Thanks for tuning in this year. Hope you have a happy and safe new year, guys! How do you feel about the importance of Prime 4’s sales?
I really hope they aren’t going to go open world. I’m pretty burnt out on the concept. Metroid thrives on tightly crafted, linear design. I’m not too worried about it, I’m sure it’ll be awesome. I just wish they’d show us something or just give us an update considering how long it’s been.
They're not, in a conference they confirmed they will never want to go that route since it doesn't fit with what the Metroid Franchise represents..
@@groudonor12 Oh nice I hadn’t heard, that’s a relief.
Well tightly crafted yes, but I wouldn’t say linear. More like a bunch of interconnected mazes with constant winding and intersecting paths.
MP4 already confirmed to be a linear game but with more open spaces
Metroid can be the story game that Zelda can't anymore.
I prefer Nintendo's franchise to be different with each other.
And tbh Metroid lore was always better than Zelda's (Miyamoto never intented making Zelda a lore franchise).
What I’m primarily concerned is how Nintendo will approach Prime 4. I don’t think it’s going to do well if it’s launched near a new 3D Mario. Nintendo needs to give it its own individual spotlight and build hype.
Hopefully Prime 4 on launch and new Mario 3d on november.
@@birdbig6852 if Nintendo separates the launches like that, it’d be 🔥
It will be a cross gen launch title like BOTW was,
We have had a Mario and Zelda game launch the same day before....so who knows.
Words cannot describe how excited I am for prime 4 its been my most anticipated game of all time since they revealed it 6 years ago.
I think a large part of people who get prime 4 were those who us metroid fanatics were able to get hooked on playing the other prime games during that roughly 17 years since prime 3. Hopefully Nintendo markets the heck out of prime 4, and I have no doubt it will be a masterpiece.
They should remaster 2 and 3 and shadow drop them during the campaign for 4.
Strong marketing will be key. Luckily Nintendo is one of the best companies around when it comes to marketing.
The question remains: when will it launch? If the switch 2 launch in 2024 however a 3d Mario will likely be a launch title
It’s been 17 years since Prime 3, not 13 years. Retro Studios is incompetent and hasn’t made a game since the Wii U. An etire generation grew up without a Retro Studios game at this point.
@@KlaasKerkhof stop, think before you type, they are not in incompetent and this generation got to experience the first 3 games, now with mods they look even better, and retro made a gorgeous remaster of metroid prime 1. Retro studios is still under the jurisdiction of Nintendo and hasn't made a game, because their job as a minor company owned by nintendo is not to pump out tons of games.
Everyone in the comments better buy Metroid prime 4 or I'm going to be mad
People can do what they want.
The thing is. Prime 4 really have to be impressive for the mainstream to jump into the franchise. We all know the gameplay and exploration is amazing but all non-fans only sees it as another Sci-fi shooter.
Things going mainstream usually ends poorly....(Looking at Zelda....Aonuma ruining it with BOTW and TOTK)
I kinda think that since Metroid is more popular in the west and given how Nintendon't has handled Metroid Prime 4, after this they need to take their hands off of the IP completely and let Retro Studios take the reigns completely and handle it from bottom to top (development, story, design, marketing, etc.) If this doesn't sell well, Nintendo will only have themselves to blame for botching this with a too early announcement.
Are you okay? Also "fans" should probably take most of the responsibility for the early reveal. After the sh**show that was the reaction to MPFF Nintendo likely anticipated a negative reaction to a 3DS game, so they revealed that a game is being developed for the Switch, too.
Nintendo is already hands off with Primes. Retro is always given complete control. They have proven themselves since the beginning. They are essentially a Nintendo Dev in quality. Miyamoto has given them full confidence and praise. Nintendo just is there to help when needed, they aren't working on Primes, only Retro did.
Short answer no. Long answer: I would hope with the titles being listed and shown differently between Prime and normal Metroid that people would be smart enough to know there’s a big difference between the two series’. But I may be giving people too much credit.
Here’s to 2024 and more great content from this channel (and a new name!!) and fingers crossed for a switch 2 reveal and MP4 blowout
I think this game is on hold for new hardware
I agree.
Metroid Prime 1 was incredible at that time. Was one of the Gamecube games that easily could be mistaken for running on an Xbox.
I enjoyed 2 & 3 also, but that first one was where it's at. Hopefully MP4 takes the best aspects of the games & brings it into the future.
"Brings it into the future"
Exactly. Metroid fans will hate me for saying this, but the series needs to be modernized. Prime 1 is still a great game, but it has very little appeal for younger people who are used to modern games. It needs to be updated the way Botw updated the Zelda series.
