There is a significant distinction between a protest and a riot. While you have the right to protest as long as it is within the legal framework established by the Constitution, this does not override the rights of others who may choose not to participate in such activities. The Nigerian constitution guarantees the right to protest, but it does not strip away the rights of others to move freely or conduct their daily business.
When protests escalate to the point where they impede others' freedom of movement or result in the destruction of national infrastructure, it becomes a violation of those individuals' human rights. The Nigerian police have a crucial role in protecting the rights of those who opt not to partake in the protests, ensuring that they can continue their lives without undue interference.
The Nigerian President has extended an invitation for dialogue, aiming to address the concerns of the protesters and discuss the state of the economy. If these protests are genuinely in the interest of Nigeria, it begs the question: why are the protesters not engaging in this opportunity for constructive dialogue? The term "bad governance" used by some protesters is vague and potentially misleading. It is important to clarify what specific aspects of governance are considered problematic. The initial step should be to engage in discussions about perceived policy flaws and seek improvements, rather than immediately resorting to protest.
Protests should be a last resort, adopted only when all avenues for dialogue have been exhausted. In the current situation, it appears that some individuals have spontaneously initiated protests in fewer than 10 out of the 36 states, without prior engagement or meaningful dialogue with the Nigerian youth and other stakeholders.
Additionally, Nigeria's criticism of Russia should be viewed within the context of broader geopolitical and economic considerations. Some Nigerian Senators have accused Russia of exporting contaminated diesel to Nigeria and are working to halt such imports. If Nigeria were to enhance its own diesel and PMS production capabilities, it could impact Russia's market presence in Africa, potentially affecting its diplomatic relations and influence. Therefore, the narrative of Russian involvement or "conspiracy theories" might not be entirely unfounded.

Make primary education free and compulsory. Ghana, a country with less resources have free education up to high school. But the greed amongst the Nigeria politicians and their supporters will rather share such resources amongst themselves to the detriment of the rest of the majority.
