Sincerely appreciate you doing this video and mentioning the engine price. i found a 2008 Yukon xl with 242k miles, but it was tight and well maintained. The engine stopped one day at a traffic light and the shop that got it wanted to charge me $10,000 for a used motor swap. I opted for a new timing chain and oil pump (made sure they did the o ring) and that cost me 3200. I got it towed home and after charging the battery, it still didn't engage the flywheel when I tried to start it. I'm getting killed on this $6000 purchase, but I think I'm going to find a different mechanic to see what he says the problem is. $1300 for a motor. sheesh. I was thinking two grand, but still 10k. Glad I didn't let him change that one. I may just work on it myself. Worst case I'd need heads.

I'm looking into to rebuilding my 2010 tahoes engine. I've had it since 2014 I bought it with right at 90,000 miles on it. As of today 6 November 2022 I have 226,000 miles on it still running great. I havnt had any major issues just regular maintenance. Imma go for 300,000+ miles then tear it down. Luckily I havnt had any issues with my transmission either. I did have my transfer case go bad. Bought a used one put it and everything is going good

Thank you! It was a bit hard.
Having a friend to help with the process, I think you can get it done in 1 full day with zero hiccups, proper tools, and with this video guiding you.
However, in my case, not including working on the other engine, I think it took probably 20-25 hours.
The total amount of footage I had was around 15 hours.
The putting back to get her took a while, but it was much quicker, especially since I didn’t record. Torquing down the converter with the flex plate took a while and proved to be the most difficult in my case.

I have an 07 same exact truck..has afm and has stuck lifter..140.000 miles..I can change lifters to regular ones and lifter trays..new head gaskets, new head bolts...but you have to change the cam..so then oil pump, timing chain, gaskets..... UGG....junkyard has 2005 lm7 5.3 for 450$...160.000 on it....he's a friend....then u can get low lift cam and not have to change springs...cam swap is easy on ls....don't have to take heads off....but still timing and oil pump,,o ring....a must like he says....or just have it swapped...1200-1400...either way it's 2 grand or more....it's a pain to do like this but these guys did great job...I'm debating ????? Or can go buy a 6.0 w 360 hp on craigslist or junkyard and just put that in...3000 g buy the time it's done....it all sucks....but gotta be done....now it's just a budget thing because I have no fkn money because my everything cost so much.....think I'm going to just do myself....can take out, clean it up take down to heads and block,..o ring,.new gaskets ,paint....then its a 1000.…

The issue with this engine was also a lifter. If I knew that then I would have just removed the heads and replaced the lifter and cam. Would have been much cheaper and less labor intensive. The LS engine is one of the easier engines to take apart.

Tight squeeze to get the bolts, they are very shallow and you have to constantly turn the crank to get to the next bolt.
