    As an update, the president of the Spanish Boxing Federation stated that they were not going to revoke the license. Additionally, it should be noted that in the video, the boxer even extends his hand to the abuser when the latter was already in a fighting stance, trying to avoid conflict. To top it off, he goes around apologizing in the room to everyone who witnessed the incident. He's a very kind and respectable guy.

Some average dude is not competing with prime Mike Tyson or Canelo. Their punches can lead to serious injury and are treated differently from some average person's.
      Him swinging first is definitely not a good look and definitely hurts his case. Im still glad that he didn't get punished tho.

      The issue is, since he's a professional, he's classified as a weapon. He has to avoid conflict at all costs unless attacked first. Only reason why. Especially if the one punch killed the guy. As civilians, we 100% support him but at a professional level he was wrong. Crazy.

      only thing i didnt like about boxing is coaches always tell you that you should never use these skills to fight in the street and if you get caught you will be treated more pf a danger than a normal person so if you get in a fight even if you arent the perpetrator you can still get in trouble with your coaches and your career or police might try to charge you with something

      It's more just that professional boxers are held to a higher standard when they fight other people because of a potential for harm. This dude may have been an abuser, but he's obviously not some trained professional boxer. Antonio's hands are considered much greater force escalation then some random Joe Schmo throwing hands.
      That doesn't mean I don't support what he did, I do. Just there's greater scrutiny when a boxer punches out a civilian because they can easily kill someone.

In all other states, in public, yes fighting is technically illegal but, if both parties agree to not press charges and no property was damaged, you will not be arrested. This is for strangers, if you live with someone it becomes DV and is a whole different thing.

    As a woman who was abused, this man is a hero. Dishing out some of the perps own medicine, is just what was needed in this situation.       Professional fighters are not allowed to get into fights outside of their job unless someone’s life depends on it. There was no life in danger here everyone had moved away from the aggressor and the woman was removed. Not to mention if he hurt the guy he could be charged with harsher penalties than a normal person because his training in fighting

    This story has further developments now
    So far the abuser filed charges against the boxer stating he had a clear advantage over him and he stood no chance (maybe he shouldn't have started hitting people to begin with, regardless if a martial artist was present or not)
    Also the Spanish Boxing Federation has also said that this incident would not cause his license to be removed, stating that he was in a very complicated situation, and he acted out of defense against the abuser, which also comes from a federation official who is also a woman, showing that she's grateful he stood up for the victims

If his actions weren't waranted for the situation, if he had been attacking him for no reason, he could have been charged as if he had a weapon "arma blanca" (weapon that is not a firearm) and as such would have his boxing licence taken away

      Most likely a lot of people would either ignore it and not want to get involved. Unfortunately I also know from experience. Wasn't hit but in two incidents was stalked and in the other he wouldn't let my arm go. It's scary looking around for help only to have people either ignore you or believe your abuser.

    For those not in the know, when you start training to become a professional boxer, after a certain point your body is considered a "deadly weapon" from a legal standpoint because you've trained it and yourself to be able to hurt people, severely and immediately. Fun fact.

    As an ex professional fighter (did it till i was 31) who has been in a similar situation where a guy was aggressive and i pinned him to the ground i nearly got charged with assault with a deadly weapon
    I was arrested and at my court date they found a video a bystander took that proved my innocence (thank you random bystander you may not know it but you possibly saved my life and current career as a mechanic)
    Now heres the thing i didnt have a weapon because being a professional fighter legally means they can class you as a deadly weapon if you assault someone
    The justice system is fucked

Then, the victims know all too well just how dangerous and obsessed their abusers are. That means you have to become selective about when or how you escape. If you try to escape at the wrong time, and fail, it is like being locked alone in a room with an angry bear, so you can obviously have your life ended. And if you want to involve others in helping you, you have to endanger their safety too. But you're right that sometimes they stay out of ignorance and those cases depress me so much. It all does.

    Okay - thing is, as a professional FIGHTER (martial arts, boxing, etc) your training can basically make your hands/feet lethal weapons. THATS why they had to look into it. The fact the boxer DID NOT want to fight, AND APOLOGIZED showed he was defending, not being aggressive.
    Anyways. Thats my opinion as to WHY it had to be evaluated.

    The fact he did this in the theater for a movie for kids and hit a child that wasn't his? I hope they charge him to the full extent of the law.     I appreciate the professionalism of the fighter. His instincts made him go into fighting stance but tried to shake hands, as they do before a fight and the other still kept his hands up. Him being a professional fighter doesn’t mean that he can’t defend himself.
