Dylan Talks Tone Recieves Commision From Some Of These Links - Hudba
Great review for a great guitar! You nailed it with your description. I'd add one thing that you may not be aware of... the '61 SG Standards typically come with a brown hardshell case. Gibson ran out of them and substituted the black SG modern cases for a while. My '61 also came with the black case and a note from Gibson indicating that. I actually prefer the black one and knew it would be black based on the photos on Sweetwater's website. One more thing I'd highlight when comparing the '61 to the regular large batwing Standard... the '61 is handwired as you pointed out but the regular Standard is PCB. Hope this helps....
As I mentioned, I bought the custom color '61 in Silver Mist and absolutely love it. I've wanted an SG in that finish ever since they used them on the Custom Shop versions. I added real Kluson Revolution (19:1) nickel keystone tuners on mine and replaced the lightweight aluminum stop bar with a Tone Pros locking Zamak one to give it some weight (the guitar was only 6 lbs 5 ounces when I got it). It sounds even better now if you can believe it and it resonates beautifully!
Great demonstration. Now I want a SG and I wish I could play like you. I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing your insights.
Good stuff Dylan. I'll bet it's so cool to try your hand at all this diff gear. You got a dream job my brotha!
It’s so good to hear from a man who specialises in pickups, that these sound good. Love the channel man. You’ve educated me a lot with so many things
That’s a beaut. I used to have a Les Paul Special in TV Yellow, wish I still did. That colour really suits the SG
I went with the color classic white on my 61 SG Standard. I absolutely 💯 love the 60s Burstbucker pickups.
It's a gorgeous guitar with a monstrous sound. I love the TV Yellow color.
My experience with Gibson in the last few years has been excellent. A 335, SG and LPJ in the last 18 months and each one played perfectly when I got them. That tv yellow surprisingly looks cool.
I bought a Gibson a few years ago and got lucky with a good Les Paul. I can’t detect any flaws
I have a ‘22 LP Studio, and it’s great. It’s a cherry burst, and the flame figuration on the top is better than I’ve seen on a lot of high end models, which is unexpected for a Studio. I’ll probably keep it forever.
I dig that TV Yellow. It rocks. Looks somewhere in between the Fender Butterscotch and Buttercream. But hard to exactly tell by photos but nice looking nonetheless. Nice seeing an SG thats not either the regular Cherry Mahogany or Black.
Picked up one of the Pelham Blue Burst SG Standards (non-61). It’s fantastic. Really impressed at how well put together everything is after years of Gibson horror stories. So glad I gave it a shot!
I like the translucent green in the new custom color series myself. I heard SG supremes are coming in the near future and I want to see what those are all about. Either way, there is definitely a another SG coming in my future.
Dylan, don’t know what rig you were running but that SG sounded really really good 👍
I purchased mine in Translucent Teal a little more than a month ago., more like Emerald Green if you ask me in color. I pulled the trigger because the color is different and 18 months interest-free. It's cool looking, sounds great, and is light. The neck is fast. NO QUALITY CONTROL issues. Just did a basic set-up, that's all.
Very nice woodgrain on mine, what a player and she can sound very clean bell-like tones and she can growl
if you want her to. I'm so happy that I have one. Dylan just get yourself one. Red is tradition of course but I own
the The Inspired by Gibson one in Red. I changed the PUPS on that one because, in my opinion, they were terrible. It sounds really good with the PUPS put in but it doesn't play at all like the Gibson or feels like one. I have been playing for many years, and even with the proper set-up, they are not the same. For 4 times the price it shouldn't no matter what changes you have to make. One is good, the other is great. TV Yellow to me looks great on The Gibson Les Paul Special, another great guitar of mine. Fat old 50's neck. To me, the thickness
of the neck doesn't matter, set-up and playing them is all that matters. The custom colors to me are a great move on Gibson.
Neck dive has always seemed to me as a phantom compliant as opposed to a physical phenomenon. Just hold the guitar properly and play it.
And get a good wider shoulder strap.. neck dive gone...
The vast majority of the time, neck dive isn't a thing. I have an 8 string schecter with extended range that weighs less than a strat and has ZERO neck dive. If there is some, use a wider leather strap, problem solved.
Neck dive isn't really a thing until it is. I never believed it until I experienced it myself on an SG. It doesn't happen with all of them, but when it does, it sucks.
@@newgunguy4176 that's why we should always try many guitars in person before we buy. Even if one is neck heavy there are plenty of ways to fix the issue. They are all pretty cheap too.
No one complains about body dive on a Les Paul! My 23 Standard 60’s is almost 10lbs and it always wants to slide backwards off my leg when I’m playing it seated. Meanwhile my 22 SG Standard ’61 doesn’t really have any much neck dive to speak of, and it is the most comfortable guitar to play that I own.
Neck dive is real and my 2023 Gibson SG Standard had it!!!
good strap
Nice review. Is the neck gloss, or does it have a satin(y) finish?
I’ve had mine on pre-order since the beginning of the year.
