Making A Lot Of Mistakes... And A Linen Basket!
Vložit
- čas přidán 10. 08. 2024
- A tapered linen basket with compound angles is this week's project, and it really tested me! Many mistakes were made, partly through being out of practice as it's the first woodworking project in a while and partly through being distracted by getting a new tablesaw and fiddling about with that! But it turned out nice in the end!

The author does like to czcams.com/users/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
Very cool! It’s good to see you doing a woodworking video once in a while, as well as the other videos, which I also appreciate. I don’t know if you are aware of how good you are at talking through what you are doing and making your audience feel as if they could do it themselves if they had the tools, at any rate, I also appreciated the peek at the software for designing things. Kudos! Looking forward to you next projects!
Show me a man who's never made a mistake, and I'll show you a man who's never made anything! Great project well executed, looked fab, thanks for posting
I always feel like I've been in your workshop with you when you share these videos. The ideas, the mistakes, the corrections, the whole new mistakes and the final result. Apart from the quality of the final result it feels a lot like my own experience! Thanks for sharing this one.
There are no mistakes, just happy little accidents to which we need to find a solution and you did! That's what counts!
Wow. I really like that, it’s very pretty.
No mistakes, just design changes ! Your human after all ..lol so long as the Mrs. likes it. I thought it was good. thks
That’s really nice, good job 👍👍
Mickie inspection 👀
Great job 👏🏼
Beautiful work Keith and an outstanding finish chap. Great video 👍🏽
Ooo I do like the red tracks for the track saw. Very nice.
Brilliant job as always regardless of the mistakes it always turns out amazing in the end
Nice that mate. Extravagant for a linen basket - which I'm all for😁 Like when you did the bed, I enjoy watching you test yourself with tricky builds. Getting long bevels to seat right for an octagon can be tricky. Especially when tapered. Great stuff.👍
We all have those projects that just seem to be one mistake after another. I've been working on a new top case for a vintage stereo receiver and I've made them all. Holes in the wrong spot, gluing in the cold, forgot to change out the long brad nails for short ones and nailed the project to the bench, gaps in glue lines, not using sacrificial pieces routing and cutting causing the wood (also Sapele) to split out. I'm finally getting the finish on. It's how it comes out in the end that matters, after all. Great work, as always.
Beautiful piece Keith. TBH the angles were making my head hurt just following along with you so massive respect in persisting and getting a great result!
Mickie 😂❤. It fits i sit ! Nice piece
Nice! Like the contrast between the lid and basket. You know, Kieth, you really do need to get some heat and air conditioning in the shop. I get cold just watching you. 😊
Top Job Keith!
Came out amazing! Now I want one too!
Thank you for Sketchup tips. Nice knob
Great job on the linen basket Keith! i really like how it looks :) Thanks for always sharing with us!💖👍😎JP
really beautiful project.
Hey Keith...
I suggest you get some solid foam insulation panels to use as a support base for the track saw. This way you will have full support for the work piece, and a stable work surface for the saw. I stopped using sticks a long time ago when I forgot where the sticks were and the work piece folded in on itself and jammed the saw. The kick back was frightening.
Nice job on the basket, too. Thanks for sharing.
Nice on Keith 🫡
Beautiful! Great video
Great work Keith. Looks good and great explanation.
Great stuff. It's impressive to see you get results like that with a track saw. Also the turned knob looked really good.
Oh I really like that.
That’s a nice individual piece and as ever it’s great to see someone making something. Great work.
Yes, I couldn't agree more!! So many are chasing the YT algorithms & doing these "10 tips", "I review this tool", "buy this not that" videos.... the good old days of people making things & providing instructions and quality content seems to have been left behind due to money rather than their subscribers.
really nice project
Great job Keith, and in a good way...great to see all your mistakes and recovery. 👍👍
That's a very nice expensive linen basket Keith. Great to also see you using the ratchet clamps. Great tool. Tony
Thats brilliant and very well made. A few man hours in that.
Great build! Thanks
The high contrast lid was a good choice in my opinion, thanks for sharing (note to self, learn sketchup!) All the best
This is a great example that errors don’t necessarily stop a project completely, you did a great job overall!
As an audio engineer I totally appreciate the sounds that the furniture I build make, they sound like actual furniture. I mean of course it does, but it’s an extra layer of satisfaction!
😃 Nice job Keith. Looks great. Now you have someware to put all of the fashion items you and Matt talk about in your podcast 😆😆👍
Nice piece that Keith! Been looking forward to seeing what it looked like after you mentioned it to Badger.
Always happy to see that I am not the only one who makes mistakes!
Great piece of work! I felt a number of the mistakes in the video, reliving my building a number of tapered octagon planters last year. Very frustrating shape to layout, cut, glue but rewarding in the end.
Nice work!
Despite the hiccups it came out looking great Keith, so all good !
It would have added more stress and also chances of errors but I'd have been tempted to use dominoes or another physical connector on the long edges for strength, but I'm sure it's strong enough as it is for it's intended purpose !
Very nice! I'm glad it passed Mickie's inspection. Your comment about liking the sound of the lid closing on the base made me smile. Curious how the pitch will change as you add things. 🎶
🙂 Thanks June!
Well done kieth.
Some tricky geometry there. Very hard to visualise some geometry at the initial stages of a project. Easy to see mistakes watching a video after they happen, but no so easy in your head when starting
Looks great Keith. Nice to see this made from wood rather than the usual plastic which people would buy
Given the thumbnail I a disappointed that you did not sans using the track saw…
Nice job👍👍👍
Dont worry yourself too much , that is some amazing wood and a lovely item in the end.
That chest of draws repair is still one of my favourites.
