sold out everywhere. Don't believe what all these supposed experts are saying they are a little tough to manage due to weight but as far as pure buying close to spot and being wanted by everyone you can't beat them. I hope I live up see silver make its great run I've waited 50 years. If not that's ok my two sons can enjoy it.

      i had no idea at all silver was in any nickle at all, even in a family of US coin collectors, so this is HUGELY important info here. Regarding forms and sales, WHY DOES ANYONE CARE to do so in a country where they have been and are trying to destroy everyone and everything more than anywhere in the world?!?! The US agencies deserve zero respect zero obedience and zero fucks given. Has anyone ever seen the amount of banned toxins around the world in our food and drugs that are banned in the EU and allowed in US?

I will put these at the bottom of my safe with the canvas bag of Pre-82 copper pennies. I love both the silver and copper content of war nickels. Magnesium adds to the greasy texture. @@vonheltonscontradictions you’re just flat out wrong.
      The 9% manganese gives them an odd color but they are absolutely 35% silver.
      These have been around since WW2, and not insignificant numbers of them have since been melted down and refined. Bags of them have also, I’m sure, been weighed countless times now.
      If they did not actually contain 35% silver, someone else would have already discovered this decades ago.
      If you actually do have a 1943 that has been sent out, graded, and confirmed as not being 35% silver, you have an extremely rare error coin.

    This is a FANTASTIC video whose time has come! I've been trying to explain to people how valuable war nickels are for stacking, and you did a great job of it. I can't think of a single point you missed. I will add that since they usually have a nasty feel to them, I give mine a light buffing so they look better and feel nicer to the touch. I used to be diametrically opposed to anything that wasn't 90% (except .999) until one day I really researched war nickels and now I have about 1,800 of them. I like them primarily for barter. They have 1/18 oz. silver as opposed to 1/14 oz. for the dime. Mine don't take up too much room. I store them in the big cloth coin bags. I'm thrilled to see this video out there. Great job, SD!

    The war nickel is a nice coin, until now I have only one of them. I think they sell for such low prices in the US because the most stackers don't like coins with a low silver content, so it could be a little bit harder to resell them. Interesting idea to use them as weight for your safe.

    I figured out that with junk silver dimes, quarters, and halves, the equation is "price / spot / 0.715". So If I bought a $100 item when the spot was $25, I'd hand over a face value of $5.59 in junk silver, which rounds to $5.6. But War Nickels are different. What's the equation to determine the face value to buy things with?

  • @brandonblakney5671
    @brandonblakney5671 Před 2 lety +4

    I really enjoyed the video and used to believe stacking silver war nickels was a good idea. The problem came when I tried selling them. Most coin dealers tend to want to stay away from these coins given that they are a refiners nightmare. The 9% manganese composition of the coin can lead to manganese toxicity and the refiner will have to implement additional time and safety measures in the refining process (thus reflecting a lower buying price). Ultimately, they are just a huge pain for such little amounts of silver. With this being said, it reflects the price. It is the reason why you can buy these for spot or just a whisker under. If you're buying these anywhere near spot, from a major dealer or through a private sale, you are actually doing the seller a great service, as they would never be able to offload these to a dealer or refiner for anywhere near that price. From my experience in Canada and the U.S., most dealers will be buyers around the 0.25 cent/each price. Please stick to junk silver (90%) or bullion, you'll save yourself some money down the road, while growing your stack. Cheers!

    • @jzak5723
      @jzak5723 Před 2 lety +1

      big thanks for the insight on the manganese toxicity as being a reason for lower value!! i was wondering WTF could be the reason for the discrepancy in value-price...
      My life's mission is to stop and reduce everyone contributing to f*cking up the planet thru worldwide toxin exposure, but have you seen what the Africans and Indians and Asians are doing with all our e-waste to refine out precious metals? Surely manganese should be the least of anyone's concerns

  • @markjensen7091
    @markjensen7091 Před 5 lety +8

    I would add this to the whole "weight to your safe section." War nickels are handy to put in a "decoy" safe, which is your safe in the garage that is more visible. You have a 2nd safe that has the more valuable items in it (think silver bars, and gold). MOST criminals will not know the true value of the war nickel and would be less inclined to take those with them. So put those in your "decoy" safe and also fill it with clad Ike's and rolls of coins. This way the criminal walks off with "worthless coins", and you still have your ounces of silver coins, bars, etc... protected.

    Dealers hate war nickels. The refiners don’t want them and the dealers pay less than spot, way less than spot. I had a binder of war nickels that I didn’t want anymore. So in 2011 when silver was going through the roof I sold all of them for a hefty premium. So now that I’m out of them, the only war nickels that I would buy is the ones in MS and some that I can upgrade in my collection.

    So here's my thing, how liquid are these to sell down the road, sure you get these cheap, it sounds like dealers don't like these, so when it comes time to cash out, I feel I would be stuck with these because the dealer probably wont be interested in buying them from me unless I undersell back to him or her at underspot value most likely.
