- This session I hit a wild part of the canal in search of one of my all time favourite course species. The Tench! In the hopes of catching my first one or two of the year. I go through my methods and tactics before getting into the fishing and catching some real quality fish! Hope you enjoy!

The red dots on the 1st Tench is marks that they get from being damaged whilst breeding during the spawning season. They are a minor thing that clears up pretty quickly. Great video, thanks.
Do you have a source for that? I have never seen this before in over 30 years of fishing, I plugged the symptoms into ChatGPT and it had this to say:
"Tench with red spots could be an indication of a bacterial infection called "red pest". This disease is caused by the Aeromonas salmonicida bacteria and is commonly seen in fish populations in freshwater canals. The red spots are actually areas of internal bleeding and are a result of damage to the fish's blood vessels caused by the bacteria. The infection can be fatal if left untreated, so it is important to monitor fish populations and take appropriate action if red pest is suspected."
ChatGPT being ChatGPT, I asked if there was any other cause:

You say this is due to damage, how does that manifest? I would expect a couple of bigger areas of damage rather than hundreds of tiny spots? No?

Mine are just highways for barges. Can’t go for 10 minutes without one sailing through
Chop a tree down and make a swim 😂 there's always fish to be found though. Fish on a wide bend somewhere on your canal, using bread on the bottom. Try different spots until you find a few good ones 👍 GL
honestly mate thats what its like near me, but most of the fish I catch are in the middle of no where, maybe by the odd tree. Nothing like these YT videos portray. I think I've caught one fish by a lock/bridge in the last 7 months.
Theres only 2 canals in Ireland. And both very over fished. Lots of fish like small rudd/roach /perch. Watching ginger years an always amazed the quality of the canals. From my experience here the big rivers/lakes hold the larger fish.
The canal near me is pretty much dead, aside from pike and roach. It used to be full of perch and carp with a few tench and bream. Years ago I even caught a couple of either sea trout or salmon parr in it.

Try the Forth and Clyde canal .There is a coarse fishing venue in Cumbernauld and another in Livingstone.🐟😎

Great session chris. I am camping this week had my first tech session yesterday on the camp pond biggest about 3 half pound .another twelve or so of small tench around a pound . but great to be doing a little with the rod. Cheers chris..

It's that time of year again Chris!☺ Great to see you targeting the Tench. I'm suprised you didn't drop some mashed bread into the first swim to see how the Tench reacted. You could have had it as your Plan B and gone back there for the last hour. Hopefully I will be in amongst the Tench on Sunday, fishing on a new lake that I've never fished before but have heard some stories of the resident Tincas.☺

Not exactly over endowed with canals here in Sussex but I had 10/12 Tench plus a few Crucians and Rudd on a club water last week. Always amazes me that I'm usually the only one there until about 10 o'clock!!!! They've missed the best part of the day.
10 o clock? It must be dark by then. Does your club water allow night fishing?

The one fish me and my mates hate catching is the canal bream, we call them slimers and they slime your net and line and make them stink.

Sitting in Australia, I have never seen a fish look like that what you call a bream. Knowing nothing about them , it looked as though it just arrived from Proxima Centauri B.

Nice fish there mate ,I fish the canals and have all my life and prefer the challenge than sitting on a commercial where there guaranteed, I have a stretch outside my house ,I literally had 12 tench on the bounce from 2lb to 6lb , 2lb rudd 2lb perch etc look it up Pelsall canal they fight like hell, message me if you want the location would be good to see you film there 🤟
Daft question but how do you plumb the depth to know your fishing on top of the weed?
How do u keep ur float in 1 spot everytime I cast it ends up coming back to me even with a little weight on the bottom
Fantastic tench - beautiful fish. One question; why hair rig the corn? I see the need for a hard bait like a pellet but trying to understand with this. Thanks and keep ‘em coming!
He's using a size 14 hook so maybe thinks the fish could be hook shy. Probably better presented on a hair rig anyway.
@@CB-xr1eg fair enough - I don’t do them that often to be quick or good. Haven’t really had an issue with corn and a 14 but who knows, could do better - will give it a go!

How come you can fish your canals when the season is of I live in Norfolk and I’ve been stopped multiple times fishing on the canals telling me I’m out of season I don’t get it 😂
