That's fair, but then the Death Korps lose that exclusivity and uniqueness once everyone buys them. They would be flavour of the month for a while, but not forever I suspect.
That maybe the cast, but a lot of the draw for Warhammer 40k is the Grimdark, and a lot of people enjoy the Death Korps for its Grimdark. Unfortunately not a lot of previous and new additions are as Grimdark as others. If the Death Korps were to be replaced after getting old, I would expect players to favour a new Regiment Type that was close to being Grimdark even if it is a different flavour of Grimdark, similar to how a Chaos Player of Khorne might want to switch to Nurgle, or the other two. The only thing, I would expect, that would stop this would be if the grimdark regiments were more expensive than the 'standard regiments', like the Jungle Fighters and Cadian Imperial Guard.
I noticed you pronounced it 'core' at 7:23 ... yeh its definitely death 'core'... such as British Army intelligence corps or artillery corps (BTW I love your stories videos; best 40k lore videos on CZcams!)
I can justify that - when I was researching it seemed to imply that Stagler led the 993rd Korp; this may have been a typo, judging by what's been said already, but I took it to mean that the "s" was pronounced in order to distinguish (I didn't pronounce the "p" at any point). Still, thanks for correcting me!
An interesting comparison might be made between the Death Corps and the Free French Army of WWII who allied high command started shepherding and only giving doable missions to as their fanatical courage meant they could keep fighting for an objective even after all chance of victory was lost.

Only Catachan commissar's might be more hardboiled after surviving certain & unexpected "incidents" . On a side note: Krieg Commissar's arent really there for morale purposes, but more for shooting near death soldiers and looting the corpses in the field ("Corpsemasters"?), due to supplyment stuff, right?
The only times i really know of Commissars in the Death Korps executing their men for dereliction are when those men have been conscripted into the Death Korps from the worlds that they're stationed on @ the time during battle. One example of this is found in the Ultramarines short story Knight of Talassar.