These big budget 1st party games typically do well for Nintendo, I do have confidence in them, like you said, the way they identified that it wasn't going the way it should and scrapped and rebooted it. A question I have is now that Dread is the best selling Metroid do you think that Nintendo gets Mercury Steam to remake the other previous entries? Samus Returns was poor timing but you saw its influence in Dread. That one could be upscaled to the Switch's successor. But there is still the original, Super and Fusion, the most recent is 2 decades old. I think a 4 pack bundle might be a lot to expect, although they could argue it's an amazing value (I think 2 seperate 2 packs would be more likely, but completely remade). They could do it in a way where it's setting up post Dread and Samus is recounting previous adventures for the player to play through (which I think would be an interesting take on a remake)
I've had the prediction that Metroid Prime 4 will be a launch title for the next gen Switch! Either that or it'll be announced next year and released in 2025!
Yeah a proper remake of Super Metroid would be interesting
If Metroid Prime 4 were to bomb, it wouldn't KILL the franchise but it would deal a devastating (potentially lethal) blow to 3d Metroid, and also hurt 2d Metroid QUITE a bit.
When has Retro ever released a poor game? Never.
@@ItApproaches the fact that they haven't released a brand new title since 2014 (implying that something got canceled) says otherwise.
@@calvinbrinenestoris2357Can you read? My statement said "Retro has never RELEASED a poor game." My goodness, humans are just setting the bar lower and lower for comprehension.
@@ItApproaches Well that's just mean. I'm sorry for misreading your reply, but... geez. Uncalled for.
I will be somewhat mixed if Prime 4 sells the best. On one hand, yes, I want the franchise to continue. But given I will always prefer the 2D (I do include Confrontation and AM2R in this) and third person 3D (currently Other M which I love the gameplay) style for its faster pace nature, I don't want this to stop. This somewhat happened with Prime 2, Hunters, and Prime 3 for a few years. I do like Dark Samus a lot and do enjoy the Logbook challenge, but still don't want first person 3D to be the only Metroid.
I think coming from this experience is that maybe Nintendo should not have revealed this game out so early in the switch life until everything was halfway done or something. Teasers like that are not worth this long wait no matter how much time they needed to get it developed right. They should have been halfway done and then announce it out to the public. At the very least that should be considered, right ?
They likely announced it then, because they anticipated a negative reaction to the 3DS game.
Prime 2 and 3 were in the 1-2 million range. Before dread, the highest sellers were NES and Prime 1. It doesn't depend on the sales. It depends on Sakamoto and Tanabe caring. 4-5 million is possible if its cross gen.
Super Metroid, the best Snes game, barely passed 1m.
That's so sad.
Super Metroid, the best Snes game, barely passed 1m.
That's so sad.
2024 is our year Rob!😤
Honestly Metroid prime 4 will sell well whatever happens simply because of how long we've been waiting for it and fans are excited about it
I still want Metroid prime 2 and 3 for switch remastered
At this point it’s been so long, they really have to make it the best Prime experience ever to be successful. If it fails, the 2d style of game play will probably continue. Dead’s sales numbers show that fans are still interested in the 2d aspect. I’ve personally never been able to get into FPS style games, Primes included. Give me more 2d esque style games, I’ll buy em up!
Definitely does for at least the Prime/3D games.
As for 2D I believe Dread secured the Mainline Series for a long time
Great video 😊
I hope Mercury Steam is working on a new 2D Metroid as well and I will also take a Samus Returns HD on base Switch in 2024 as well!
I think Nintendo should release Metroid prime 4 on switch and PC. I think having it on PC will really help the sales issue.
They should, but Nintendo never would.
Would be the smart thing to do. All the game are made on pc anyways. Nintendo should’ve branched out back when the GameCube failed.

@@therealjaystone2344piracy exists on all platforms. It's not exclusively a PC issue.
Metroid 6 will not come in a hurry,Samus returns should have come to the switch so its likely that will be ported(next 2d game it never got to shine most people play it on pc using citra)maybe dread will get add on(extra story content) or super metroid remake(which is kinda unlikely since its good as it is)also there's prime 2&3 that should come to switch.Just my humble opinion since playing metroid since nes days
I believe that Metroid Prime 4 will indeed be released for successor to Nintendo Switch, alongside new Mario 3D and maybe new Mario Kart, if the rumors are accurate. Since people would want to have really good games to go with shiny new system, this will help Metroid Prime 4 have sale boost, so reaching 5 millions within a year isn't out of realm of possibilities.
If it didn't sells well at all? Oooooh boy it will indeed damage the series potential for recouping costs via sales and profits. This would means that the next 2D Metroid would have to sell even better than Dread, which I'm not sure would happens. If Nintendo wasn't satisfied after two games, then the series would likely be put in hiatus once again and I really hope that wouldn't happens.
So yeah this year would be another make or break for Metroid franchise (if it comes out this year even).