Sapelli i find very beautiful wood 😁 good work 😁
Again Keith, your videos and furniture is better and better as time goes by. It’s neat to see all the nice furniture you’ve built. Nice collection.
Excellent job Keith glad Mickie approves.
Another great video, getting me excited to start woodworking myself this weekend!
Thank you for all the great content you provide, as well as tips and tricks, learning moments and even the mistakes.
good video ! well done
Fantastic work, Keith! Amazing looking basket! Really well done! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Nice 👌
👍👍👍Thanks
Lovely old job
11:51 oh yeh so you did !! 😂
Haha you found it!!
Loved the mixture of several techniques in this. End result with the contrast looks great and really suited the rest of your room too. Can't recommend making CAD plans enough especially when doing work with odd angles or repeating patterns. Great job Keith!
I love this basket, Keith. I wasn't sure that I would like the natural finish on the top, but I do.
The contrasting handle is an excellent touch. Thanks for the video.
I call that 'brave'! That is quite a complex build and it turned out really well. Nice work :)
Been thinking how to taper some 2x3 to make table legs. But I only have a circular saw. Actually figured out how I might be able to do it from this video1 Use an adhoc track clamped down on top of the piece with some support piece to hold track level. Might just work.
Thank you for this. A hugely satisfying project to watch, let alone make. Great job, looks excellent. Mistakes were interesting too.
Not just me that uses old jars of Doritos dip to mix my finishes then! Turned out really nice by the way, and I like the way you resolved that issue with the angles, especially scribing from your workbench as a reference. Nice job.
how about a video where you pit the Makita and Milwaukee saws against each other. I will appreciate that as my choice is between the 2😊
That is beautiful if I live in England near by I would of got you to make me a few things you are so talented.Damn Australia is to far 😩
I think it came out great! I love the stuff you make!
Nice one Keith, lovely finish to this piece. Your videos inspired me to have a go at making something and built a basic bird table with some scraps of wood. Thanks for sharing your projects. Look forward to seeing more. Russ from down the road in Suffolk.

Perfect for the matching bedroom furniture. I felt you when you made your little mistakes, mate. I've had a week of adding extra time and work by doing dumb sh@t....🤣
Haha I can relate to that so much. My biggest problem is getting carried away with other projects and not focussing on the one I'm making a video about 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Yeah man I'm definitely not getting notifications from your uploads anymore and I've quadruple checked the settings. Guess I'll have to search for you once a week or so to see if you've got any new videos up. Nice build as always
Did you tick the notification bell? Do you check your subscriptions feed? Interesting to hear this feedback. Thanks
@@RagnBoneBrownyeah I found out it was actually my post phone lol
You like the lid, the handle and the noise it makes when you put the lid back on it but you didn't mention the magical powers it has..........you put dirty laundry inside it and it magically appears clean dry and put away in the wardrobe 🤣🤣
Dirty undercrackers have never had such a nice home! 🙂
It looks a little bit like the cathouse you made for Dylan years ago! Love it. 😻
Thank you Matt!
Been tinkering with Sketchup myself, but when I draw two components and let them overlap they always seem to interact with eachother, so making changes to one of them gets really difficult... Maybe I need to watch a few more tutorials on CZcams 😄.
Nice build Keith!
Make each item a component
@@donjohnson24 yes, tried that, but some how when I put them onto eachother they seem to merge into one.
Hey Keith
Think there’s a scammer on here
Love it! Just beautiful. I was especially intrigued while you made the handle. It would be interesting to watch you make a wooden chess set using that 'laith'?
Very beautiful. I am planning to make some laundry hampers for my house, nut I was think to make them with small slat openings along the side to allow air flow. Do you notice if your dirty clothes get a mildew smell after being in the totally enclosed linen basket for a few days? Just trying to get some feedback about whether air openings would be necessary in my builds.
Larger hamper = fewer laundry days (it's one of those unexplainable mathematical anomalies).
Beautiful basket. Well done :). Just something I noticed at 12:34. Maybe it's just the angle of the footage, but it looks kinda scary with the long sleeve so close to the lathe chuck?
When doing a project and especially with angles yes you should have made some templates but like all of us we think we are doing right 😅 but having said that it does look dam nice well done 👍 can I please ask how long have you had the Milwaukee Railsaw what? do you think of it and I see you have the Milwaukee m18 belt sander it would be nice for you to do a little video on them both 👍as l am a big fan of Milwaukee and have a few of these tools thanks and see you soon 😊
Just off to get my maths degree to finish watching the video 😂
Very nice!
I found myself wondering how much the 5 degree angle on the top mattered, given it got rounded over anyway ... though I haven't ever used a router - a parallel-to-floor surface is likely easier to work with?
I have bought lots of Milwaukee tools Kits ect, but the Track saw is over priced in Ireland 1400 to 1500 euro tracks saw batteries ect.........Crazy.......Festool same price
This somewhat reminded me of barrel makers. Really cool project, loved rhe wood turning. Can we say at this point sapele is your favorite wood?
Love it Keith and with Mickie in it too!
Thank you!
Who doesn’t love sepele?
if it didn't have the lid handle that would be a perfect place for a cat to sleep
Caption “ how to escape from capt blunder errors “ …..I got the hand brush thrown at me in woodwork at school, for picking out shavings from the block plane using a steel ruler Greenhill Comp’ Tenby 1961…..so I know nothing …
Your problem was design or intent. cutting a 20mm ring would have allowed you to try the cuts and sequencing
I feel really dumb for not understanding what you're doing at all. Angles confuse me so quickly
I'm certainly NOT any smarter than the next guy, but I cringed when you simply marked over the inside with outside. I've done similar enough times to know to check your work!
Hey there I think you may have been hacked. I was sent a message to claim a gift.if I have got rung then I apologise
it's a common scam on CZcams, please ignore - they have been reported
