i mean,the ko animation does not stop and puts them back on the stage. they still die. i know the official rulings,i just find it pretty lacking on the games part

I don't know much about competitive smash, but if I were to ever watch a stream it'd be these guys. They're self aware, seems like a chill environment, good sportsmanship, they got the perfect shot of kiwi's reaction, plus they had the replay set up. Based on this clip alone they seem like the perfect competitive smash group to be a part of.

It's almost like it's a subconscious attempt to win no matter what. Even a race off the stage.
from my experience, its a habit people get from online play. Most times that slight delay/frame buffer is what keeps you from dieing first. Then you get too comfortable with it and don't realize it might kill you in a real-life setting

well there is melee netplay. Not really sure if those players migrated there from the online in other smash games or vice versa. So habits that were carried over are a possibility.

The clips where people run off the stage and make their deaths look as deliberate as possible, or the ones where almost everyone ignores the victory screen that's clearly telling everyone who won.

The first clip is so funny, it reminds me of just you and your homies playing having a good time messing around in a game. Ik it's a tournament, and these guys probably don't know each other, but the reactions are just so hilarious, it gives me those friendship vibes.
So far I only had two people celebrate prematurely against me, I’m a little Mac so when they saw me go off the stage they thought I couldn’t make it back and taunted but while they were mid taunt I used my KO punch.
The only two times this has happened to me I always had my KO punch, it was so funny and I always got mad because I was always at max saved replays.

A. The person eliminated animation didn’t finish so they jump off stage/didn’t recover when doing an attack.

B. The opponent having that one stock left but they already popped off by jumping off the stage.
Best ones are where they re-examine on how they lost.

An accurate representation of why I don't EVER assume I've won the match until GAME plays. Crazy, crazy stuff can happen in a star K.O.
The lesson that taught it to me is one time when I lost to my friend via a star K.O., my body flying in the background. My friend did Samus's fAir in celebration... but the game spawned an explosive box on him at that exact moment. He died before I did. Funniest match I've ever "won". He's still mad about it a decade later.

This exact same thing happened to me when I was playing with a friend. He was playing Diddy and I was Ike. I had u-aired him and tried to up special to get back up but I missed the ledge and he stayed alive because of the kill animation.

This is the one thing I have a little problem with smash on. The left, right, and bottom edge are instant deaths. I get the aesthetic of the top edge death, but it should also immediately count as a death when they hit the threshold that starts that death animation, since there is literally nothing you can do to save yourself.
Yeah star K.Os are kinda dogshit, especially for characters like jigglypuff where they either save or screw puff because of rest
In 64 and Melee (and maybe Brawl) its guaranteed that a KO off the top will always give a star KO, but yeah it can fuck with stuff
