Well take it down to the frame and rebuild everything to spec from the ground up. $100k should be a good start and still cheaper than a new dozer. :-) I have seen little cats restored but never a D9. The time has come!

Parts are bigger, taller, heavier and are way more spendy but they can move much more dirt. Also if you fall off you are usually higher off the ground so it hurts more .... Jeff ! There are a lot more heavy parts so there are a lot more finger pinchers n shin scrapers.
Dang ... Jeff is good with this old stuff .... it's all the little things that you learn over the years that can save your butt when buying that older equipment. He will make back anything he puts into D9H within two years and have a D9Honey of a rig.
Paint it with Black strips n Cat yellow n call it HoneyBee!

I’m old and retired but I miss operating heavy equipment it was a big part of my life starting in Vietnam. Always wanted to run a CAT D9, but never got anything bigger than a CAT D7E or a IH TD18. You are a lucky man. God Bless and be safe!❤️🙏🇺🇸

Don't feel too bad, I run 10s and 11s everyday or night depending on the shift. Sometime they're over kill for the project. I miss the 8s and 9s but really miss the 6 with the wide tracks, those were pure joy. Not too many can say they've run thee old IHs, that's unique in itself. Still loves my old 30s and 40s cable machine the best. Thanks for your service!

If it has bad cylinder rods , get them re - chromed maybe.
I use to run a old TD 15 IHC that has bad cylinder rods , leaked some when using not to bad , no chrome left on rods and would rust when parked not being used , so I would coat with grease and then clean off and polish with emery cloth before running it the next time , some times it would set mouths between jobs.

Might be less expensive to buy a big lathe for the shop to re rod all those cylinders since you already have welders. Even if you put the lathe in a van trailer or container to keep the lathe work grime out of the shop. If it's a former insulated container or trailer it might be better. Only thing would be isolated landing gear and a second set but the icc bars to allow the trailer to be leveled easily.

damn bro. This is going to take some time to get back running good. You didn't mention the drive sprockets are worn down to the nub too. I don't know where this is being used, but another thing to keep in mind is that every scratch turned to rust. I wouldn't just wax this thing over, I would wirebrush and paint. the rust is everywhere. the track adjuster and arms are just rusted over pretty bad. if you want to keep this running, you'll want to get rid of that

Will the new Dozer jump to the front of the line in front of your car or old Kenny?

the 9h for it's age doesn't look all that bad. i spent some time in 3 different ones back in the late 70's into the mid 80's. i didn't care for them as i thought they lacked the power compared to the 9g models i had ran before.
our running boards got bent like that, from guys side cutting too deep-and rocks falling on the tracks, then they got caught underneath there. some fellas had to use a chain and front end loader to pull the rock back out. i was taught not to side cut any deeper than the height of ur blade for that reason, but sometimes u just have to risk it.
hoping for a series on fixing the ole girl up coming up, brings back a lot of meories for me, not go buy a 31, 41A and B model, a D-10n--D-11n & R model's--that will round out the large dozers i got to run in my lifetime-ha!!

Looks like this old girl has found her “Forever Home”. I think this unit has been flogged for a number of years. Then the usual maintenance list gets so long that the owner just says “Aw, screw it” and here we are. I guess the temptation is to load all the cylinders up and take ‘em to a shop. It’s not like there’s nothing else to do on this thing. I still like it. Like you said, the undercarriage makes it worth it. Severe duty grousers too!

Nice one Jeff. Are you going to fix her up or do a renovation ?
