I had to laugh because I replaced the engine in my 2010 Tahoe recently, and I bought the exact same engine hoist and stand as you put together at the beginning of this video. It all seemed so familiar!
I'm about to do mines it's so expensive at a shop they are telling me everything will be 7k
I'm a bit jealous of that climate, everything looks like it just rolled off the line, up here in the salt belt everything is just falling to dust, our rigs rust out before the engine shits... Usually lol
Seriously… I was just thinking the same thing. I would be looking at nothing but rust everywhere.
Well u guys made this super easy for me I kinda figured it wouldn’t be rocket science might take a me a few since it’s just my self can’t wait to get my ls in my obs
Awesome video, I wish you lived around the corner from me!!!!

Simply outstanding!👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
Oh, he means the video is 5 minutes long
It's my first time changing an engine so can I expect to do it in 15 minutes?
Had to replace the engine in my Volkswagen Jetta. A lot of people think changing an engine is hard, but honestly it’s pretty simple…..just super time consuming.
That's true, just did my jeep Liberty, and by myself. 8 was scared but now months to later. I'm happy with it.
I wish I was this good and confident with car repair I'm still on minor stuff
I don't bother locking up my car at night. I just remove the engine before I go to bed.
Where did you order the motor
Awesome Video Is there a way to determine which ls years are for which trucks>
they go by the 8th Digit of your Vin to have the Best Match is what i know
When aligning with the transmission do you raise it slightly up or it should slide in ??
Where did you get your new motor from
So how long did it really take???
I bought a replacement 5.3 motor for my Sierra I have a 2011 and it’s a 2013 replacement vin code is 7 original motor is three days they are direct fit. Question is should I use the computer on the new harness or can I keep my old one in ?
I have a 08 Escalade that spun a rod bearing. Swapped the motor out from a used parts shop and truck won’t start now. Any idea on where to start looking?
Missed plug perhaps. Did you replace it with an exact replacement from the same year,
That kat tho 🤤
Video time 2:04 what size bolt are these,Holding Engine to stand? Thanks in advance!
Very cool!! I’m assuming that was a used engine replacement? What condition was it in? Did it come with a warranty, just in case? Any improvements over the original engine?
It was a direct replacement. The only "improvement" is that I installed fresh gaskets and parts to it. I think it had a 30 day warranty off of eBay. Could probably buy one from the local salvage yard for cheaper.
he saving money 💰
How much was the engine and how long was the swap? Im reaching close to 300,000 miles on my 4.8 thinking bout swapping for a lower milage engine.
These 4.8s in these trucks for the years are a bit difficult to find for a direct swap, so I had to buy it off of eBay. I think I paid $1200. The swap took a week to do. If I dedicated all day for several days, it could take 1-2 days, especially with a friend and the right tools.
Great Video! I have a 2007 Avalanche 5.3L; I'm thinking it should be the same..
The turtle 😂
How manny actual hrs/days ? went into doing the swap ?
The hours were scattered because I slowly worked on it as I waited for the motor. I’d said I put in a total of 2-3 days. First time doing it
Sooo I want to swap my 5.3 out for a 6.2 in my Yukon and I’m no mechanic so would it still be just a basic swap as in snatching old motor out and replacing it or would I have to change something else
The 6.2 will probably have a few different wires and need a different computer. Not 100% sure though
I’ve been working on pulling mine and the transmission won’t let go of the engine. Think I pulled out 8 bolts, pretty sure that was all of them
Recheck my friend. I thought mine was out too, but there are some hidden bolts near the firewall.
you should do the dod delete in the ecm i got 221000 miles with no problems other them when i turn it up it breaks the rearend or the driveshaft them 10 bolts are just junk but good video man
It’s actually the 4.8L motor, which doesn’t have the AFM. Little bit less power, but it’s still has some get up and go
@@AutoMotivate 4.8 just a different stroke from what I recall, definitely the motor to have for this gen. Does 30 hp really matter in a big SUV that isn't a sports car?
Whats that blue mat that he put before driving the car on it
@@AutoMotivate it does stop or something like that from falling on ground?
It's to catch any oil/fluid drips so the driveway doesn't get stained @@noobstrom3279
How do you match the engines, to know what will be a direct replacement when buying a used engine specifically?
If the vehicle the motor comes from a different model, can that have differences in say wiring harnesses for example where it would be difficult to just swap the engine and plug everything in like it was on the old engine?
You have to make sure you are getting the same engine code. Look up how to look up your engine code and then find that said engine on eBay or a local picknpull
I want to pull mine out and refresh it, need another car tho
I was told that you had to do some sort of reprogramming when switching engines? You can't just put it in and start it up. True?
I am not 100% sure, but that would make since. The ECU is programmed to my 4.8L and its specific parameters. A 6.0 would breath quite a bit different.
@@AutoMotivate I'm sorry, I mean even the same direct replacement, same size, everything.
For a non-mechanical person, to save $7500 in labor, I was going to try and do it myself. Dumb idea? The swap I mean.
My friend and I replaced a V6 with a V8 when I was a teenager in a parking lot with no tools LOL We had to drill new motor mounts. That's the extent of my experience.
@AutoMotivate ah i was gonna say looks like it doesnt have dod which is always a plus its the good ol 4.8 lil brother lol🤣
❣️❣️❣️🥀
This video is sped up and edited it must have taken at least 10 minutes to swap that engine.😂
Probably could have ripped the head off passenger side literally have to remove only the exhaust manifold and intake so easy to do to swap a couple lifters and would have been fine turn off AFM of course
5 min or 5 days lol
Went to the dealership first, quoted $11,000 lol
Ok... Lemme see
: )
Bro this ain't no 5min it was time consuming letting your lady help you t build the stand for the engine g so I can see this is something that is going to be time consuming to do.
Seek Jesus! He’s the way! The truth! And the life! Repent for the Kingdom is at hand!
Dude how you gonna take one engine out n swap it with another junky engine
cus he paid 1,200 for a good engine. and a new engine would be more than twice that money
U should have put 6.0 lq4/lq9 in there instead this engine with faulty fuel active management system trash
The 4.8L is just as reliable as the 6.0. The 5.3L is what you are talking about.
However, if i did upgrade to the 6.0 I would also have to swap out the ECU and ect
@@richzhoo4236 if I knew I could have done that, I would. You might also want to consider the transmission. I’m not sure if it was built for that power. Some research should definitely be done before you spend the money on the 6.0
You forgot, “diy engine install in 5min, mechanic wanted $5k, I diy so I saved $5k….” Never mind the f’n stupidity of the above statement, it’s YT in 2024…facts and truth been gone, it’s above clicks and sticking yourself with selfiesticks!
Too all those who replace engine: RESPECT!!! 🙏