I gotta admit, i was quite surprised/ disappointed when they released Prime Remastered sales figures. I genuinely thought it would be the best selling game in the franchise, due to the quality, the hype, and the price tag.
I think we have to acknowledge that the Metroid series (particularly the 3d games) need to be updated, the way Botw updated the Zelda series.
Consider there was no marketing behind, it was shadow dropped. But I agree with your point nonetheless
❤ MP4 2024 🎉
I respectfully disagree with silence being okay. It's been 5 years, they ought to consider not only the passionate fans but their shareholders-- everyone who would benefit by receiving an update of some kind. I personally felt compelled to buy the Nintendo Switch because I saw that Metroid Prime 4 announcement. I was introduced to Metroid through Zero Mission those ads helped me understand that person in the Smash Bros games was a chick and I was excited that I could relate to her as a lady myself, then I bought more and games and truly know this series.
It stings right now how they've treated this situation, I truly thought they'd announce something at this year's Game Awards, you said it yourself this IP is more popular in the west over Japan so it just makes sense to me.
If in the next Nintendo Direct they're still quiet about Metroid Prime 4, I'm going to be really crushed.
I appreciated your video though and only wish I was more of laxed mindset but I just don't share that same vibe right now.
Expect no MP4 news on the February direct for I think the WW/TP HD will be their last announcement for February
Why would their shareholders even care that much?
@@NuiYabuko In my opinion it would help. Knowing what that company does, the games they plan to make as well of the status of games like are they still in development or canceled is very helpful. If folks are investing money into something they want to be well informed, it's key to have a good report with the community.
@@ourfamilyaccount You think shareholders are concerned about Metroid? lol Just say you want to see the game instead of dragging their shareholders into that. MP4 is TBA on slides, that seems to be enough information.
At the end you wrote community. So it wasn't actually about the shareholders, got it.
@@NuiYabuko I do think some shareholder are concerned about Metroid yes. Not the majority but they still exist.
My main beef is with Nintendo being quiet for as long as they have been. I don't think that's acceptable. A company that massive needs to be more thoughtful of how the public views them and more willing to provide updates. Imagine if in 2022 Nintendo released a Twitter message that said, "Were still working hard on Metroid Prime 4 expect it out next year" or "Were sad to announce Metroid Prime 4 is cancelled" ; that would be appreciated over just silence.
I did being shareholders into this topic because they aren't just eliminated from the equation they're just as valuable as the fans and plenty of them (the shareholders) are adults who grew up gaming in their youth and fund Nintendo.
I might not share the same thoughts as you and that's alright. Hope you have a good start to 2024.
If retro studios acheive a score over 95 with Prime 4, the game will have a high chance to get goty title since it's a female protagonist.
And then hopefully it will get the same surprise sells as BotW.
I think something to note is that 2d metroid and 3d metroid are totally different things. If metroid prime 4 does badly but metroid 6 does well, nintendo might just decide to continue metroid as a 2d only series. I think you're operating under the assumption that a 2d metroid success would undo prime 4's failure and nintendo would go again for prime 5 when they might just decide it is too much of a waste of money.
I think Nintendo will release a new 2D Metroid before Prime 4.
This will be on the new console
The title of this video has already been proven with the comeback the series made after titles like Other M, and Federation Force.
For Federation Force that’s true. But for Other M not so much. The Metroid landscape it released into in 2010 was very different. Metroid was thriving as the 2000s had like 9 new titles released. It also sold just over 1 million units which means it didn’t flop. Though it should’ve sold more.
I just want prime 4 to come out. And be good. That’s not a tall order
There’s already 7 year old Switch gamers out there that were born after the Metroid Prime 4 announcement. And there are already 17 year olds who were born after the release of Prime 3.
I think you correctly identify that Dread's success puts Metroid as a franchise in a good position. The more interesting question, I think, is what does that particular game's success mean for the future of Metroid?
As much as I enjoyed Dread, I think the best games in the franchise are Super Metroid and Metroid Prime. 2D and 3D, but they both did a fantastic job of nailing the tone, style, and even pacing that I personally want out of a Metroid game. My worry is that the success of Dread will cause Nintendo to focus too heavily on the action side of things and de-emphasize the adventure/exploration aspects.
As long as they never remake/remaster Super Metroid on the SNES I’m down for a new game or other remasters. Super Metroid is perfect and does not need anything to make it better. Hoping for a Metroid Prime 4 this year tho!
I like Metroid games but have always felt it doesn't get as much love from Nintendo. Even visited the Nintendo store in Tokyo this year and it was like three small shelves of Metroid merch 😞😞😞
Why would it, when the sales aren't there? Any other company would've likely shelved the franchise a long time ago. But of course Metroid fans have to play victims or something.
9:43 New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe.
Also Paper Mario Sticker Star.
