  • 6:30PM End-to-End Opening Party to celebrate the reopening of the entire 601-foot length of the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world. This is the 3rd video of the restored Great Aeolian Skinner Organ, Op. 150B, featuring the world renowned State Trumpet stop. The Cathedral's Director of Cathedral Music and Organist Bruce Neswick performs a short organ demonstration for the invited guests. I also took a few pictures of the organ and of the beautifully lit nave.
    Enjoy!

This is a beautiful place. I only wish the Cathedral would be finished. It's nice that it's all open and the organ has been fixed, but it's ashame to see it not yet completed. Bruce's playing, however, makes up for it. God stops and listens when Bruce plays! We love and miss you here in Atlanta at the Cathedral of St. Philip.

Fabulous. I remember the first time I heard 150B in 1963. The biggest reed in my hometown was either an oboe or vox humana--that State Trumpet was astounding to my then 9year old ears. It would be at 55 years as well. It is so good to have 150B back.

Thank you so much for these postings which are excellent. I couldn't make it up to NYC for the re-dedication services. I grew up near the Cathedral and have played this instrument many, many times with the kind permission of Pizzarro, Halley, & Papadakos. My brother sang in the choir & went to the cathedral school under Dr. Wyton. I've recorded both video (I'll post it here one day) audio, played a graduation, and an evensong improvisation in 1993. The organ hasn't sounded better! Thanks!!!

The new position of the console also makes it possible to see the celebrant without the use of that bank of huge mirrors over the North Choir.

how many readers here have heard the re-installed
St. John the Divine organ? I believe that two organ
recital series are taking place; one on Tuesday
evenings and the other on Sundays.

Please forgive me all, if I'm not mistaken, it's Opus 150A. When E.M. Skinner completed it, it was his 150th Opus. After the enlargement/rebuild by G. Donald Harrison, he designated it 150A. I could be wrong though.......
