Also, had a chance to finger the turbo while replacing down pipe, and still no play in the bearings at all. I think VW made a hell of an engine, As long as you do the maintenance properly, and fork out a little extra cash for synthetic oil and the timing belt/water pump change every hundred thousand miles

2001 audit a6 2.8l quattro, 205,000 miles, frantz bypass oil filter mounted in front of radiator, new timing belt, new control arms, alternator, transmission service, runs perfectly, torquey engine eats up hills at 1200 to 2000 rpm in 5th (tiptronic), everyone still comments on how cool it looks, and it looks old lol! needs: drivers window regulator, stereo receiving no power?, some little pieces inside to be replaced, torn seats. Big rains or snows? you are glad you own an audi quattro!

So, a single annual oil change? Based on this video, you're at just over 450,000 miles and it's a '99, so that's a bit over 26,500 miles a year. Doing a 26,000 mile oil change must not be fun. I daily an '00 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro and I do about 3500 miles a year for the past few years (used to be higher). She's at about 113,000 right now, and I do two changes every year - one in the spring and one in the fall. Originally rated for 5W-40 or 5W-30, but due to climate and needs, I've been running 0W-30 full synthetic oil from Ravenol. Doesn't burn or use oil, or if it does it's a completely negligible amount as it's never really below the full line on the dipstick.
Even though I'm on the cautious side, I won't be running my little A6 more than 5000 per change. She's getting up there in age, and every little bit I can do to make sure she's on the road for a long, long time counts. Glad that you're still keeping her running with all these miles and after all this time, but I strongly recommend addressing the small things and giving it a bit of aesthetic TLC - she can still look good and run like new for a while to come, I imagine.

brilliant, none of this rubbish about religiously servicing your car, just keep driving it until something needs replacing, and no need to change the oil for a couple of years, I've always wondered why I kept sending my wife's SMax to the garage for a service every 13000 miles, clearly this was unnecessary and its only covered 186000 miles so it should be OK for a million miles or so, many thanks, very entertaining video!

Wow, that must be the highest mileage Audi I have ever seen. These cars are notorious for being shop queens.