I have the Cardinal red burst version arriving tomorrow. Excited as it will be my first and probably last Gibson (I have a 59 Epi LP that I love). Got a great deal on it with $500 off the normal price so it made the decision of Gibson or Epi much easier. I owned an Epi SG several years ago that i liked but it did have a heavy neck and i eventually got rid of it.
I just got my first Gibson SG...2017 SG special. Then I got. 2017 SG Faded HP.... Yeah, I know, the robot tuner. But I've got a set of Grovers in my parts drawer for it. I LOVE MY SG 's!!!
Does the "TV Yellow" paint job make it sound better?
I got a cherry one in October 2019. Put locking klusons on it. U have to roll tone off bridge or its 2 bright. Other than that it was my first proper guitar.
Thank you Dylan and everyone. Not sure why Les Paul wasn't keen on SG !! 🧐
I wonder that too. He probably just wanted a more traditional look back then. Just guessing.
There's several different stories on that, one of them states that Les Paul didn't want his name on the new guitar so that he wouldn't have to share royalties with Mary, his wife whom he was divorcing at the time. But, c'est la vie!
Does the G string stay in tune?
I have two SG Specials and a Junior, and I fucking love them. Might have a P90 problem! Haha. Honestly, I like the 490 pickups better than the Burstbusters, but I'm glad that I have a Burstbucker guitar with my SG '61. Still tempted to get a regular Standard in Translucent Teal!
Mine came with the brown case and was set up perfectly. Absolutely not tooling marks and a flawless finish.
I'm digging it.
I just can't quite tell - is the yellow transparent or not?
Can you see the wood grain thru it?
Or is it a solid , block colour?
(I do hope it's the former!)
I think neck dive stops being an issue when you spend enough time with an SG, I use to struggle with my SG but now I know how to play it without any problem
Mine came with a brown case and my buddy got same 61 and that came with brown case as well
...gotta love it !...
Unfinished or suede leather straps solve neck dive issues for most guitars and can be had for at least 20 bucks. A 20 dollar d'addario leather strap works for my SG tribute, custom and schecter S-ii :D
Beautiful! Me want one…
Sweet!
The TV yellow has the look of cream from afar and then the surprise of the wood grain up close.
I love it
HA! i just got one and had a crack in the neck just below the fretboard so had to send it back! waiting for replacement…
Gibson SG for the win!!!
I was going to ask about neck dive.
But my Guild Polara doesn't neck dive and sounds as good .
I'll bet I've mentioned this before
Black hardshell case? My white 61 came in a brown hardshell case. Strange.
Why do so many of the Gibson SG DEMO guitars for sale have cracks at the neck / nut? Doesn’t Gibson know how to make a reliably built neck?
Mine came in a brown case.
Bought this in Blue but Bridge Volume has dead spot between 8-9 then on 10 volume returns. Way too new to need a Pot cleaning already. Love the guitar but that already worries me. Anyone else notice this issue. ?
Return it
Neck dive?.... It's just the SG taking a bow!
Nice to see Gibson taking proper care of the guitars it sends out for review. Maybe it’s just how it sounds on my phone, but sound wise I think it is in desperate need of a set of DAFs.
Shhh, now you ruined the surprise!
They should do TV Yellow on the budget SG's and 335's
just save up for this one
The whole neck dive ‘thing’ is such a joke really. I have three SG’s and they all feel fantastic sitting or standing, they are by far my favorite instrument.
SG’s are criminally underrated. I absolutely love my SG’s.
SG's have always been my most favorite guitars.
Think guitarists from: Original Alice Cooper band, Toni from Black Sabbath, black oak Arkansas, Mick box from Uriah Heep, Frank from mahogany rush, young from AC DC, early Pete from the Who.
Page with his double neck !
Never did see Randy with one 🤔
The list seems endless.
May have even seen the late great Jeff Beck with one a time or two 😊
Me too!!!!!. Love mine too !!
@@cclark5376 Randy did have one , but he had tuning issues with it.
They have great tone, are light, versatile, fast playing with easy upper fret access. It shocks me they aren’t more popular.
True but the average guy especially under the age of 35 does not really listen to guitar rock
Whew, that guitar's pretty enough to marry.🙂
Dylan gets as hyped about high end guitars as I do with cheap guitars and partscasters. Something for all I guess.
I get stoked about cheap guitars too. The Gretsch last week was awesome
Ah Dylan don’t play that QC laden piece of woody crap! lol! Color is sweet!
Neck dive solution….play it.
There is no such thing as neck dive. Like the man said, getta strap & quit crying....
I will admit I put Gibson classic tuners on my Guild ......
I replaced the Gibson tuners on my '61 SG Standard with Kluson Revolutions... huge upgrade to the Gibson classic style ones and cheaper.
God bless American made
But if there is no god, may the universe prosper in a positive direction
1.23 llevo de video solo estas presumiendo y publicitandote, aburrido
This guy must have a very lonely life
People are so dumb, Dylan had to give a lesson on how to hold a guitar…whats this world coming to 🫤
