    • @PDGX
      @PDGX Před 3 lety +13

      I don’t think so, or at least I’ve never heard of that “tradition”. While the catcher is clearly an integral part to no-hitter & perfect games, I think the pressure and performance is infinitely more on the pitcher; thus, pitcher deserves to hold onto that piece of memorabilia. (Sure, the pitcher should get the catcher a expensive bottle of wine/booze, and/or take him out to dinner.)

      FOR SURE. That "runner starts the inning on 2nd base" thing is so artificial & so anti-baseball, it ain't even funny. You're gonna end up w/ the fastest available runner on every team getting numbers in their runs scored column that DO NOT reflect their ability to get on base. And relievers are gonna end up w/ bloated E.R.A.'s who may have gotten out of an inning with a base hit or double & no runs surrendered. That's gonna change guys whole careers, their livelihoods, the money they make, everything. Especially now that stats & SABRmetrics count for so much more than they did 20 or 30 years ago. I'm watching more National League games now, to get my purity when I can. At least the pitchers still have to bat over on The Senior Circuit. And I'm a life-long A.L. fan, too. I know it's a long season, but CHRIST- what the hell happened to "let's play two"? I liked it better when everyone ate a fistful of greenies when they had a day game after a night game. I WANT to see a position player pitching in the bottom of the 15th @ 1 AM. They are sucking all the righteous weirdness out of my beloved sport.

      Teammates will keep hush hush about it. Baseball players are very superstitious and you don’t wanna be that guy. I think Ethan Katz (pitching coach) came up too him at one point and probably told him to keep it up and stay focused. That’s the only person I saw talk to him. But when a pitcher goes to the dugout around the 6th inning and on with this situation most players will give him space while he paces around trying to stay in the vibe and keep his arm feeling good. Unless he comes up and talks to one of them personally.
