In todays video Western Welding Academy President "TYLER SASSE" Shows you how to calculate a pup length in the newest edition of the PIPE FITTER SERIES.
This is a great tool to learn for BEGINNER PIPE FITTERS AND BEGINNER WELDERS that like stick welding and TIG welding, even MIG welding!

I really enjoyed this video you show how math is used in the trades,You teach where is it understandable. I am Ag teacher I teach mainly welding classes this will help me show to my students that math is important for them to know. I would like to see more videos like this with math skills involved. No only does it help my students it sharpens my knowledge of things I was never was taught how to do. Thank you for making these kind of videos.
Glad it was helpful! Stay tuned for more!
Excellent pipefitting lessons very basic I am a pipefitting helper and welder helper this is a money source for me and free !!!!! Thank you SR
Rock on!
Showing a rolling offset would be cool🤙🏾
You forgot the subscribe the weld gap an 1/8th from each side.
Just got my schedule for my first class as an apprentice.
WELD I.
Been binge watching you guys!
Great content!
Awesome! Thank you!
What about subtracting the welding pulling? The welding gap and stuff …
very interesting, I used to work in heavy fabrication as a welder, prepairing cylinders for sub-arc. Never worked off blue-prints. We had our own welding bays and had a number of cylinders to work on from single vee, double vee upto 6" thick. all x-ray work.👍
This is extremely useful if anything please go deeper! Thanks man I appreciate you guys!
You got it!
Also in most cases also take away your root gaps in New Zealand its about 3mm per side so 2901.950mm - 3mm-3mm = actual pup length 2896(rounded) if not more gap been 6" pipe depending on the fitter/welder as gap will srink when tacking and will still get good root peneration
👌
798 hand here thanks for the videos. Hopefully we can meet on the row one day.
Do more videos please, they’re are very helpful - thank you
More to come!
Minus the 3 welds and gasket
Next thing I want to see is how to understand what rode to use for diffrent types of metal. Love the vids!
That’s on the package for that project ! Your Qc should tell you what procedure is getting done, and pmi prior to weld would tell u also
Thanks so much
How about useing a string line some levels an fittings on some offsets or rolling offsets
Minus 7/16s of an inch. 3 welds,minus a gasket.
Don't forget the weld gaps
Do your WWA students get a iso paper book to practice fit ups, drawings and the math involved before hitting the field?
we have classrooms first before hands on training
@@WesternWeldingAcademy I was under the impression based on previous videos that the school was 8 hours of welding a day, but some class time can be good based on material being taught and presentation to keep students engaged but please do explain your comment. Classrooms first before hands on training?
Thanks for this nice lesson I really appreciate, next time you should show us a real simple blueprint and break it down for us, that will be nice content.
Will do!
Awesome videos as always! You should show how to take field measurements with a laser confirm wether the iso is correct or not when you’re pipefitting. Thanks!!
anytime!
Im going to forward this to my guys who cant seem to cut pipe correctly. Ask for an 8' length of 16" water main and get 6.5' instead. Even with hymax couplings being used
Can you guys please do an in-depth video of an open root in the 4g position I'm in high school and I just can't seem to get it right
Good idea!
Awesome lesson,. I didn’t know the flanges go off of weight.. how about a lesson using the iso paper, drawing out a plan or reading prints already drawn out.
Great suggestion!
Better apps,..Pipe trades pro calculator...and pipe fitter calculator. This does all offsets,. Even will add your root gap in. These are the absolute best apps. Weldbend also has a good app and you can download their data into your phone with all fitting, lets, and flange take offs.
Thanks for sharing
Anything you can get on iPhone you can get on android but not everything on android can you get on iPhone without jailbreaking.
You lost me at 10’-6 3/4”. I understand the basic idea, just can get the imperial system.
We'll keep that in mind.
Calculations? I thought yall went by the piping prints.
Rolling offset
9 , 1/2 “ isn’t for a long radius 90 ? I thought if it was a standard it was the same size as the pipe ,
Long radius is always 1.5 times the pipe size so a 4 inch 90 is 6 inches ...... Just like overtime ..... Short radius is what you are talking about .... Hope this helps
start using metric...10ft 6 3/4 like WTF murica f'''k yeaa
😎
Wrong you didn't take off the Gap for welding if you had a few Tee's in there plus a couple of flanges you would be in trouble
Get rid of your phone first off and use the brain God gave you .
