    Wow. So relaxing. Nice gear Larry. I gave my wannigan away because I found it too awkward to carry. Gorgeous canoe(again) Thanks for taking the time to film and share. Love how you always seem to be so relaxed.
    I took my cedar strip to Jubilee last October, stayed on the site with strange rocks (site farthest southeast) We went rain daisy petawawa misty and back via jubilee. Great loop.
    Looking forward to your next episode, and seeing where your paddle takes you. It'd be great to run into you some time. Maybe Bonnechere in October?

    • @LarryHyett
      @LarryHyett  Před 7 lety

      Thanks Harley. That sounds like the same loop I did. I stayed on Misty the next night, then went up the Petawawa through Daisy and down to Casy where I stayed for two nights and then back to the car. I've been meaning to get to Bonnechere. Maybe October!

    Hey Larry: That's a spiffy canoe. Something to be really proud of. I'm sure she will get only the best of care. Sure looks like a great trip ; thanks for bringing me along Brian 77

      Thanks Brian. Yes, I really like her. It's hard not to get the odd scratch on her though but to me that becomes part of her charm.

    Nice wannigan! We stayed on Jubilee last year, just across from the site you're on, beautiful little lake.

    The video was published July 27th, but if you mentioned when this trip took place, I missed it. At a guess, earlier in July? Definitely a helpful video for trip planning. Thanks!

      My Self Reliance thanks Shawn. I do like the traditional style gear. I'm a bit of a romantic I guess. Either that or a sucker for punishment.

  • @IanYoungOutdoors
    @IanYoungOutdoors Před 7 lety +1

    Looks like a nice start! I like the classic style you've got going on. The canoe, the wanigan and the pack all could be from 100 years ago, but the GoPro and InReach says "I'm sophisticated but smart" haha. Looking forward to the rest

    Good stuff Larry! I'd literally never heard the word 'wanigan' before this video. Fortunately I don't have to debate whether or not to build one for myself since I couldn't fit it in my kayak anyway. Looking forward to the next part!

    Hi Larry, great video! How much does your wannigan weigh empty? Also where did you get your tumpline?

    • @LarryHyett
      @LarryHyett  Před 6 lety

      The wannigan weighs about 6 kilos (13lbs). I got the tumpline from a guy in Temagami Ontario who makes them for the camps up. there. It would be fairly easy to make one yourself though.

    • @evap67
      @evap67 Před 6 lety

      Thanks for your response, I was focusing on going the Joe Robinet, Shawn James route and lightening my pack for single carries, but then I re watched your video and decided to make a wannigan for my spring solo. Comfort over speed at least for this one. Hope to see you in the park one day, I have learned a lot from your videos. Hopefully you are planning a trip soon, take care.

    • @LarryHyett
      @LarryHyett  Před 6 lety

      I know exactly what you mean and thanks very much for the comment. The trips I do with my brother tend to be more minimalist so we can do single carries, but I do like to be comfortable when I'm out there and I'm not trying to set any records - just enjoy the outdoors. When I'm solo I have to double anyway because my boat is heavier (I know younger, stronger folks could do it single, but I am wary of hurting myself solo) so I don't skimp if it means I can add a degree of comfort. I'm having a campfire tent (similar to the one Bill Mason used) made right now that I think will add even more to my trips, especially on rainy days. I hope to get out on a nice long solo trip this summer and use it together with the wannigan.

    You've turned into a CZcams sensation since I last watched your films!
    I've got a bit of time now so I'm trying to catch up. On to eps2.

    New sub, followed over from Scott's channel, via Joe R's channel. Winter has set in. Looking forward to open water but will enjoy the ice and cold. If I watch enough Canadian canoeist I may pronounce portage your way.

    • @LarryHyett
      @LarryHyett  Před 6 lety

      Thanks for the sub! I do like the open water as well, but there's lots of fun to be had in the winter as well for sure!

    i've been looking at an inreach as well. I do a lot of fishing, ice fishing, and trapping and not all areas have cell service. And a simple text to the loved ones would be nice to be able to do.
    looks like the weather was good this trip.

    • @LarryHyett
      @LarryHyett  Před 7 lety

    I've had the Inreach SE for about 3-4 years? Since it came out.. used it for a few dozen trips since then. Never had a problem. Even forgot it on a train once and tracked it back to the specific car in the trianyard :)
