I have rebuilt more than 40 Coleman's and other brand pressure lamps. Take that leather pump assembly and turn it inside out (don't take it off, just push it backwards on the shaft). Soak it in motor oil or 3 in 1 overnight. If it rips when you turn it, it "won't likely" matter. It'll swells as it soaks up the oil to where it won't matter when you squeeze it back in. Just what I've experienced. Keep those old lanterns glowing!

Thanks for the advise on the leather pumps. I may have been able to save that old one if I knew. Thanks for watching my video!

Some of these old lanterns are a little cold natured and like to be really warmed up before you apply full pressure.
Most likely you can save the old generator. They all get warped from the heat but don't effect them.
You can heat and quench with a torch and cool water multiple times until it's free and brush it out with a 22 caliber cleaning brush.
The newer Coleman mantles are not much these days. If you can find the older peerless mantles there the best. Peerless has a bad run a while back but I think they fixed the problem if I'm not mistaken.
I like the American mantel brand sold at Ace hardware.
Good to see another old lantern coming back to life.
Thanks for sharing and God bless.

Just got my deceased papaws 72 or 73 lantern can’t remember got it a week ago and wiped it down …in much better shape than this one on the video. Noticed the pump stopped working after cleaning most of it and it sat in the house all week. Had some old gas in it(probably from my deceased uncle that had used it 15 to 20 years ago”. So decided to oil the leather and pumped it up just lit it and is roaring like a champ. 👍🏻

That’s cool! Glad you got it going. Most of the time, I am able to get the old leather pumps working again with soaking it in oil. This old Coleman stuff is so robust! There are great Coleman resources on here on CZcams for collecting and rebuilding Coleman gear. You might also enjoy the Facebook group called Coleman Lantern, Stove, Collectors, Parts, Service, Fix, Repeat Forum. Folks post on there several times a day.

I found a 1979 one in my dads house. Used maybe once. Near pristine condition.

Great work in getting it up and running. You are a gentleman John in your offer to give it back. Big Heart!

Thank you for sharing. I appreciate old Colman products, too. Have 2 of those lanterns -- 220F that we bought new, when we first started camping. One is dated 8/71 and the other 4/72. They've served us well for camping, backyard cooking, and all the times hurricanes and ice storms took out the power. While we no longer go camping, they are on stand-by to be used, as needed to cast their light, as they've done for lo these many years.

I got a '66 200A for $8 at a yard sale and had to put an $11 generator and mantel in it. 4 years later (last month) I had to replace the fuel cap ($5). So I have about $25 total into an awesome lantern.

That’s a good one to have! The 200a I had in this video is my first single mantle I have ever had. Growing up, my family always used dual mantle types. They are a great little workhorse. I also have a 62 to rebuild in the future. I hope to start on that one soon. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

John you did good bringing it back to life. Shows what kind of gentleman you are by offering it back to guy who gave it to you. Just getting started on the Coleman's and love them. Also been thinking about ham and cb radios. My grandfather was big into the cb radios years ago

Way to bring it back to life. My camp is lit with solar lights, but a couple of those would be nice in the winter.

Awesome! I saw a ‘72 today at an antique mall... $24.00 I played with it for about 5 minutes, but I gathered up all my strength, put it down and walked away.... I don’t need another one! 🤣