Doesn't apply to any of them.
@@NuiYabuko Sticker Star sold 2m copies, and everyone hates it.
@@calvinbrinenestoris2357 Everyone doesn't hate it. I for one don't. But nice try.
@@NuiYabuko well, there's no game that EVERYONE hates except for maybe bad indie games made by people who don't know how to make games. By the AAA Nintendo Standards, Sticker Star has a pretty big dislike:like ratio.
I actually do believe if Prime 4 sell about the same or less than Dread which is absolutely possible then the Prime series is done and Nintendo will keep Metroid to just 2D games like Donkey Kong
Prime 4 could be the last Prime game also because it’s naturally designed to be the end of the story. If that happens I still other forms of 3D games could be made outside of the 2D games. Don’t discount their willingness to make a 3rd person game despite the reception to Other M. I think it will happen.
Prime 2 and 3 were in the 1-2 million range.
@@francoperalta5986 OK and?
I hope Metroid becomes Nintendo’s call of duty game, but better
I don't think Prime 4's performance has a bearing on the franchise continuing, as the mainline is handled separately. At worst, it can have an influence on the future of the Prime subseries. If it does badly, we may not see more Prime in the future. If it does exceptionally well, we may see another or even a successor subseries to take its place outside of the timeline niche Prime takes place in.
The reason its taking so long is the best minds and creative geniuses at Nintendo and around the world have been toiling away trying to figure out how to finally make Metroid Crawl in Prime 4. Thus far, no success, the Switch hardware was not up to such a task. Once completed it will be called Metroid Prime 4: Crawls too the Walls.
To be honest Metroid prime 4 is based in the sales of the prime 2 and 3 remastered. We Metroid fan need to know. Metroid Dread sales was 2.9 Millon units' sales is good for the series. It's still nothing to compared with the big hitters Mario and Zelda games.
I feel like its success hinges on what Retro is currently like; a lot has happened since 2007. Hollywood is a dumpster fire, but maybe Retro could stand out. I bet it has a better chance than GTA 6.
Glory to the motherland. 🇯🇵
lol, no. Dread did very well, better than any game in the series in fact. MP Remastered did well for a shadow drop, and the positive word of mouth and reviews did wonders for the people’s perception of the series. It’s commonly seen as the best-looking game on Switch. MP4 could sell “only” 3-4 million and it would be fine. There’s no need for the histrionics, but Metroid fans have been doing that for years.
I think if prime flops theyll take as to develop metroid 6 7 and so on, if prime 4 flops itll be the prime series that they wont want to bother with again. But come on its prime I'm sure it will sell 4m in its first fiscal year.
sticker star was one of their best selling paper mario games. That abomination was the reason we had three garbage games in a row.
We're at the end of the switch generation. One last year of releases for this system. The development has been more troubled than the likes of diablo 3 and 4 combined. Nintendo execs won't allow a flagship game Ike this to be released if it is mundane or tedious. Which an open world would present.
How would you know how troubled the development is?
tbh them showing nothing after rebooting it is kinda stupid sorry.
You like Metroid? I couldn't tell.
Don’t tell anyone. It’s a secret.
frankly...
no
not one bit
that was dreads job
and it succeeded
and then mpre drove it home
federation force deserves a second chance
People only disliked it because of the timing of its release a lot of people who played the whole game thought it was good
It deserves to find a new audience it deserves a second chance
With Metroid in the public eye again do you think they’ll remaster federation force since people didn’t give that game a fair chance due to the lack of Metroid previously
The people who did play it thought it was good
I mean if they’re gonna do all the prime games how about the most overlooked one and bring it to a new audience
How about they don’t leave it where it is
Give it the remaster treatment or just port it it would do a lot better
Are the recent Pokémon and Call of Duty games notoriously bad games that have sold very well?
No. If that was the case Nintendo would've been done with the franchise a long time ago.
The truth is I’m kind of tired of being excited for 5+ years over vapor ware with absolutely nothing to show.
I’m gonna forget about this game until Nintendo finally announces something tangible.
Most likely considering Metroud was practically a dead franchise befire Dread saved the franchise.
Bad games sell well all the time: CoD, Madden, Fifa, NBA2K
And what is bad about them, exactly?
Does Metroid depend on prime 4? No. Metroid did survived other m and federation force.
Please don't be open world.
I don't think so and I hope not. Dread was massively successful and I hope we get more 2D Metroids. Not a fan of the FPS ones T_T
Short answer: Yes, as Dread is a failure.
Dread was a big success.
@@Ruleof2Review Incorrect.
I just really hope this isn’t a switch game. Make it switch 2 only. That’s going to give it way more quality and I hope that’s why there was a massive delay on top of the initial delay.
What delay are you talking about?
Metroid just a niche game. Who cares.
